~Prologue~
Absol stared into the endless night, dark gray clouds scattering the sky and heavy with the coming rain. Thunder rolled ahead in a loud boom and lightning flashed in the distance.
Worry pierced her heart. Where has my power gone? She wondered. It was as if they had never been, and disappeared into the dark clouds. I’m supposed to warn them of coming danger, but there’s nothing. Just a pit of endless darkness. A question in her mind sent a shiver down her spine.
Had Giratina returned?
Absol shook the thought away. She was supposed to be having fun. The festival was ongoing behind her, with music playing, happy Pokemon dancing, singing, and eating good food. Was she the only one who couldn’t enjoy this moment for even a second?
“Having trouble?” A voice sounded behind her. Absol swung her head back and saw a hooded figure staring back.
“Who are you?” Absol narrowed her eyes in suspicion. The fur along her neck and spine was beginning to bristle.
“Ah, stop,” the voice said. “I mean no harm. Put your fur on.”
“I don’t need your help,”
“Fine, your choice, not mine.”
The figure hobbled off and the gray mist devoured him. Whoever he was, Absol didn’t trust him for a single hair on her body.
A splashing noise came from the stretching lake near her. Absol tilted her head over the dock board and saw an egg flowing calmly through the water, the gentle waves lapping against its smooth surface. Absol crouched down and gripped the egg in her jaws. Blue circles dotted its shell, which was smooth as a flowing river against the stones. A surge of light surged through Absol’s mouth and into her chest.
She had to defend this egg, even at the cost of her own life. She didn’t know why, but this egg was important, and she wouldn’t let anyone take it from her.
The tower loomed above Absol, stretching wide and tall. With the egg clamped carefully in her jaws, she padded into the entrance to the tower.
Whispers echoed around her as she walked up staircase after staircase until she reached the top of the building. Absol looked over the ridge and onto the Festival below. Pokemon of every type and species sat at the same table, danced together, and sang songs with each other. She tried to ignore the only reason that she came here was to escape from it all.
“All lonely, so sad,”
Absol whipped her head around, but no one was there.
“Never will find a real friend, will you?”
The voice seemed to echo off all the walls, making her feel trapped.
“Just alone, every day, ignoring the invitations to join them.”
Absol’s fur raised along her spine.
“All so sad.” The cloaked figure from earlier seemed to emerge from the dark mist itself.
“What are you doing here?” Absol shivered. “Were you… Following me?”
“That is not how I would put it, but yes. I was following you.” A red glow illuminated from under the hood.
“Who are you?” Absol breathed.
“I can only tell you when I have your trust.”
Absol scoffed. “Good luck with that. What an amazing first impression.”
“Fine.” He said. He whipped off his hood. “My name is Darkrai. I’m a Loyal Servant of Giratina.”
