Shadow huffed as he got kicked in the side by Sonic for the fifth time that night.

Unfortunately, Shadow had to sleep in the middle of the living room floor along with Sonic and Manic.

“I know why Rouge let the girls have the guest room, but she could’ve let me sleep in her office.” Shadow thought.

Manic rolled over and threw his arm across Shadow, snuggling against him.

Shadow shoved Manic away.

Manic rolled back over, bumping his head against the leg of the coffee table. “Ow.” He muttered. He sat up rubbing his head. “What happened?”

Shadow got up. “You could’ve slept on the couch.”

“Sonic took the couch.” Manic said, rubbing his head.

Sonic woke up. “What? Why am I on the floor?”

Shadow headed to the kitchen, shaking his head.

Sonia was already up, making coffee. “G’morning, Shadow,”

Shadow got a cup of coffee out of the cabinet. “Morning.” He muttered.

“I’m sorry.” Sonia replied. “I should’ve warned you that Sonic runs in his sleep and Manic will snuggle against you unless you give him a pillow.”

“You should’ve.” Shadow said, sliding his cup closer to Sonia.

“I’ve gone camping with them before.” Sonia said, pouring coffee into hers and Shadow’s cups. “Thankfully, our new van has bunk beds.”

Sonic and Manic walked in.

Manic rubbed the back of his head. “Eh… sorry, Shadow.”

“That’s more on Rouge than you.” Sonia said. “I may have mentioned your sleep habits and she said she thought it was a good way to get you back for wrecking her car, Shadow.”

Shadow rolled his eyes.

Rouge and Maria joined them.

“I hope you all like pancakes.” Rouge said. “That's all I have. I haven’t been to the grocery store this week.”

“I could go for some chili dogs, but pancakes are good.” Sonic replied.

“I made coffee.” Sonia said. “Help yourself.”

Rouge got the pancake mix out of the cabinet and smirked. “How’d you sleep last night, Shadow?”

Shadow huffed. “I think you know already.”

Manic rubbed the knot on his head. “He shoved me into the coffee table.”

“Sorry, Manic.” Rouge said, laughing.

“It could’ve been worse.” Sonic said, getting a cup of coffee. “Manic drums in his sleep and watches videos on his phone if he can’t sleep. I’m pretty sure Shadow would punch him if that had happened.”

Shadow nodded.

Manic got a cup of coffee from Sonia. “Where are our phones anyway?”

“In the van.” Sonia said.

“Oh, great.” Manic replied. “I think we left the doors wide open. Our stuff was probably stolen.”

Sonic raced out.

“Where does he think he’s going?” Shadow asked.

Manic sipped his coffee. “To get our van, I guess.”

“If he gets caught again, he’s on his own.” Shadow said. “I’m not getting killed because he’s worried about his phone.”

“It’s all of our music equipment too.” Manic replied. “Our parents and uncle Chuck got them for us before they died.”

Sonia wiped her eyes. “The only pictures we have of them are on our phones too.”

Manic got up and left the room, taking shaky breaths.

“Manic?” Maria asked. “Are you okay?”

“He’ll be fine.” Sonia replied. “Mother died a few weeks ago from cancer and he happened to be in the room with her when it happened.”

“Where is your brother?” Shadow asked.

Sonic pulled the van back into the driveway.

“Perfect timing.” Rouge said.

Sonic parked the van and got out. “Good news: the doors were closed and locked and I had the keys in my hoodie pocket.” He replied. “It got towed immediately after we were kidnapped. I had to spend our grocery money to get it out though.”

Manic and Sonia hurried over to their van.

Shadow crossed his arms. “So you think no one is looking for you now?”

Sonic shrugged. “Maybe?”

“Shadow’s got a point, bro.” Manic said.

Shadow pointed to the airbrushed design on the side of the van. “And that logo on the van is an announcement of who you are.” He said. “Your pictures are all over the dark web as we speak.”

Rouge looked at Shadow. “Do you want to call the police?”

Shadow shook his head. “If Robotnik’s behind this, then he has connections to keep himself out of jail.”

Rouge bit her lip. “Good point.”

“Hide the van.” Shadow said. “We’ll head to Port Mobius. I’m sure there’s more victims. Then we’ll find Robotnik.”

“You can park your van in my garage, Sonic.” Rouge said. She walked back to the door. “Just let me get the remote.”
