Christmas eve

Sally and Sonic curled up together on the couch after they put the kids to bed. They sipped hot chocolate by their fireplace.
Sally motioned to a large box by the tree. "It's not much, but you'll love it," She said. "Merry Christmas."
Sonic got up and walked over to the present. He quickly ripped the wrapping paper off the box, revealing a manual treadmill that folded up.
"So you won't be trying to run in the house when it's raining or something." Sally said.
Sonic rushed over and hugged Sally. "Thanks, Sal. You're so awesome."
Sally grinned. "Aww, thanks, Sonic."
Sonic let her go and headed to the bedroom to get her gift.
Sally gave Sonic a puzzled look as he walked back into the room.
"You okay?" Sonic asked.
"I… I was gonna ask you the same thing." Sally replied. "I mean, it's the thought that counts."
Sonic sat down beside Sally. "Yeah, and I put a lot of thought and effort into this. A lot of effort." He said. He handed her the present. "Merry Christmas."
Sally nodded. "I'm sure you did." She replied. She opened the gift and smiled. "Oh, thank you!"
"I couldn't find the pencil thing or the keyboard, but I'll get it for you after Christmas." Sonic said.
"I love it." Sally replied. She hugged Sonic.
"It doesn't seem like it." Sonic said. "Did someone else get that for you?"
"No, not that I know of." Sally replied. "It's… like I said, I love it. I know I said 'don't make a big deal about it', but you usually do it anyway. It's odd that you actually paid attention to it."
Sonic sighed. "I know, I know, but now I have to get extra presents for them and the rest of the family." He said. "You're not royalty now either."
"I didn't expect you to buy two whole store's worth of stuff anymore." Sally replied. "It just came across as your bare minimum. Listen, I'm sorry I brought it up. That was stupid. You are so sweet."
Sally checked her watch. "We better head to bed ourselves. We have to get up really early tomorrow." She said, getting up. She hugged and kissed Sonic. "Thanks, baby, I appreciate it."
Sonic checked his watch. "I'll be there in a minute. I gotta check in on someone."
"Okay, be careful." Sally replied.
