Sonia woke up, wiping her forehead. “Ugh… boys?”
Sonic got up. “You’re finally up?” He asked. “We got up about an hour ago because it was so hot.”
Manic, not wearing his vest or his socks and shoes, walked over to them. “Breakfast is ready.”
Sonia kicked the covers off and got up. “I’m kinda glad it wasn’t just me.”
The triplets gathered at the folding table.
“Can you open a window?” Sonia asked.
“I opened all of them and the door.” Manic replied. “I made cereal, iced coffee, and strawberry smoothies. I didn’t want to make anything warm.”
“Thanks.” Sonic said, looking through his phone. “It’s a heatwave. Too bad we’re stuck in Tashistan for a while.”
Manic sipped his coffee. “Just our luck that we need groceries.”
“It gives us an excuse to buy ice cream.” Sonic replied.
“I actually want sorbet.” Sonia said.
“I want sorbet too.” Manic replied.
Sonic sighed. “I guess I’m outnumbered.”
**
Manic checked his watch. “He should’ve been home by now.” He said. “I hope he’s stuck in a long line at the market.”
Sonia nodded.
“What’s wrong?” Manic asked.
“We need to check on Sonic.” Sonia replied.
Manic got his hoverboard. “I’ll search for him.” He said. “You stay here and keep your phone close.”
“Be careful, Manic.” Sonia replied.
**
Manic, carrying Sonic, came in the open door. “Found him in the desert.” He said, laying Sonic on his bed. “Guess he got lost. He has heat exhaustion.”
Sonia took off Sonic’s socks, shoes, and gloves. “Get him a cool washcloth.”
Manic headed to the bathroom.
Sonic opened his eyes. “Huh? How’d I get back here?”
“Manic found you in the desert.” Sonia replied. “What happened? Did you get lost?”
“Yeah.” Sonic muttered.
Sonia gave Sonic a bottle of water as Manic came back with a washcloth.
Manic laid the washcloth on Sonic’s forehead. “Just rest, bro.”
Sonic nodded.
Sonia looked at Manic. “Can you sit with him?” She asked. “I’ll drive us to town.”
“Sure.” Manic replied.
“How are you feeling, bro?” Manic asked.
“Fine, I guess.” Sonic replied. “Thanks for saving me.”
Manic waved his hand. “Ah, don’t mention it.” He said. “You’ve done the same for me.”
**
Sonia parked the van under a canopy. “Okay, Manic, do you want to go to the market?”
Manic got up. “Sure, sis.” He said. “I’ll get you some ice cream, bro.”
“Thanks, Manic.” Sonic replied.
