The hedgehogs gathered by the fire that Sonic made in their fireplace.
"Maybe it won't be so bad." Sonic said.
The lights and appliances turned off.
"Great." Sonic muttered.
Sonia sighed. "Well, I'm glad we got that hand washer now."
Manic started hyperventilating.
Sonia looked at Manic and huffed. "Oh, and you called me spoiled after the hurricane." She said, walking out of the room. "I'm getting our sleeping bags."
Sonic slid closer to Manic. "You were homeless before we were reunited. Why does this bother you?"
"I've been in hibernation before, bro." Manic said. "Farrell said it took forever to get me out of it the last time we had a major snowstorm."
Sonic furrowed his brow. "So?"
Manic looked at Sonic incredulously. "So? We can die from it." He said. "We don't eat enough to get us safely through hibernation."
"We have the fire, the emergency heater, and the generator." Sonic replied.
Manic sighed. "But we can't run the last two all the time."
"We'll be fine." Sonic said, patting Manic on the shoulder.
Sonia brought in the sleeping bags and laid them on the floor. "I'm sorry, Manic. I wasn't thinking you might've had a bad experience the last time a snowstorm happened."
"It's cool, sis." Manic said.
Sonic crawled into his sleeping bag at the same time Manic crawled into it.
"What're you doing?" Sonic asked.
"Trying to keep warm in case we fall asleep and the fire goes out." Manic replied.
"We'll be fine." Sonic said. "Get out; I'm not snuggling with you."
Manic huffed. "Fine." He snapped. He got out and crawled into his sleeping bag. "Uh… Sonia?"
Sonia sighed. "The last time I shared a blanket with you, you fell asleep and drooled on me."
Manic laid down and pulled his sleeping bag over him.
**
Sonic yawned as he sat up.
Sonia sat up. "I was hoping the power would be on when I woke up."
Sonic looked at the fireplace. "I can't believe we let the fire go out."
"I'll get the fire started again." Sonia said, crawling over to the fireplace.
Sonic nudged Manic. "Bro?"
Manic didn't move or respond. He didn't even seem to be breathing.
Sonia looked over her shoulder, then stopped what she was doing.
Sonic shoved Manic all the way onto his back. "Bro?"
Manic still didn't react.
"He- he can't be dead." Sonia said, voice breaking.
"He's hibernating." Sonic replied. "He's mentioned he's done that before, so it's easier for him to enter it again."
Sonia turned on the emergency heater.
Sonic helped Manic sit up and held him. "We can't warm him up too quickly." He said. "He'll get blood clots."
Sonia turned the heater so it wasn't facing Manic directly. She slid closer to Manic and hugged him.
**
Manic finally started moving around.
"I must've dozed off." Manic said, slowly easing away from Sonic.
"No, you were in hibernation." Sonic replied.
Manic nodded tersely.
"Go ahead and yell at us for not letting you huddle against us for body heat." Sonic said.
"I would, but you did help me come out of it." Manic replied. "Thanks."
Sonia hugged Manic. "You're welcome."
"You're welcome, bro." Sonic said.
"Now, I'd like waffles for breakfast." Manic replied.
Sonic got up. "Of course. Any-"
The power came back on.
Sonic's communicator chimed.
"Oh, we gotta hurry up." Sonic said. "We need to help clean the streets."
Sonia and Manic got up.
"I'll get the waffle maker ready." Sonia said.
