AN: Yeah, Sonic was wrong for not saying anything to Sally to start with. As misguided as it was and halfway motivated by his own pride, Sonic really didn't want her to worry. By this point, Sally ...

Sonic laid on his bed as he scrolled through his phone. He groaned as he felt another muscle spasm in his arm.

Sally had probably sent him dozens, if not hundreds, of messages by text and social media.

She had even left a few voicemails and tried to video call him.

"Maybe I should call her." Sonic said.

The door swung open and Manic barged into the room, letting the door slam shut behind him.

Sonic set his phone down. "Don't you know how to knock?"

"You should've told Sally you were sick." Manic said, standing beside Sonic. "She loves you. It would hurt her less to know the truth than to never know why you suddenly stopped talking to her or seeing her."

Sonic slowly sat up. "I didn't want her to see me like this."

"She doesn't mind that, bro." Manic said, helping Sonic into his wheelchair. "She's here now. Will you let her see you?"

"Yeah." Sonic replied. "I was going to call her anyway."

Manic opened the door. He stepped aside as Sally led Tails into the room.

"Hey, little dude." Manic said, holding his hand out to high-five Tails. "Long time, no-"

"Sonic!" Tails exclaimed. He flew over to his honorary big brother with his two tails. "I missed you!"

Sonic grinned weakly and hugged Tails. "Missed you too, little bro."

Tails seemed absolutely oblivious to Sonic being in a wheelchair.

Sally leaned closer to Manic and whispered something to him.

Manic nodded.

Tails finally let go of Sonic and tilted his head to the side. "Were you in an accident?"

Sonic sighed. "I'm really sick, Tails."

"You'll get better though, right?" Tails asked. "It'll just take a while, is that it?"

"There's no cure for WHS." Sonic replied.

Tails shook his head in disbelief. "No, you're joking, right? Please say you're joking."

"I wish I was." Sonic said.

Sally and Manic walked over as Tails started crying.

"I'm sorry." Sonic said, reaching for Tails.

Tails hugged Sonic.

"Listen, Tails, we'll still have Sonic with us for a little while." Sally said, gently patting Tails on the back. "We just have to make the most of the time we have left with him and help him enjoy it."

Tails nodded.

After Tails had finally calmed down, he let Sonic go.

"Now, can you please hang out with Manic while I talk to Sonic?" Sally asked. "If he feels up to it, we'll go out for ice cream."

"Okay." Tails said.

Manic led Tails out of the room. "You'll love Uncle Chuck's stories, little dude."

"I'm sorry, Sal." Sonic said, hanging his head. "I just didn't want you to worry… which wasn't the best way to handle it. I… I want you to be happy and move on."

Sally hugged Sonic. "I'd be happier sticking by you while you're here."

Sonic hugged her back. "Thanks, Sal."

Sally finally let Sonic go. "So would you like to get ice cream with Tails?"

Sonic nodded. "But first… let me get something for you." He said, wheeling himself over to his bedside table.

Sally walked beside Sonic.

Sonic opened the drawer and pulled out a small box. "I wanted to give you this on your birthday, but I never know when I'll have a good day now and I was going to let you move on." He said, opening the box. "So I guess today's good enough. I'm sorry it's kind of a lame way to do this."

Sally gasped. "Is… is that a ring?"

"Will you marry me?" Sonic asked.

Sally hugged Sonic and kissed him. "Yes."

Sonic got the ring out of the box and slid the ring on her finger.
**
The siblings, Tails, and Sally gathered at an outdoor table at the ice cream shop.

Tails did a double take. "Where'd you get the ring, Sally?"

Sonia and Knuckles dropped their spoons into their bowls of ice cream.

Manic started coughing.

Sonic patted Manic on the back. "Are you okay, bro?"

Manic finally stopped coughing. "Yeah." He said, catching his breath. "Congrats."

Knuckles patted Sonic on the back. "Congratulations."

Sonia hugged Sally. "Congratulations, girl."

Tails furrowed his brow. "It's a pretty ring, but why are you all so happy?"

"Because Sal and I are getting married." Sonic said. He looked at Sally. "You wanna tell him now?"

"We're also adopting you, Tails." Sally said.

Tails grinned from ear to ear. "You're adopting me?!"

"Yep, right after mine and Sal's wedding." Sonic said, ruffling Tails' head fur. "You get to be the ring bearer."

"Who gets to be the best man?" Tails asked.

"Manic." Sonic replied. He happened to notice Sonia giving him a look. "Knuckles, you're a groomsman."

"Keep Manic in line, Knux." Sonia said, stirring her ice cream. "I'm sure Sally doesn't want a repeat of last time."

"I don't want a repeat of last time." Manic replied. "I'm sure that girl will mace me if I see her again."

"No, I explained it after I locked you in your room." Sonic said. "She understood, but she's not interested at all since she has a boyfriend and everything you said came out horribly wrong. Her boyfriend almost beat you up."

Manic stirred the last of his bubblegum ice cream. "I guess I had it coming."

Sonic's smart watch vibrated.

Sonia had texted Sonic to say Manic probably didn't care now because of the nurse.

Manic glanced at his smartwatch and laughed.

"What's so funny?" Sally asked.

Manic shook his head. "Sonia forgot to send a message directly to Sonic instead of our sibling group text."

Sonia sheepishly put her phone away.

"By the way, thanks for giving up your ticket to Jaws the musical, bro." Manic said.

"It's fine with me." Sonic replied. "I didn't want to see it."

"I don't blame you." Tails said, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "That movie was scary."

"What he's seeing is a parody thing." Sonic replied.

Sonia smirked. "So what if Jade wants to eat at the sushi place that Stella works at, Manic?"

"She doesn't like that place." Manic said. "Besides, that doesn't rank as the stupidest thing I've ever done."

"I'm afraid to ask." Sonia muttered under her breath.

"You remember when the Robotropolis zoo was broken into?" Manic asked.

"When someone spray painted graffiti on the walls and taught the parrots to curse out the guests?" Sonia asked.

Manic pushed his empty bowl aside. "That was me and a friend."

Sonic stuck his empty bowl into Manic's bowl. "I should've known it was you." He said. "When we did the fake tattoos that time, your designs were identical to the graffiti."

"I've never heard you curse before though, Manic." Sonia said. "It's just as well, royalty is supposed to be dignified."

"You can thank Farrell for that." Manic replied. "When he said what I did was a stupid crime and not to do it again, I thought he was including cursing in the list of crimes. I believed that until i was ten and just fell out of that habit."

Everyone at the table except Tails laughed.

Tails furrowed his brow. "It's not?"

Sally shook her head. "No, but back to what Sonia said about royalty."

Tails nodded.
*
Sonic was impressed that Sonia and Queen Aleena could arrange a somewhat fancy wedding in a week.

Then again, it shouldn't have come as a huge surprise. Sonia loved decorating and organizing parties to a somewhat obsessive degree.

Now that Robotnik was defeated, Sonia never turned down an opportunity to help plan a wedding or feast.

Knuckles, dressed in a tux, walked into the room. "Ready?"

"Almost." Manic said, adjusting Sonic's tie.

Sonic turned himself around. "As ready as I'll ever be."

Manic rolled Sonic out of one of the guest rooms on the first floor and into the ballroom.

Tails high fived Sonic as soon as he stopped beside him.

Sonic tapped his fingers on the armrest as he waited for Sally to walk down the aisle.

Manic leaned closer to Sonic. "If I'm that annoying when I drum on everything, I'm sorry." He whispered.

"Sorry." Sonic whispered back.

Finally, the first few notes of "Here comes the bride" started.

Sally was being led down the aisle by her dad, Mayor acorn of Mobotropolis.

Sonic stared in awe of Sally.

Sally wasn't the type to dress up, but she definitely made an exception today. Her long, pale blue dress looked like something out of a fairytale movie.

Sally finally reached Sonic and held his hands.

Sonic barely paid attention to what was being said, only doing enough listening to hear when to say "I do" and when to kiss Sally. He was still in disbelief she'd actually go through with the wedding, but he couldn't complain. He was now the happiest hedgehog on Mobius.

Well, the somewhat happiest hedgehog. It should go without saying that he missed being able to run.

Sally wheeled Sonic down the ramp in front of the courthouse.

Tails held onto the hand, his hand over Sally's. "Can we get ice cream?"

Sonic looked at Sally. "Do you want to stop for ice cream before we go?"

"Of course." Sally said. "Now after we get ice cream, you'll have to stay with Aunt Sonia and Uncle Manic for the week."

"Yes, Sa- I mean, Mom." Tails replied.

Sonic laughed. "Ah, you're gonna make us feel old."

Tails rubbed his arm. "I'm sorry."

"I was just messing with you, little bro." Sonic said. His arms spasmed.

Tails did a double take at Sonic. "Do you need to go to the doctor?"

"No, it's normal now." Sonic said. He noticed the van pull up.

Manic rolled the window down. "I thought I'd pick up Tails for you so you could be on your way."

"Thanks, bro." Sonic said. He hugged Tails. "Be good for them. Love you."

Sally hugged Tails. "Have fun, we'll see you later."

Tails ran over to the van and hopped in.

"Have fun." Manic said, waving. He drove away.

Sally pushed Sonic to the limo. "So where are we going again?"

"You'll see." Sonic replied.
