Sonic was now bedridden, he could barely move at all. He knew he didn't have much time left, but never said a word to his family.
Tails came into the room. "Dad?"
Sonic grinned weakly. "Hey, little bro." He said. He looked at Sally. "Sal, get him his gift."
Sally walked over and placed Sonic's medallion around Tails' neck.
"I want you to have it." Sonic said, trying his best to move his arm to hold Tails' hand. "I don't think it works anymore. At least, I couldn't get it to do anything not long after we defeated Robotnik."
Tails wiped a tear out of his eyes. "I love it." He replied. He hugged Sonic. "Thank you, Dad. I love you."
"I love you too, Tails." Sonic said. "Don't cry, little bro. You have to be strong for Mom."
Tails nodded.
"Do you need to nap, Sonic?" Sally asked.
"I'm a little tired." Sonic replied. He looked at Tails. "You look like you've been up all night."
Tails nodded. "I couldn't sleep."
Sonic gently slid over to let Tails curl up beside him.
Tails climbed in beside him and laid down beside him.

An hour later, Sally came into the room.
Sally nudged Tails. "Little bud?" She asked. "Time for lunch."
Tails climbed out of bed and headed out of the room.
Sally nudged Sonic. "Sonic, are you ready for some chili dogs?"
Sonic didn't make a sound, not even one snore.
"Sonic, wake up." Sally said, nudging Sonic. "You're freaking me out."
No answer.
Sally grabbed Sonic's shoulder and gently shook him. "Sonic?" She asked. "Sonic?! Please, wake up, baby!"
Still no answer and Sally realized Sonic was colder than he had normally been while he was sick.
"No, come on." Sally said, shaking Sonic's shoulder. "This can't be happening. Please be joking, Sonic."
Queen Aleena, Manic, and Sonia rushed in.
"You pocket dialed us." Manic said, breathing heavily.
Jade walked in the room with Tails.
Jade went over and checked Sonic for a pulse. "He's gone."
Manic started crying.
Sally picked up Tails and held him as they both started crying.
Queen Aleena led Sonia and Manic out of the room and into Manic's room.
Jade called an ambulance on her cell phone.

Sally buttoned up the black dress she borrowed from Jade.
"Mom?" Tails asked as he knocked on the door. "Are you ready to go?"
"As ready as I'll ever be." Sally replied.
Sally came out of the room.
Manic, wearing a black polo, stood in the hallway. "I keep thinking he'll run in the door."
Sally nodded. "I know, I do."
She replied. She knelt down in front of Tails and wiped his eyes with a tissue.

The family could barely look at Sonic, laying in his coffin.
It finally ended the notion that they were simply dreaming the whole ordeal.
Knuckles hugged Sonia as she cried.
Jade held Manic's hand as he tried to keep his composure.
The large church they held the funeral in was filled with Mobians who had come from all over the planet to pay their respects to their hero. There were so many, most of the attendees had to stand.
Tails looked around. "Wow I didn't know so many cared about him." He whispered to Sally.
"Neither did I." Sally whispered back. "I always knew he was special."

Manic, Cyrus, Uncle Chuck, Knuckles, and Trevor were picked as Sonic's pallbearers. Sonia had stepped in to help since she was strong and Uncle Chuck had a hard time with his part.
Tails simply flew alongside them since he wasn't strong enough to help.
They arrived at the grave site and all gently laid roses on Sonic's coffin.
The Royal family were the last to leave.
