Sonia set her phone on the kitchen table. “Shadow’s on his way with dinner,” She said. “He might beat Manic home if there’s traffic.”
Sonic and Sally got the plates and cups out of the cabinet.
“So we’re finally meeting Manic’s new girlfriend?” Sonic asked. “How’d they meet again?”
Sonia took some of the dishes from Sonic. “They’re coworkers.”
“Great, another edgelord to deal with.” Sonic said, setting out the plates and cups.
“Stop calling Shadow that.” Sonia replied. She set out the rest of the plates and cups. “He’s a nice guy and treats me well. As long as she’s good to Manic, I’m happy for him.”
“I guess I’d be happy for him too.” Sonic said.
Sally hugged Sonic. “That’s very mature of you, hon.”
Shadow came in. “Manic and what’s her name just pulled up.” He said, sitting the bags down.
Sonia kissed Shadow. “Thanks, sweetie.”
Sonic smirked. “Sweetie?”
Shadow glared at Sonic. “You don’t have some sort of immunity from getting your butt kicked just because I’m married to your sister.”
“Knock it off, boys.” Sonia said, getting the sushi onto the plates.
Sally helped Sonia set out the food.
The front door opened and closed.
“We’re here.” Manic called.
“We’re in the kitchen.” Sonia called.
Manic and Surge walked in.
“Oh, you’ve gotta be kidding.” Sonic muttered.
Manic nudged his girlfriend forward. “This is Surge.” He said. “Surge, this is my brother Sonic and sister Sonia. Sonic’s wife Sally. You already know Shads.”
Surge smirked. “Hey, I didn’t know Manic was your bro, Sonic.”
“Her?” Sonic asked. “Seriously, bro? I had her arrested twice.”
“She’s trying to make a fresh start.” Manic replied.
“Got a new job and everything.” Surge said.
“You had to know he was my brother.” Sonic said. “You‘re only dating him to get back at me.”
“Appearance wise, she’s his type, Sonic.” Sonia said.
Shadow nodded.
Sonic looked at Shadow. “Wait, you know them and you know about all the junk she’s done.” He said. “Did you put her up to this?”
“No, he was already flirting with her when I went in the store, so I decided to let it happen.” Shadow replied. “Maybe if you kept your mouth shut about me dating Sonia, I would’ve stepped in.”
“I didn’t know he was your brother, so getting back at you is like a bonus, Sonic.” Surge said, smirking. “Your siblings are dating your enemies. It’s kinda funny, actually.”
“Shadow is not his enemy.” Sonia replied.
Sonic shook his head. “Oh, no, he became my enemy after he started dating you.”
“And I’m happier than I have ever been in a long while.” Shadow replied.
“Can we try to have a nice dinner?” Sonia asked.
“Please try to get along with my bro, Surge.” Manic said, putting his arms around Surge’s waist. He kissed her. “For me; please?”
Sonic gagged.
Sally shook her head. “Grow up, Sonic.” She muttered under her breath.
Sonia elbowed Sonic. “Behave.” She whispered.
“You’re lucky you’re cute, Manic.” Surge replied. “Okay, let’s eat. I’m starving.”

Sonic picked at his beef stir fry while glaring at Surge.
“So you two met at Hot Topic?” Sonia asked.
“Yeah.” Manic replied. “We started talking, went to lunch together, and that’s it.”
Sonic shook his head.
“You’re not even trying, bro.” Manic said.
“Sonic, you promised.” Sonia said.
“I did not.” Sonic replied.
“You agreed you’d let us have a nice dinner.” Sally said.
“Aren’t any of you afraid she’ll drag him back into his kleptomania habits?” Sonic asked.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, bro.” Manic replied. “Actually, we’re both doing well in counseling.”
“See?” Sonia asked. “You have nothing to worry about.”
“That’s a valid concern though.” Sally said.
Shadow nodded.
Manic sighed. “C’mon, Sonic.” He said. “Are you gonna treat her like this if I marry her?”
Sonic spit his drink out and started coughing.
“We didn’t say we’re getting married right now.” Manic said.
“I hope not.” Sonic replied. He slumped in his seat. “Ugh… I bet your kids would be juvenile delinquents.”
Sally and Sonia gave Sonic dirty looks.
“I don’t want kids.” Surge said.
Manic winced. “Uh….”
Surge looked at Manic. “You want kids?”
“Yeah, one day.” Manic replied.
Sonic smirked. “So that’ll be a problem, huh?”
“It’s too early to be thinking about that, bro.” Manic replied.
Surge nodded. “Nice try though.”
“Anyway, maybe we should all go on a road trip together.” Manic said, sliding his empty plate aside. “It’ll give everyone a chance to bond.”
“A road trip?” Sonic asked.
Manic grinned. “It’ll be awesome.” He replied. “We’ll take the van, go to Lake Valley on the weekend. It’ll be so much fun.”
“Not if you’re an introvert.” Shadow muttered.
“Well, you’re not obligated to go.” Manic replied.
“I want to go on the trip, Shadow.” Sonia said.
“You want to spend a weekend in the van with your brothers again?” Shadow asked. “Remember the trip to Midwest Mobius?”
“It doesn’t sound pleasant when you word it that way.” Sonia replied. “Maybe it won’t be so bad this time.”

That night, Sonic sat on the couch, watching tv as he waited for Manic to get back from taking Surge home.
Manic came in the door.
Sonic turned the tv off and turned to face Manic.
“I’m glad you’re up.” Manic said. “I’m not asking you to like her. I didn’t know she was that girl who used to work for Ro-butt-nik, but she’s changed.”
Sonic huffed. “I hope so.” He replied. “If anything happens to you, I’m fighting her.”
Manic stretched his arms. “Fair enough.” He said. “Just try harder to get along, ‘kay?”
“Fine, fine.” Sonic replied.
