Sonia sat down in the visiting room of the Mobotropolis prison.
Manic, wearing shackles and a prison uniform, was brought in. His messy spines were even messier and faded where he usually dyed the tips of his spines black.
Sonia sighed as Manic sat down across from her with a clear plastic window dividing the stall. They picked up the phones at the same time.
“I hope you get help this time, bro.” Sonia said.
Manic nodded. “I’m trying, sis.”
“So how are you?” Sonia asked.
“I’m getting counseling, taking college classes.” Manic replied. “I got a job in the commissary. I can’t wait to get out though.”
“Mother’s getting you a little guest house set up behind ours.” Sonia said. “So you won’t have to go inside our home. She said you can do odd jobs around the house until you can find work. Tails thinks he’s found some careers you could do and will talk about them with you whenever he gets to visit. ”
Manic smiled weakly. “I’d like that.” He replied. “It’ll be another two years before I get out, so no rush.”
Sonia noticed Shadow. “It looks like visiting time’s over,” She said. “Love you, bro.”
“Love you too, sis.” Manic replied. “See you later.”
Manic and Sonia hung up the phones and got up at the same time.
Sonia walked over to Shadow.
Shadow walked Sonia out. “He could get out a year earlier with good behavior.” He replied. “He’ll only be in his early twenties when he gets out. At least he’s alive and getting himself on the right track.”
“I know.” Sonia replied. Sonia looked at her watch as it vibrated. “Oh, that’s Mindy. Looks like someone hacked into Eggman’s lair and got his robots back online; they're loose uptown.”
“I’ve got nothing better to do.” Shadow said, getting ready to run. “And I don’t need a super form to get there quickly.”
Shadow raced off.
Sonia scoffed and activated her new air shoes. “Neither do I.” She replied. She ran after Shadow.
