“Where do you think he went?” Sonia asked.
“The factory.” Manic replied. “He’s gonna throw himself into the vat of molten steel like in Terminator 2.”
Aleena answered her phone as Sonia drove them back to Mobotropolis. “Sorry we can’t have a proper family call, but we have a problem.”
Manic leaned closer to Aleena.
“What do you mean?” Brenden asked. “Are the kids okay?”
“Sonia and Manic are.” Aleena replied. “Sonic was roboticized, but he still had his personality, though it’s wavering. He’s headed to the factory in Mobotropolis to self-terminate while he’s still somewhat himself.”
“On my way.” Brenden said. He hung up.
“Ah, I really wanted to speak to Dad.” Manic said.
“You’ll get your chance.” Aleena said, ruffling Manic’s spines.

Sonic made it to the factory… or at least he thought it was. “This looks like Robotnik’s fortress.”
“That’s because it is.” Robotnik said. He stepped out of the shadows.
All of the doors locked.
“This was all part of my plan.” Robotnik said. “I suspected you’d try this, so I downloaded the coordinates here and labeled them as the factory to lead you to your downfall.”
“Whatever you think you can make me do, think again.” Sonic replied. “I won’t do it.”
Robotnik pressed a button on his gauntlet.
Sonic screamed as the electrical current coursed through him. He fought the commands Robotnik was trying to download into his consciousness.
“Oh, but you will have no choice.” Robotnik said, giving Sonic a sinister grin. “Your siblings and parents will walk directly into the trap I set. They couldn’t bring themselves to kill you, giving you a chance to kill them. We’ll reset your name while we’re at it.”
Robotnik typed a new name into Sonic’s roboticized brain via his gauntlet.
Sonic shut down.
Robotnik stopped shocking Sonic. “Metal?”
Sonic’s eyes lit up red instead of the green they had been. “Yes, Dr. Robotnik?”
Robotnik chuckled. “Excellent.”
