Meeting Manic and Sonic (from an alternate universe) inspires Sonia to track down her missing mother.
0Unrated
Sonia was up early this Saturday morning, typing on her tablet and drinking a cup of coffee in the living room of the small house she shared with Sonic and Manic.
Manic yawned as he walked into the living room early. He combed his spines out with his hand.
“Morning, Manic.” Sonia said, glancing up at him. “I made coffee, help yourself.
“Morning.” Manic mumbled. “Thanks.”
Manic shuffled into the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with coffee in his favorite mug. “What’re you doing up so early, sis?” He asked. He sat down beside Sonia.
Sonia set her tablet on the coffee table. “Well, I was adopted.” She replied. “I had accepted it and hadn’t ever seriously thought about finding my parents until now. So I’m looking for my mother at the moment.”
Manic sipped his coffee. “That’s awesome.”
“What happened to your mother?” Sonia asked.
“My parents died when I was two.” Manic replied. “They were killed in battle. So our uncle Chuck raised me and my siblings.”
“My adoptive parents were named Chuck and Rachel.” Sonia said. “They were my biological aunt and uncle from my dad’s side of the family.”
“My aunt’s name was Rachel.” Manic replied. “She died about a year after my parents died.”
“Huh.” Sonia said. “It’s weird that we have some similarities, but counterparts of you and Sonic don’t exist here.”
“Tell me about it.” Manic replied.
Sonic walked in and yawned. “What are you two doing up so early?”
“Talking about our families and helping Sonia look for her ma.” Manic replied.
Sonic sat down beside Sonia. “You have a Mom?” He asked. “Well, of course you do, but you know what I mean.”
Sonia nodded. “But I don’t remember her.” She replied. “She had given me to my aunt and uncle because she… I think they said she had some sort of breakdown. They wouldn’t tell me what exactly happened, but I guess she had depression. My dad died before I was born.”
“Why didn’t you ever look for her or ask questions?” Manic asked.
Sonia shrugged. “I guess I was content until recently.” She replied. “I suppose it sounds awful, but I hadn’t really thought about it as much before as I have recently.”
“It’s not the worst thing ever, sis.” Sonic said as he walked into the kitchen.
Sonia picked up her tablet and clicked the search button.
Manic pointed at the screen. “That looks like our ma.”
Sonia clicked on the profile, then gasped softly. “It’s her.”
Sonic came back into the room with a cup of coffee. “Find out where she lives and if she wants to meet you.”
“We can explain about ourselves later.” Manic said.
Sonia tapped on the private message button. “Good point, that’ll be easier to explain in person.”
