Manic decided to spend the rest of his time in the training gym hitting the punching bag. He had been trapped here for six years and desperately missed his family and freedom.
Yellow-green electricity sparked off of Manic’s body. His eyes glowed golden brown.
Shadow walked over. “Power down.”
Manic exhaled slowly. His eyes stopped glowing as he dropped his arms. “Why do we care if we shut off the power here?”
“I’ve been thinking about something.” Shadow said.
Manic leaned against the wall. “What’s that?”
“We can escape.” Shadow whispered. “We all have enough power to do so.”
“I’m in.” Manic said in a low tone.
“I’m still working on a plan.” Shadow whispered. “Start thinking of something to add and get Surge to help.”
Manic nodded.
“Why’d they put her in your cell anyway?” Shadow asked.
Manic shrugged. “Dunno, but I’m not complaining.” He said. “Gets lonely in there.”
Shadow leaned against the wall. “This place has been my own personal hell since Maria died.”
Manic bit his lip. “Sometimes, I wonder if this is actually hell.”
Shadow nodded. “Wouldn’t surprise me.”

Manic and Surge sat on the floor of their cell that night, staring out the tiny window neither of them could reach.
Only a glimpse of the night sky and some stars were visible.
“I loved sitting on my window seat with the window open at night.” Manic said. He wiped tears out of his eyes. “I’d fall asleep there sometimes. Sonic would get up and cover me with a blanket and get me a pillow when I did fall asleep there.”
“I liked walks at night.” Surge replied. “Little stuff like that is all I remember of my past.”
Manic nodded.
Surge laughed bitterly. “I guess that's why I got kidnapped,” She said. “Alone, no family. I was a perfect target.”
Manic put his arm around Surge. “Hey, don’t blame yourself.” He said. “I was kidnapped in broad daylight outside a gelato shop. Ma let me ride my skateboard there while my sister was at piano practice and my bro was running in the park. They have to be going out of their minds worrying about me.”
Surge snuggled against Manic. “I don’t even know where I’ll go if we escape.” She whispered.
“With me.” Manic whispered back. “I’m not leaving without you.”
