A coup forces the royal hedgehog family to separate. The royal triplets finally reunite years later to take down Robotnik once and for all.

Aleena hummed softly as she gently rocked the makeshift cradle she had laid her three month old triplets in.
Her husband Brenden, a dark teal hedgehog, ran in and slammed the door shut.
Brenden bolted the door shut as the babies started crying.
Aleena gently stroked the triplets’ spines. “There, there.” She said softly. “It’s okay, we’re here.”
Brenden walked over and sat down.
“What happened?” Aleena asked.
Brenden looked at the door. “I think I evaded the Swatbots, but we should keep moving.”
The triplets finally settled down.
Aleena sighed. “That’s not as easy as you make it sound.”
“I never said it was easy.” Brenden said, crossing his arms. “It’s your uncle who made that stupid roboticizer in the first place.”
Aleena huffed. “You were the one who made Robotnik an ambassador and made the policies our people hated.”
“Ugh, don’t remind me.” Brenden said, shaking his head.
Aleena exhaled slowly. “This is getting us nowhere.”
Brenden nodded.
“What do we do?” Aleena asked. “How are we gonna live on the run with triplets?”
“I hate to say it, but we can’t take them, Aleena.” Brenden replied. “We can’t stay together either; Robotnik will expect that. Our best hope is to throw him off, especially for the kids. No one knows what they look like except our guards and servants, but they're roboticized now. Their Mobian memories won’t be accessible now and it doesn’t seem like Robotnik ever asked about them.”
Aleena sighed. “You think it’s for the best to separate?”
“I don’t like it either, but we have no choice.” Brenden said.
Aleena looked at the babies. “It’s only until you’re a little older.”
Brenden ruffled Manic’s spines. “You’ll at least get to be with your mom again.” He said. “I’m gonna do as much as I can to serve in the resistance. I let this happen, I need to make things right.”
Manic chirped.

Aleena unwrapped three of the royal medallions and stuffed one in each of the babies’ onesies. She sat down at the table to write letters to the triplets’ new foster families. “So where are we sending them?”
“We can send Sonic to uncle Chuck.” Brenden said. “Sonia to Lady Windermere. Manic… what about Bernie and Estella, our merchants? Unless you think they’ll be safer somewhere else.”
“No, that’s fine.” Aleena replied. She looked at her sleeping triplets. “Oh, I’ll miss you three.”
Brenden stroked the babies’ spines. “I’m sorry it has to be this way, little ones.”
Aleena finished writing the first note and folded it over their family picture. “Why didn’t Uncle Chuck burn the files?”
“He said he tried.” Brenden said. “His computer was hacked and the papers were stolen out of his office.”
Aleena got another sheet of paper. “We told him trying to play God was a horrible idea.”
“I think he realizes that now.” Brenden replied. “Robotnik would’ve thrown a coup anyway. If it wasn’t the robotization program, it would’ve been firing squads or something else.”
Aleena sighed. “I suppose you’re right.”
Aleena and Brenden knocked on the door of Uncle Chuck’s home.
A couple of minutes later, the door opened.
“I’m so glad to see you all are alive.” Uncle Chuck said. He stepped aside to let Aleena and Brenden in. “What are you all doing here at this hour?”
Aleena and Brenden walked in.
“This is a lot to explain.” Aleena replied.
Uncle Chuck closed the door behind them. “I’ve got time.”

Two hours later
Aleena stepped inside the doorway of Windermere manor. “The note in her carrier explains everything.” She said, handing Sonia’s carrier to Lady Windermere. “I’m sorry, but I can’t stay long. I have to go.”
Lady Windermere nodded. “I understand.” She replied. “Stay safe, Aleena. Sonia will be safe with me.”
Aleena got on her motorcycle and left for Velcronia.

Meanwhile
Brenden stood on the doorstep of the home of Bernie and Estella’s home and rang the doorbell.
“Coming!” Estella called.
Brenden heard the whirring of Swatbot motors and looked behind him.
Swatbots were in an alley. They hadn’t spotted him, but it was only a matter of time since they were heading his way.
Brenden set Manic’s basket on the doorstep and ran away, drawing the Swatbots’ attention away from the house.
A dark figure ran out of a hiding place near the house and grabbed Manic’s basket. He ran off into the night again.
The door opened and Estella stepped out of her home. She looked around, then sighed exasperatedly. “Dumb kids.” She muttered as she stepped back inside. She closed the door behind her.
Five minutes later, Brenden came back to the house and saw that Manic’s basket was gone. “Good, he’s safe.” He said. He ran back to the motorcycle Uncle Chuck had gotten him and left for Port Mobius.

Manic cried as he was bounced around in his little carrier. He flailed his little arms and kicked his little legs.
All he knew was his mom and dad weren't answering his cries and he couldn’t see, smell, or hear them. His siblings weren’t beside him either.
For all he knew, something bad had happened to them.
Finally, the bouncing stopped.
Manic listened for a moment, hoping to see his mom and hear her soothing voice. His family had been doing an awful lot of bouncing him and his siblings around lately, so he hoped this was what was happening again.
“Oh, uh… Farrell?” A male voice asked. “I know what you said, but someone dumped the brat out. Someone will pay good money for the kid.”
“I don’t care about the money.” Farrell yelled. “The-”
Manic started screaming again in a desperate attempt to get his mom and dad’s attention.
Finally a muffled gunshot got little Manic’s attention. He stopped crying and looked around, wide eyed.
“Take care of that.” Farrell replied.
“Yes, sir.” Another male voice said before running away.
A male bug like Mobian picked up little Manic’s basket.
Manic huffed and whimpered as he curled into a ball. He assumed it was Farrell, and that this guy had saved him, but he was still afraid of the stranger.
“It’s okay, little guy.” Farrell said, carrying the basket to a nearby shack. “We’ll find your Ma, okay? Until then, you’ll be safe with me.”
Manic uncurled and smiled. This guy said he’d help him find his mom and that was enough to soothe him.
Her husband Brenden, a dark teal hedgehog, ran in and slammed the door shut.
