“What do you mean he’s missing?!” Aleena shrieked.
“I mean, they didn’t take him in.” Uncle Chuck said, moving the phone from one ear to the other. He rocked Sonic’s crib with his free hand. “I’m still looking for him. Farrell doesn’t allow trafficking or illegal adoptions and there’s no news of any infant deaths, so Robotnik hasn’t gotten him.”
Aleena drew a shaky breath. “I won’t feel better until you can confirm he’s safe.”
“I’ll let you know as soon as I find him.” Uncle Chuck said.
“I’ll get in contact with Brenden and we’ll start looking for him too.” Aleena replied.

Aleena called Brenden on the resistance video phone as soon as she got off the phone with Uncle Chuck.
Brenden finally answered. “Hey, my love.” He said, smiling weakly. “What’s wrong?”
Aleena burst into tears. “Manic is missing.”
“What?” Brenden asked. “He’s missing?”
“Yes, Chuck said that he was told that he went missing and Estella never saw anything when she answered.” Aleena replied.
“I’m so sorry.” Brenden said, wiping away tears. “I’ll have someone look for him.”
Aleena continued sobbing.
“I know, I’m sorry.” Brenden said. “This won’t be like last time, I promise.”
Aleena nodded.
“I’m sorry, I gotta go.” Brenden said. “I’ll try to see you next week.”
Aleena nodded. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” Brenden said.
The transmission shut off.
Aleena laid on her bed, sobbing into her pillow. She had lost a few babies before and was elated when she was finally able to deliver healthy triplets.
She would’ve kept her babies with her and stayed with someone if she knew this was going to happen.
She didn’t blame her husband. He was only doing what he thought was best and she agreed.
She only wished she had thought of staying with them in secret sooner.

Brenden had given himself a few minutes to cry for his missing son before cleaning himself up and heading out for his mission. He had texted his personal guard Argus to ask him to do some digging to see if he could find Manic.
He’d do it himself, but he had a squad to lead. He had to fix his mistakes for his children’s sake.
Brenden grabbed his backpack and shoulder holster and walked out to the common area.
Argus stepped over to Brenden. “About what you asked.” He said. “Apparently someone tried to sell a baby at the Mobotropolis black market the night you dropped off Manic.” Argus said. “Farrell saved the kid. Not sure if it’s Manic, but the odds are it’s him.”
“I hope so.” Brenden replied. “Say what you want about Farrell, but don't allow kids to be harmed.”
Argus nodded. “Are you ready to go?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” Brenden replied.

Farrell had finally found the letter and medallion that Manic had with him.
The family picture mentioned in the letter was nowhere to be seen.
Farrell reasoned the picture had either fallen out or Aleena had to hurry or was exhausted and forgot to add the family picture. Not that he exactly cared to have the picture, but it was there for Manic to have and probably another way to confirm that this baby was indeed related to the ousted king and queen, who hadn’t announced what their children looked like or that they had triplets because they weren’t sure Aleena wouldn’t have another miscarriage.
Farrell hated to hold onto Manic, given that situation, but he couldn’t exactly announce to anyone in the Thieves’ Guild or the resistance that he had one of Brenden and Aleena’s children.
The reward for members of the royal family was too great for anyone with low morals in need of money and/or desperate to save themselves from roboticization to pass up. Besides, Farrell never fully trusted anyone.
So unless he spotted Brenden and Aleena himself, he had to take care of little Manic.
He wouldn’t admit to anyone for various reasons, but the little guy was growing on him.
Manic was easy going, hardly ever cried though he did seem to look around for his family occasionally. He was still very used to snuggling with his siblings at that age and clearly missed his siblings, mostly his brother as the letter stated that Manic and Sonic were inseparable.
Farrell sighed as Manic crawled around his little basket and whimpered. “I know, little guy, maybe they’ll come back to Robotropolis to look for you.” He said, rubbing Manic’s spines. “I can’t exactly put you in danger by asking around.”
Manic fell asleep.
Farrell used this opportunity to get some work done. Thankfully, since he was the leader of the Thieves’ Guild, he didn’t have to go out unless he absolutely had to.
