Surge groaned. “Huh… what?” She asked. She sat up on the black leather couch. “Where am I?”

She looked at the gray and black metal walls, floor, and coffee table. “Is this my house?”

A large television was mounted on the wall across from her.

“Oh, good, you’re alive.” Dr. Eggman said, seemingly teleporting into the room.

Or he had been standing there the whole time and Surge just noticed him.

“Ugh. It’s you.” Surge muttered. She got up. “What do you want? Why did you bring me here or is this my house?”

“Well, I have a list.” Dr. Eggman said. “Oh, it’s my house, by the way.”

Forget it.” Surge said, getting up. She tried to walk past Dr. Eggman, but walked right through him. “Huh?”

A metal door opened.

Dr. Eggman walked in the room as the other Eggman disappeared. “Like my VR avatar projection?” He asked. “I can see what you see through the optics in the cyborganic parts connected to your eyes and brain. I can project my avatar through them too.”

“When did I get cyborganics?” Surge asked.

“After I raided the lab of that quack doctor you and that fennec boy worked for.” Dr. Eggman replied. “I saved you two and brought you here. Sorry about your injuries, I hope you appreciate the fact I saved your life with my fine cyborganic technology that you’ll have to pay for by working for me.”

“Did I need cyborganics?” Surge asked. “Couldn’t you give me normal prosthetics?”

“No, would you prefer to die or have cyborganics?” Dr. Eggman questioned.

“Fine, what do you need?” Surge asked.

Surge walked into a conference room that looked almost identical to the living room except for the larger table and leather computer chairs. She sat down beside an aqua fennec boy.

The fennec smiled. “Hi, I’m Kit.”

Surge leaned on the table. “Nice to meet you; I’m Surge.”

Dr. Eggman started up a PowerPoint presentation on a screen behind him.

“My enemy is Sonic the hedgehog.” Dr. Eggman, pointing to the picture of Sonic on the monitor. He flips to the next side. “This is his best friend Tails, that fox is almost as smart as me.”

“Okay.” Surge and Kit replied.

“So, Kit, I need you to befriend Tails and talk with him about his tech.” Dr. Eggman said. “Get him to show you blueprints, talk about his projects. Your cochlear and optic implants will record everything, you won’t have to do anything but act like his new best friend.”

“Sounds easy enough.” Kit replied.

Dr. Eggman flipped to another slide of a green hedgehog with long spines. “Surge, this is Sonic’s brother Manic.” He said. “I would make you become Sonic’s girlfriend but he’s already dating this chipmunk girl and this other hedgehog girl is pretty jealous. It’s a whole ordeal. Long story. So I need you to start dating Manic to get close to Sonic. They’re pretty close, you’ll see Sonic a lot.”

Surge shrugged. “Sounds easy.” She replied. “But why are we doing this?”

“Because I want to rule the world.” Dr. Eggman said. “Play your cards right and you two will rule alongside me. By that I mean the towns I don’t want. You can rule those with little oversight.”

“Deal.” Surge and Kit replied.

“Okay, we’ll discuss how we’ll set up the meeting.” Dr. Eggman said.

An alarm on Dr. Eggman’s gauntlet beeped.

“After lunch, of course.” Dr. Eggman said. “My chef bot will prepare whatever you want.”

Dr. Eggman led Surge and Kit out of the conference room.

Kit looked at Surge. “So… uh… w- what do you think of this, ma’am?” He whispered.

“Sounds like a sweet deal in spite of the circumstances.” Surge whispered back. “Don’t be so formal.”

“What’re you two whispering about?” Dr. Eggman asked.

“Just saying this is a pretty good deal.” Surge replied. “Surprised there’s no catch.”

“No, you two will be fine.” Dr. Eggman said. “I have the utmost confidence in your abilities and cyborganics.”

“I still think there’s something.” Surge thought. “I guess we’ll find out as soon as the sales pitch is over.”
