Surge sat in Dr. Eggman’s living room and called Manic on her phone.
Manic picked up the phone. “Hey, I’m glad you called.”
Surge started crying.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” Manic asked.
“Eggman… he caught me.” Surge sobbed. “Help me. He’s got Kit too.”
“On our way, Babe.” Manic replied. He hung up.
Surge dried her tears. “Alright.” She said, looking at Dr. Eggman. “You’re not killing Manic, right?”
“No, a deal’s a deal.” Dr. Eggman replied. He looked at Kit. “Alright, the robots will take care of things from here. You two relax in your rooms until you’re called. I want this to seem like a normal fight.”
Dr. Eggman chuckled as Surge and Kit walked out.
Surge glanced over her shoulder. “What’s his deal?” She thought. “He’s up to something.”
*
Surge sat on the couch in her room with her arms crossed. She propped her feet up on the coffee table. “Man, this is boring!” She groaned. “He’s letting his stupid bots do all the work.”
“We can watch the surveillance footage.” Kit replied.
“Good thinking.” Surge said, flipping the tv on with the nearby remote.
The feed showed a fight between Sonic, Manic, and Shadow fighting Metal Sonic.
Shadow quickly took out Metal Sonic.
“I told you Egghead!” Sonic yelled. “I’m not letting you make cyborgs without a fight.”
“Your brother’s girlfriend is a cyborg.” Dr. Eggman said. “How do you like that?”
“She’ll be dead as soon as I find her.” Sonic replied.
Manic shook his head. “Bro, she-”
“She’s not a Mobian, Manic!” Sonic yelled. “She’s trash.”
“We’d be doing the world a favor.” Shadow said, dusting his hands off.
Surge grit her teeth as she watched the footage.
Kit got up. “Surge?”
Surge got up. “C’mon, get your hydro pack, Drippy.” She said, motioning for Kit to follow her. “We got a hedgehog to obliterate.”
Kit started to walk by the TV, but he stopped to look at the security feed. “Uh, something’s not right.” He said, squinting. “It seems off.”
“Drippy?” Surge called. “Get your tail out here and help me.”
Kit hurried after Surge, grabbing his hydro pack on his way out. “Coming, ma’am, I mean Surge.”
Surge and Kit ran to the main lab.
Kit sprayed Shadow and Sonic with the water from the hydropack.
Sonic screamed.
Shadow pulled Sonic out of the line of fire. “Stop crying.”
Manic looked at Surge. “Babe?”
Kit aimed the cannons attached to his gloves at Manic. “Just stay put, you’re gonna be spared.”
“What?” Manic, Sonic, and Shadow asked.
“You’re behind this?” Sonic asked. “Surge, Kit, you don’t have to do this. We-”
“Oh, you don’t care about me.” Surge replied. “I heard you. You hate cyborgs.”
“I didn’t mention you.” Sonic said. “What are- Wait. You’re a-”
“It’s your fault I’m a cyborg!” Surge screamed. “He gave me these stupid parts to get to you!”
“Surge, babe, we can save you.” Manic said, holding his hands up defensively.
“Manic, she spied on us.” Sonic said.
Surge fired a blast of electricity at Sonic.
Kit fired a blast of water as Manic moved.
Manic dove in front of Sonic, taking the hit. He screamed as the electricity arced off his body.
Surge shut the rings off. “Manic!”
Sonic held his unconscious little brother. “Manic? Manic?!”
Surge ran over to Manic. “Babe, I’m sorry. He forced-”
Sonic ran away with Manic.
Kit flattened his ears against his head and started cowering. “S- sorry I… I messed up.”
Shadow charged after them.
Dr. Eggman immediately used his robots to pull Surge and Kit back and shut the door.
Shadow tried Chaos Control once, but couldn’t get through the door. “You gotta come out sometime.”
Dr. Eggman checked his security monitors. “He’s gone, go to your quarters.”
Surge held her arms.
“Oh, sorry about your boyfriend.” Dr. Eggman said. “Should’ve seen that coming. I’ll give you a hologram program if you want to go to his funeral.”
Surge glared at Eggman. She shook her head as she walked away.
*
Surge sat in her room, curled into a ball and crying softly.
“Eh, it wouldn’t have lasted.” Dr. Eggman said. “I can’t see you as the type to settle down and have kids.”
Surge uncurled and looked at Eggman. “That doesn’t make me feel better.”
Dr. Eggman looked over his shoulder. “Eh… I’ll let Kit talk to you.” He said, stepping aside as Kit walked over.
Kit waited for Eggman to shut the door and sat down. “Do… Do you love Manic?”
Surge nodded. “Yeah, I do.” She replied. “He grew on me. Never had any interest in relationships before him.”
Kit sighed. “Well… Eggman lied to us.” He said. “He made an ai video and played it on the monitors we were looking at. I noticed something was odd, but I didn’t get a good look at it until a few minutes ago.”
Kit pulled out his tablet and played the real video, then the ai video. “See the mistakes?” He asked. “It took me a few minutes to watch, though Manic’s spines being backwards was what got my attention.”
Surge grit her teeth. “That-”
Surge’s phone chimed.
Surge picked up her phone and smiled. “Manic, he’s alive!”
Kit smiled weakly. “Glad he’s alive.”
Surge called Manic.
“I’m surprised you called.” Manic said.
“I’m surprised you’re alive.” Surge replied. “For real, I’m glad, Manic.”
“What happened?” Manic asked.
“He forced Kit and I into spying on you all.” Surge replied. “He made a fake surveillance of you, Shadow, and Sonic to make us fight you.”
“Can you come to Tails’ workshop and show us the footage?” Manic asked.
Kit nodded.
“Yeah, we’ll be there soon.” Surge said. She hung up the phone.
“I shut off the surveillance footage and the kill switch, but Tails will have to remove the chip that acts as the kill switch.” Kit said.
Surge got up and dragged Kit out of the lab.
Manic picked up the phone. “Hey, I’m glad you called.”
Surge started crying.
