Surge sat on the couch, watching the Sarah Connor chronicles since Manic had recommended it.

Kit walked into the living room and sat down beside Surge. He smiled at Surge and handed her a small flower he had obviously pulled out of the ground at the park.

“Thanks, I guess.” Surge said, pausing the video.

“Y- you’re welcome.” Kit replied.

“I guess I gotta let this poor kid down easy.” Surge thought. “He’s a sweet kid.”

“Great work out there, Kit, Surge.” Dr. Eggman said, walking into the room. “I think we can get this scheme moving quicker than I planned. Won’t that be nice?”

“Oh, yeah, it’ll be nice to be rid of you.” Surge replied.

“Believe me, the feeling is mutual.” Dr. Eggman said.

“Sir?” Kit asked. “Why us?”

“Why, indeed.” Dr. Eggman replied. “Well, Sonic and his idiot friends smash my robots, you two can get closer to them than I or the robots can.”

Surge raised an eyebrow. “Hmm… what did happen when he saved us?” She thought. “Did he even save us?”

“Okay, well, I’m going to soak in my hot tub.” Dr. Eggman said, getting up. “You two get some rest and then we’ll discuss battle plans after dinner.”

Dr. Eggman walked away.

Surge waited for Eggman to leave the room, then looked at Kit. “You up for some research while he’s busy?”

Kit nodded.

Kit and Surge sat in front of the main computer as Kit typed on the keyboard.

“Alright, Surge and Kit aren’t our real names.” Surge said. “Huh. That’s weird. There’s nothing on our real names and no records of our existence.”

Kit scrolled through the file. “Here’s the first log.”

“So we were in a lab owned by Dr. Starline, a former GUN scientist.” Surge said. “He rivaled Dr. Ivo Robotnik? Who’s- oh, he’s Eggman. Ugh, he could’ve picked a better alias.”

Kit nodded. “Okay, so they were in an intense rivalry, it seems.” He said, scrolling down more. “So… Eggman blew up Starline’s lab. He was scouring the ruins for tech he could salvage and he found us. We were near death.”

Surge sighed. “Okay, he did the right thing for the wrong reasons after doing the wrong thing.” She replied. “So what? Why do we have to be roped into his demented scheme?”

Dr. Eggman walked up behind them.

“I dunno, ma’am.” Kit said.

“Do not call me that.” Surge snapped. “Do I look like some grandma who holds up the checkout line to yap about her day with no concern that people have places to be?”

Kit held his hands up defensively. “N- no, I’m… I’m sorry, Ma’am.”

Surge slammed her fist on the desk. “I swear if you call me that one more time, I’ll end you.”

“I’ll end you if you break my things.” Dr. Eggman said as Surge flinched and Kit leaped out of his chair.

Surge and Kit turned to face Dr. Eggman.

“Why’d you do any of this?” Surge asked. “Why would you blow up a lab and kill an innocent guy out of petty spite? I can be spiteful and even this is ridiculous to me.”

“Innocent.” Dr. Eggman scoffed. “Hardly. That quack kidnapped homeless and/or orphaned Mobians and experimented on them, something even I object to. I saved you in more than one sense.”

“Like you’re so much better.” Surge sneered. “You’re just as evil as he is. Yeah, you saved our lives, but only because you want lackeys to get close to Sonic.”

“What’s your point?” Dr. Eggman asked.

Surge clenched her fists, her rings sparking. “That is my whole point.”

Dr. Eggman held his hands up defensively. “Hey, easy, don’t blame me.” He said. “I wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t for Sonic.”

“So he’s born and it’s somehow his fault that I have cyborganics?” Surge asked.

“No, he interferes with my plans.” Dr. Eggman replied. “The cyborganics that saved your life? Sonic opposes that.”

“Well, you have done at least two forced roboticizations.” Surge asked. “You gave me this stuff without my permission and didn’t try to find a way to save me without implanting spy devices in me, so it seems like you would do that.”

“No, that’s propaganda that Sticks girl spread on Sonic’s behalf.” Dr. Eggman replied.

Surge and Kit exchanged glances then nodded.

“Let’s speed up the plans.” Surge said, punching her other hand.
