Manic and his family joined Sonic’s and Sonia’s families at Aleena’s house for Christmas.
Manic’s five year old twin boy and girl, Glitch and Cyber respectively, played with Sonic and Sally’s four year old twin boy and girl River and Lola.
Shadow and Sonia’s three year old daughter Maria quietly watched her cousins with her arms crossed.
Aleena sat on the floor beside Maria, brushing her black and pink spines.
Manic and Sonic sat beside each other eating a few of the Christmas cookies as Surge, Sally, and Sonia looked at Sally’s tablet as they tried to figure out if they really needed an app to play the board games Aleena had gotten the kids.
Shadow turned the TV channel to Die Hard.
Sonia looked up. “Shadow, it’s not a Christmas movie and the kids are here.”
Shadow motioned to the tv. “Edited for content.” He said. “It’s either this or I’m shooting the tv if I have to sit through another ten minutes of that awful kid’s show.”
“Fair enough.” Sonia muttered.
Manic and Sonic laughed.
Aleena got the kids to play the new beanbag toss game that Maria had gotten and wasn’t playing with.
“I barely remember when she used to play games with us.” Manic said. “Or make us Christmas cookies.”
Sonic nodded. “At least she’s a great grandma.”
Maria huffed as Cyber gently threw a beanbag at her.
“C’mon, Maria.” Cyber said. “Play with us.”
Maria grabbed the beanbag and threw it at Cyber’s head.
Cyber yelped.
Surge and Sonia looked up.
Shadow smirked.
Manic got up and moved to sit beside Cyber. “Ah, she didn’t hit you that hard.”
“She didn’t have to throw it at my head.” Cyber said, rubbing her head.
Sonia looked at Shadow. “Shadow, say something to your daughter.”
Shadow got up and picked Maria up. “Don’t aim for anyone’s head unless they’re bullying you.”
“Shadow.” Sonia scolded.
“As a last resort.” Shadow said.
Manic and Sonic laughed.
Sonia sighed.

Manic and his family were the last ones to leave Aleena’s house.
Surge was herding the kids to the SUV while
Manic was gathering their stuff. “Thanks, Ma.” He said. “You didn’t have to get us anything.”
“I know, but I wanted to.” Aleena replied.
Manic slid his backpack over his shoulder. “Thanks for spending so much time with my kids.” He said. “It means a lot to me.”
Aleena nodded. “I know I’ve said it before, but I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you while you were growing up.”
Manic hugged Aleena. “It’s alright, Ma. I forgive you.”
