Aleena throws a New Year’s Eve Party for her family. It goes as well as can be expected.

Sonic and Tails sat on the couch in Tails’ house, listening to an old tv show as the former checked his email and the latter put together an elaborate Lego airplane.
“Oh, man, I forgot about that.” Sonic muttered.
Tails glanced up. “What is it, Sonic?”
“Mom’s annual New Year’s party.” Sonic said. “I’ve had a lot to do this month and I really don’t feel like going to yet another party that I’m sure Eggman will ruin too. I just want to stay in and watch a movie until I fall asleep.”
“Why don’t you want to visit your mom?” Tails asked. “She’s great. I know your band has been put on indefinite hiatus, but I thought you got along with your siblings.”
“I’d only go for Mom.” Sonic replied. “This party is important to her.”
“Why?” Tails asked.
“Dad left the family right before New Year’s when I was three.” Sonic replied. “She was heartbroken, but was trying to make things easier for us. So she let us have a special day on a Saturday, which happened to be New Year’s Eve that year, and it became a tradition. It disappoints her if we have to miss it.”
Tails frowned. “Oh, man, I’m so sorry.”
“So anyway, Sonia married Shadow and that drove a wedge between us.” Sonic said. “Then Manic started dating Surge months ago and we haven’t spoken since.”
Tails bit his lip. “I kinda understand, Sonic.” He replied. “You don’t have to like Surge and Shadow, but you could at least try to be civil for your siblings’ sake. Shadow is a hero now and I heard Surge is trying to reform herself.”
Sonic sighed. “Thanks for making me feel guilty for thinking of telling Mom I’m sick and can’t go.” He said. “Will you at least come with me?”
Tails grinned. “Sure.”
“Oh, I hope Sal can come.” Sonic said. “Amy still hasn’t gotten over her obsession with me and Mom thinks it’s cute.”
Tails furrowed his brow. “She thinks Amy’s uncomfortable stalking and taking pictures of you in your shower is cute?”
“Mom doesn’t know about that.” Sonic said. “Anyway, it’s Friday at five and we have to stay overnight because Mom will freak out if we try to go home.”
“I didn’t think your mom liked alcohol.” Tails replied.
“She doesn’t, but she’s afraid a drunk driver will hit us.” Sonic said. “You know how overprotective Mom is.”
Tails furrowed his brow. “But I have the rings.”
Sonic hugged Tails. “Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome.” Tails said.
