Manic sat at his desk, glancing at one of his comic books he was using for reference while listening to a podcast and drawing on a sketchpad.

Sonic stepped into the room and grabbed his jacket. “Later, bro.”

Manic paused his video. “Where are you going?”

“A date.” Sonic said, putting on his jacket.

Manic narrowed his eyes. “You better not see the new Matrix movie without me.”

“Don’t worry.” Sonic said. “I won’t see it without you and I doubt Sonia would want to go see that anyway.”

Sonic left the room.

Manic unpaused the podcast and started drawing again.

Aleena stepped into the room. “Manic, sweetie, you didn’t want to go with them?”

“They’re going on dates.” Manic said, shutting off the podcast. “Sonia’s embarrassed to be seen with me anyway.”

Aleena sat down in Sonic’s computer chair. “She only says that stuff because she doesn’t want you to be bullied.”

“Shouldn’t she stand up for me instead of criticizing what I like?” Manic asked.

“That’s what I try to tell her.” Aleena replied. “Anyway, I know you didn’t want to third wheel, but you need to get out more”

Manic sighed. “I’ll be fine, Ma.”

Aleena got up. “Do you want to help with dinner?” She asked. “I’m making sushi; your favorite.”

Manic got up. “Sure.”

Manic heard the door open and got off the couch to see who it was. He paused the tv show he was watching and walked into the mudroom.

Sonic had run in. “Get your phone and wallet, bro.” He said. “They’re gonna see Matrix Resurrections.”

“What?” Manic asked. He checked his pockets. “I got my phone and wallet. Let’s-”

Aleena stepped in. “Sonic, what happened?”

“Just taking Manic to the movies, Mom.” Sonic asked.

“Okay, have fun.” Aleena replied.

Sonic and Manic arrived at the theater.

Sally was waiting for them in the lobby. “Shadow and Sonia bought tickets for themselves and went inside already.”

“That’s fine.” Sonic said. “We’ll sit by ourselves.”

A female lime green tenrec approached Manic as Sonic stood in line to buy the tickets. “Are you seeing the new Matrix movie too?” She asked. “I’d love to see it with you.”

“Sure.” Manic replied. He got his wallet out and pulled some money out. He handed the money to Sonic.

Sonic stepped up and ordered the tickets.

Manic smirked. “I’m Manic, what’s your name?”

The tenrec introduced herself as Surge.

Sonic caught up to Sally, Manic, and Surge at their seats and handed them their snacks before he sat down beside Sally.

Manic noticed Shadow and Sonia in the front row. “Ooh. I should tell Ma about this.” He said, pointing at them.

Sonic tossed popcorn at Shadow’s head. “Hey, stop kissing my sister.”

Surge, Sally, and Manic laughed.

Shadow turned around, then turned to Sonia and said a few words.

Sonia sighed as she reluctantly got up to follow Shadow over to Sonic and Manic.

Shadow looked at Manic. “I thought you didn’t want to see this.”

“I wanted to see it.” Manic replied.

“She said you didn’t want to see it or be a third wheel.” Shadow said.

Manic rolled his eyes.

“Oh, that garbage.” Shadow muttered.

“He’s not a third wheel now anyway.” Surge said, putting her arm around Manic.

Manic smirked.

“The movie’s about to start.” Sally said. “We can talk about this later.”

Everyone sat down in the row they were standing in.
