Sonic sat in the car, waiting for his siblings to get in the car. He blew the horn.

Finally, Sonia and Manic came out of the house.

Sonic sighed as he noticed Manic’s glare. “What did she say to you?”

Sonia and Manic got into the car.

Manic flopped back into the seat.

Sonic pulled the car out of the driveway.

As soon as they were inside the school, Sonic walked Manic into the bathroom.

“What happened?” Sonic asked.

“Sonia’s being a jerk, bro.” Manic replied. “Nothing new except to criticize Surge for her issues.”

“Issues?” Sonic asked.

“She’s in counseling for an abusive childhood.” Manic replied. “She and her bro are living in a shelter.”

“And Sonia is mocking her for it?” Sonic asked.

Manic nodded. “I can’t deal with another two years of her.”

“Relax, I have a plan.” Sonic said. “We’ll talk about it later.”

Sonic led Manic out of the bathroom.

Manic and Sonic walked around the used car lot after school.

“Why are we here?” Manic asked.

“We need something we can drive around my guitar and your drums and so we don’t have to ride with Princess Snob.” Sonic said. “It makes sense for us to buy something like that now while we have the money.”

“Fine with me.” Manic replied. He pointed at an old van. “How about this?”

“You gonna move into it and live down by the river, Manic Foley?” Sonic said, trying not to laugh. He burst out laughing.

Manic rolled his eyes. “Ha, ha. I might do that just to get away from Sonia.”

“Good point.” Sonic said. He looked in the window. “It’s got more than enough room. We’ll have to throw out that ugly couch.”

“We can hang out in there to get away from Sonia.” Manic replied. “Like a man cave.”

“We’re hedgehogs.” Sonic said.

Manic rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”

“Alright, we’ll talk to the salesman.” Sonic said. He led Manic toward the office.

“What was your plan to get away from her?” Manic asked.

“Move in with Unc if Mom allows it.” Sonic replied. “I got the go ahead from him, but not Mom.”

*

Manic parked his and Sonic’s new van in the driveway. He and Sonic got out of the van as Sonia and Aleena stepped out of the house.

“You bought a van?” Aleena asked. “Why?”

“Because we need something to haul our equipment when we get a gig.” Manic replied.

“And we can hang out there to get away from Princess Snob.” Sonic added.

Manic laughed.

“Maybe some space can help you three get along.” Aleena said, steepling her fingers. “You can keep it and hang out in the van as long as neither of you bring Sally and Surge back to this thing.”

“That’s fine, Ma; as long as you stop Sonia from taking Shadow to her room while you’re at work too.” Manic said, leaning against the van.

Sonic looked at Manic, who simply nodded.

“Sonia Louise Hedgehog.” Aleena scolded

“Thanks, Manic.” Sonia muttered.

“We’ll talk after dinner, Sonia.” Aleena said. “Come on, clean up so you can help me with dinner.”

Aleena shook her head, muttering under her breath, as she walked back to the house.

“Thanks, Ma.” Manic replied.

“Thanks.” Sonic said.

Sonia glared at her brothers, then followed Aleena.

Manic and Sonic fist bumped each other.

“Can’t believe you made that up just to get back at her.” Sonic said.

“I didn’t.” Manic replied. “You’re not observant, are you?”

Sonic sighed and shrugged.

Sonic and Manic headed inside.
