The teenagers, except Manic and Surge, stood by the door of the rec room.

Sonic seethed under his breath as he watched Manic and Surge being shocked by the discipline robots while Dr. Starline angrily fired off a message to Ivo with his communicator.

Shadow crossed his arms.

Tails tapped Sonic’s arm. “Can’t we do something?” He whispered.

“Have you finished the plan?” Sonic whispered back.

Tails shook his head. “Not yet.” He said. “But I’m close.”

Sonic nodded and gave Tails a quick thumbs-up.

Dr. Starline marched Manic and Surge over to the others, muttering under his breath. “You punks finally get separate rooms.” He said. “Girls in one, Boys in the other.”

Sonic glared at Manic.

Manic looked away. His spines and fur were slightly singed.

“Go back to your quarters.” Dr. Starline said, calling the robots over. “The rooms have been updated with signs.”

The teens followed the robots to their dorms.

Manic sat on the floor with his knees to his chest. He glared at the floor.

Sonic paced back and forth in front of Manic. “What the heck is wrong with you?” He asked. “You know good and well that was not allowed as yours and Surge’s reward.”

Manic sighed. “I’ve been punished enough, bro.” He said, plucking out one of his burned spines.

“We needed the girls as part of our escape plan and you messed it up.” Sonic replied.

“Technically, he made it harder.” Tails said. “It’s still possible to coordinate an escape with them.”

“But he’s making things harder than it has to be.” Shadow said.

Manic groaned. “Who are we kidding?” He asked. “It’s been fourteen years. We’re never leaving. No one cares enough to rescue us.”

“Yes, we are gonna escape.” Sonic replied. “I promise. I’m sure someone out there cares about us, but if not, at least we have each other.”

The door whooshed open.

Dr. Starline stood in the doorway. “Come on, Dr. Robotnik wants to read you all the riot act.”

“Yeah, tell him we’ll pass on the lecture.” Sonic replied. “We obeyed the rules. Manic and Surge are the idiots who need the refresher course.”

Manic glared at Sonic.

“It’s not an option.” Dr. Starline said, holding up his glove.

Sonic and Manic smirked as they mock waved.

“Why do you do that?” Shadow asked. “Is that thing broken?”

Dr. Starline called in the discipline bots. “Either you comply or face the consequences.”

Manic slowly got to his feet.

Sonic got ready to spin dash. “Cancel our invite or I’ll-”

“Knock it off, Sonic.” Kit said, tugging on Sonic’s arm. “You’re gonna make it worse on yourself.”

Sonic sighed. “Alright, doc.” He muttered.

The boys shuffled out of the room and met up with the girls in the hall.

Dr. Starline raised an eyebrow as he watched the teens follow the bots to the conference room. “Well, he’s a nervous type.” He said under his breath. “They might not be working together, but it’s best to keep an eye on this.”

-the next day-

The teens stood in line as they waited for their usual post breakfast vitamins and Chaos Energy injections.

Manic looked over at Dr. Starline. “I didn’t realize he was that short.”

“You’re a little taller now.” Tails said. “You hit your growth spurt.”

“All of us together are probably stronger than him now.” Shadow said in a low tone.

Manic nodded.

“Stick to the plan.” Sonic replied. “Tails is still working on codes and shutting down the robots to make things easier. Gotta save our strength to climb down this rock.”

Manic tried to push his way past the robot guards as soon as he reached the head of the line.

Sonic tried to grab Manic’s arm to pull him back into line.

“Didn’t you learn your lesson yesterday, Manic?” Dr. Starline questioned.

Manic stepped closer to Starline and looked down at the shorter platypus. “You gonna do something about it?”

Sonic looked at Manic, then eased over to Sally. “Should I step in?” He whispered.

“You think waving that stupid glove is gonna do something?” Manic asked.

A couple of robots stepped over and shocked Manic with their stun guns.

Manic took the attacks without a single scream. Instead he glared at Dr. Starline. He gasped and crumpled to the ground as soon as the blasts were over.

“Now, are you gonna comply or do you want to be forced into compliance?” Dr. Starline asked.

Surge helped Manic to his feet.

“I can make things worse for her if you keep this up, Manic.” Dr. Starline warned.

Manic grit his teeth.

“Manic, are you stupid?” Sonic snapped. “Don’t make it worse, bro.”

Manic exhaled slowly. “Alright, fine.” He muttered. He took his treatments and moved on to the training area.

Sonic got through the line as quickly as he could so he could catch up to Manic. He made it over to the treadmill before Manic could get on. He grabbed Manic’s arm and walked him to the bathroom. “What the heck’s gotten into you?”

Manic snorted. “You have to ask?”

“We’re gonna escape.” Sonic whispered. “Just stay off his radar. I know it’s hard, I did the same thing yesterday, but we have to keep it together.”

Manic rolled his eyes. “You still fight Shads.”

“So they don’t think we’re working together and split us guys up too.” Sonic whispered.

Manic nodded.

Dr. Starline sat down across from Ivo in the latter’s office.

Ivo looked up from upgrading a drone’s parts. “What is it this time?” He asked. “You caught another couple fooling around?”

Dr. Starline shook his head. “No, but that will probably happen again.”

“Make sure they’re well supervised by the bots.” Ivo said.

“They’re fighting me more so now.” Dr. Starline replied.

“Are you so incompetent that you can’t keep those kids in line?” Ivo asked.

“It’s an army of superpowered hormonal teenagers.” Dr. Starline snapped. “Do you think they’re easy to control?”

“If you value your life, you will figure it out.” Ivo said, calling in two of his attack drones.

The drones pointed their lasers at Dr. Starline’s head.

“Yes, sir.” Dr. Starline replied.

“Now get back to work.” Ivo said, motioning to the door.

Dr. Starline marched out.
