Sonic woke up bright and early that morning, before the other boys woke up. He knew today was the day, he could feel it.

They had secretly trained for this, learning skills they’d need. Manic, Kit, and Tails had learned hacking. They all had worked on strength and speed. Manic had learned lock picking just in case, but it wasn’t likely he’d need those skills for these locks.

Manic had picked pockets to get access codes for Tails to copy, then put them back into Ivo’s and Starline’s pockets. This was the next to last part of the plan.

The last step was to enact it.

Sonic would signal the girls to act as soon as they were in the hallway to start the attack.

The other boys started to wake up.

“Huddle up.” Sonic said in a low tone. “It’s time.”

The rest of the boys huddled around Sonic.

Shadow was the more reluctant member of the meeting. He and Sonic had their rows about who would be the leader, but it was put to a fair vote with Sonic winning five years ago.

“So we do what we planned.” Sonic said in a low tone. “Then, we’ll find mine and my sibs’ mom.”

“Why are we only looking for your mom again?” Knuckles asked.

Tails hung his head. “Because Sonic, Sonia, and Manic are the only ones who still have parents.” He replied. “Well, one parent anyway.”

“But you’ll all have homes.” Sonic said. “I promise.”

Manic nodded in agreement.

The door whooshed open.

An assistant bot was waiting at the doorway.

“Showtime.” Sonic said, getting up.

Dr. Starline marched to Dr. Robotnik’s office as per the latter’s orders. He had just gotten a memo from Ivo inquiring if the teens were ready for battle and wanted to give him a piece of his mind.

He had repeatedly told Ivo that the glove had already lost its effectiveness on all of them and the teens were starting to rebel over stupid things they normally wouldn’t have challenged before.

He had long since given up his plan of using the kids in his plan to double cross Ivo since the first day the kids had started challenging his authority and Sonic had beaten him up before the robots could step in. After that, he knew that the kids were a metaphorical storm brewing.

Right now, he had a feeling they were in the calm before the storm.

The doors to Ivo’s office opened.

Dr. Starline walked in. “You wanted to see me, sir?” He asked. “I hope it’s not to tell me you think those brats are ready for a war.”

“Why do you think they’re not?” Dr. Robotnik asked. “What have you been doing these past several years?”

Dr. Starline seethed. “As I have said for the past eight years, the hypnosis glove doesn’t seem to have an effect on them anymore.” He said, forcing himself to speak calmly. “They’ve been more rebellious since they hit puberty and I have a feeling they’re starting to work together.”

“Well, who’s fault is that?” Dr. Robotnik asked.

Dr. Starline rolled his eyes. “I’d say it’s our fault, sir.” He said. “This experiment has been doomed from the start since these kids have no reason to be loyal to us. You wanted them trained and treated with detachment. They attached themselves to each other against us because of it.”

“Well, you’ve outlived your usefulness.” Dr. Robotnik said, pressing a button on his gauntlet.

Several robots seized Dr. Starline before he could get away.

“I had a feeling this would happen.” Dr. Starline muttered.

“Take care of him after I leave.” Dr. Robotnik said over his shoulder on his way out the door.

The door slammed shut behind Ivo as he marched off to the training room. “I know I can get those punks under my control.” He muttered under his breath.

The lights started flickering.

Ivo stopped and looked at his gauntlet to check the systems. “That’s unusual.”

The power went out. The light on Ivo’s gauntlet went out.

Ivo reached into his pocket to get his phone out to use the flashlight feature.

Twenty glowing dots in various colors were at the end of the hallway.

“I told that idiot to make sure all the robots’ eyes were cyan or red.” Ivo said, pulling his phone out of his pocket.

“We’re not your robots, Egghead.” Sonic called.

The generator finally turned on; the lights flickered on.

Now, Ivo could see the teens standing at the end of the hall with a bunch of destroyed robots behind them.

Ivo scoffed. “You think I’m scared of you brats?”

Shadow’s spines glowed red. “You should be.”

More robots whirred past Ivo to fight the teens.

Shadow, Sonic, and Knuckles took out the robots while Manic and Tails unlocked the doors on their mini tablets that Tails had made.

Kit worked on shutting down the other robots on his mini tablet.

Surge used her rings as a stun gun to fight Ivo.

“You stupid punks!” Ivo screamed.

The doors whooshed open.

“Let’s go!” Tails called.

Manic unstrapped his hoverboard off of his back as he ran after the group.
