Shadow had finally served his prison term and was being released. He stood at the desk to collect his air shoes and gloves. He was only allowed to have his inhibitor rings since they were needed for, for lack of better terms, medical reasons.
Sonia sat on a nearby bench, waiting for Shadow.
Sonia and Shadow had gotten married a few months ago, something that created a huge sensation in the Mobian tabloids. While the marriage wasn’t the cause of the monarchy being dissolved (there were other reasons, ranging from Sonic’s disinterest in being a king to policies Aleena had created that weren’t well received), but this certainly didn’t help.
Shadow finally got his things back and signed the papers. He took his shoes and gloves, then headed to the bench where Sonia was.
Sonia hugged Shadow. “I’m so glad you’re free.”
Shadow hugged Sonia back, then started putting on his shoes. “I’ll feel more free when we leave here.” He said, sliding on his shoe. He took off his inhibitor rings. “So where are we supposed to live now?”
“You’ll see.” Sonia replied.
Shadow put his gloves on, then his inhibitor rings. He stood up, then helped Sonia up. “Do you have any rings?”
Sonia pulled a ring out, then tossed it in the air. She took Shadow’s hand and led him through the portal as soon as it opened.

Sonia and Shadow stepped into the living room of a little cottage.
The room was decorated minimally; just the necessary pieces of furniture (a couch, coffee table, and some shelves under the tv), a tv, and Sonia’s keyboard. A few paintings decorated the wall.
“Did Maria give us the paintings?” Shadow asked.
“Yes; she, Tom, and Maddie helped me decorate this.” Sonia replied. “Maria certainly has made the most of every moment since she’s finally cured.”
“So where are we?” Shadow asked.
Sonia motioned to the window. “Have a look outside.”
Shadow over to the window and opened the blinds. “Green Hills?” He asked. He looked around the room. “Wait. Isn’t this Gerald and Maria’s home?”
“Yeah, Maria is letting us live here and gave us permission to renovate.” Sonia said. “She and Gerald had wanted to fix the place up anyway.”
“We can’t afford it.” Shadow replied.
“You’ve got two job offers and I have a job.” Sonia said. “You can work for the Green Hills police department or you can work for GUN and stay stationed here and travel only for missions. You don’t have a record here.”
“GUN may be the better option.” Shadow replied. “Where do you work?”
“I’m a receptionist at Maddie’s veterinary clinic.” Sonia said.
Someone knocked on the door.
Sonia grinned and hurried for the door.
“Who is that?” Shadow asked.
Sonia opened the door, then stepped aside to let Tom, Maddie, and Maria inside.
Maria grinned. “Glad you’re out, Shadow.” She said, hugging Shadow.
“Glad you’re cured.” Shadow replied.
“We brought tacos and guacamole for your welcome home dinner.” Maddie said, handing a couple of bags to Sonia. “Sonia and Maria said you didn’t like parties.”
“Thanks.” Shadow replied.
“Ooh, it smells wonderful.” Sonia said. “Follow me to the kitchen, we’ll get the plates out for everyone.”
Everyone followed Sonia into the kitchen.

That night, Sonia and Shadow sat on the window seat of their bedroom as they looked at the stars.
“Are you sure you want to leave Mobius?” Shadow asked.
Sonia sipped her hot cocoa, then set the cup down. “I can visit any time I want.” She replied. “Besides, I love it here too.”
Shadow kissed Sonia.
Sonia snuggled against Shadow’s chest. “So we still haven’t officially had a honeymoon yet.”
“We can go anywhere you want.” Shadow said. “But don’t suggest Tokyo. Maria will be jealous if we go anywhere near the Chao garden without her.”
“Then why don’t they go with us on our ring?” Sonia asked. “They can go to the Chao garden and anywhere else while we do our own thing. They can always use a ring to go back home if they’re ready to leave before we do.”
“Great idea.” Shadow said.
Sonia yawned. “Great, I’ll tell Maddie about it tomorrow.”
“Better get to bed.” Shadow said, getting up. “We both have work to do tomorrow.”
Shadow picked Sonia and carried her to bed.
He laid Sonia down, then slid in beside her and pulled the blanket over them.
Sonia snuggled beside Shadow. “Good night; love you, Shadow.”
“Love you too.” Shadow said, putting his arm around Sonia.
