Sonia wept over the loss of her father, barely listening as the funeral arrangements were explained to her in the royal study.
Once her advisor explained it to her, he then informed her that her royal wedding to Bartleby of Dresden and coronation would be a week after the funeral to give the princess time to grieve before leaving her study.
Sonia couldn’t even think about her wedding or coronation at a time like this, but unfortunately royalty didn’t have the luxury of postponing weddings or other plans.
She had desperately wanted to be queen and knew that would only happen if her father died, but she hadn’t fully realized how painful that would be until today. She hated that it had to be that way.
It only added insult to injury that the counsel refused to accept Shadow as a potential king of Mobotropolis simply because he wasn’t born into a noble class and Shadow was a little colder to her now as a result of it.
The advisor finally left the room, allowing Sonia’s best friend and royal stylist Mindy LeTour inside.
“Hey, girl, I’m so sorry.” Mindy said, handing Sonia a tissue.
Sonia wiped her eyes. “I can’t believe he’s gone.”
Mindy hugged Sonia as she continued sobbing.

Sonic ran into Manic’s house.
Manic flinched, making his nearly three week old son Nikòs cry. “Dude, I just got him to sleep.”
Manic’s seven year old twins Glitch and Cyber ran into the room.
“Hey, Unc.” Glitch said, grinning. He held his hand out. “Did you bring any snacks?”
“Hush, Glitch.” Cyber scolded. She looked up at Sonic. “What’s wrong, Unc?”
Manic looked at Sonic. “You okay, bro?”
Sonic walked in, wiping his eyes. “Sal was watching the news; they… they announced that Dad died.” He said, sitting down beside Manic.
Glitch and Cyber flinched. “We have a grandpa?”
Manic’s jaw dropped. “He’s dead?” He asked. “What happened?”
“Apparently, he had been sick for a while.” Sonic replied.
Manic sighed. “Oh, man….”
“I know.” Sonic replied. “I wanted to tell him goodbye too.”
Manic bit his lip. “Maybe it was selfish of us to leave.”
Sonic shrugged. “You wouldn’t have met Surge or had your kids.”
Manic handed Nikòs to Glitch. “Take him to your Ma, okay?”
Glitch nodded. “Yes, Dad.” He replied. He carried Nikòs to Manic and Surge’s bedroom.
Cyber followed Glitch.
Manic wiped his tears with his sleeve. “I know, I just wish it hadn’t come to cutting ties with dad, y’know?”
“Yeah, I do.” Sonic replied. “I didn’t think about that when I left.”
“Neither did I.” Manic said. “I assumed they’d announce it if he was sick.”
“Apparently, it would’ve caused an uproar.” Sonic replied. “They finally resigned themselves to having Sonia rule the land.”
“So then we can go to his funeral?” Manic asked. “They won’t force us to rule, right?”
“I’d think so.” Sonic replied. “If not, I can get us back here, no problem.”
“When’s the funeral?” Manic asked.
“In two days.” Sonic replied.
