Manic and Sonic woke up in a cell in the catacombs.
“They’re serious about making us stay.” Sonic said, looking at the shackles.
“What… why are we here?” Manic asked.
Sonia stepped into their view, giving them a cold stare. “I’ll tell you why.”
“Sonia?” Sonic and Manic asked.
“I helped you two leave, thinking you’d stay wherever you were hiding.” Sonia said, barely controlling her anger. “It was all working so well… I was gonna be queen. Then you two show up again and mess everything up.”
“But we don’t want anything to do with this.” Sonic snapped. “Take the throne, we don’t care.”
Sonia smacked Sonic. “You know it’s not that simple!”
Sonic grit his teeth. “So what are you gonna do?” He asked. “Kill us?”
“No.” Sonia replied. “You’re just gonna stay here for a while. A long while.”
“Where’s our families?” Manic asked.
Sonic looked around. “What did you do with them?”
Sonia hesitated. “They’re safe.”
Manic scoffed. “Like I believe you now?” He asked. “What are you gonna do with them?”
“Surge and Sally are locked up too.” Sonia replied. “I’ll probably send them to your cell as soon as the kids are adopted off. I’m sure some poor, desperate childless couples would be dying to have them and I can’t keep little kids locked up forever.”
Sonic and Manic started fighting against the shackles.
“Do that all you want, but this area is soundproofed and those shackles are secured well.” Sonia replied. “I made sure Manic didn’t have anything to pick the locks with. No one is gonna help you.”
Sonia walked away, locking the cell door behind her.
“Sonia!” Sonic cried as he struggled. “Please, don’t do this! Sonia!”
Manic and Sonic finally stopped struggling after what felt like hours.
“It’s… it’s no use, bro.” Manic said, fighting back tears. “She’s lost her mind. Our kids… they’re probably gone.”
Manic broke down in tears.
“We’re gonna get out, I promise.” Sonic said. “She’s not doing this alone, we’ll work on her lackeys.”
Manic sighed. “They helped her lock up our kids.” He replied. “If they don’t care about them, why should they care about us?”
“We have to try something.” Sonic said, bumping his wrist against the wall.
Sonic’s communicator watch lit up.
“Hello?” Tails asked.
Sonic sighed in relief. “Oh, thank God.” He replied. “Tails, bro, can you hear me?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Tails asked.
“Sonia’s lost her mind.” Sonic replied. “She’s holding us prisoner. She’s talking about selling our kids off. Please help.”
“I’ll use your location to track you.” Tails said.
“I’m not sure if it’ll be that easy.” Sonic replied. “We’re in the catacombs under the palace.”
“Got it.” Tails said. “I’ll get the team and we’ll be there asap. Don’t worry; we’ll find your kids if she’s done that already. Tails, out.”
The communicator shut off.
Manic exhaled slowly. “He’ll find us, right?”
Sonic nodded.

Shadow, Rouge, and Knuckles made their way to the catacombs as Sonic and Manic yelled to get their attention while Surge yelled out some threats.
“They’re definitely up.” Knuckles said.
Rouge pointed ahead of them. “What are they doing out of the cell?”
Sonia was talking with Bunnie and Mindy while the kids stood huddled together near them at the other end of the hallway.
“We may have to act quicker than planned.” Shadow whispered back.
Shadow, Rouge, and Knuckles finally reached Sonia and the others.
“What are you doing?” Shadow asked.
“Oh, there you are, Shadow.” Sonia said. “Take them to the warehouses downtown. A lawyer will meet you there to take the kids and adopt them off.”
“Help us.” Cyber begged. “Please.”
Shadow looked at the kids. “Sonia, this has gone too far.” He said. “Selling them to random families wasn’t part of the plan.”
“Besides, they’re old enough to know what’s going on and can tell anyone who’ll listen.” Rouge added.
Sonia bit her lip. “Well… Nikòs can’t talk yet.”
Bunnie’s jaw dropped. “He’s too young to leave his mama.”
“A mama who’s had a death grip on that baby since she woke up, by the way.” Rouge said. “I’m not about to fight her for him even if I was okay with this plan.”
“Sonia, this was never part of the plan.” Mindy said. “Those are your nieces and nephews. Can you honestly do this to them or your brothers and be able to sleep at night?”
Sonia looked at the kids.
Glitch and Cyber glared at Sonia.
“Please don’t do this, aunt Sonia.” River begged.
“Daddy!” Lola cried.
The adults glanced down the hall as rattling came from two of the cells.
Nikòs started crying.
“Listen, Sonia.” Shadow said. “I was planning-”
The wall behind them collapsed.
Everyone looked at the newly made hole in the wall.
Tails stepped through it.
“Uncle Tails!” The kids cried.
“Tails?” Sonic called.
Kit and Sticks stepped in behind Tails.
Shadow motioned to Sonia. “It’s all her.” He said. “We were gonna slip them out of the country and help them go home.”
The kids shrugged.
“That’s why we came down here.” Knuckles said. “We only went along with locking them up because she could have us executed if we stepped out of line.”
“Quite brutally.” Rouge added.
Orbot hovered over. “Excuse me, but Dr. Eggman wants to know if he’s needed for further assistance.” He said. “He just realized he had plans for this evening.”
Shadow led Knuckles and Rouge over to Tails’ side.
Bunnie and Mindy stepped over to Tails.
“Tell him we got this and thanks.” Tails said.
Orbot bowed. “You’re welcome, Tails.” He replied. He hovered out.
Sonia hung her head. “I give up.” She said, pulling the keys out of her pocket. She handed Tails the keys. “Let them out.”
Tails flew over to the cells and released Sally and Surge, then Sonic and Manic.
Surge and Sally walked out of the cell.
“Hold little dude for me.” Surge said, handing Nikòs to Sally. She cracked her knuckles. “I knew I didn’t like you, Sonia.”
Manic ran over and nearly tackled Surge in a hug. “On, I’m so glad you’re safe.”
Glitch and Cyber hugged their parents.
Lola ran over to Sonic. “Daddy!”
Sonic scooped Lola up. “Aw, I’m so glad to see you, Lo.” He said, hugging her. “C’mon, let’s see your mom and big bro.”
“How did you know they were here?” Sonia asked. She looked at Shadow. “Was this part of your plan?”
“I don’t even know this kid.” Shadow said, motioning to Tails.
Sonic showed Sonia his watch. “This is a communicator my bro Tails made me.” He said. “I bumped it into the wall and it called him.”
“I… I thought that was a watch.” Sonia replied.
“I figured that it wasn’t.” Shadow said. “That’s why I left it on him.”
Sally handed Nikòs to Manic.
Tails handed Sonic a ring.
“Alright, thanks, everyone.” Sonic said. He looked at Sonia. “Get help, sis.”
“Yeah, you’re lucky I’m not letting Surge deal with you.” Manic added.
Sonia hung her head. “Before you leave, here’s the letters from Dad.” Sonia said, pulling papers out of her pockets. She handed it to Sally.
“Thanks.” Sonic and Manic replied.
Sonic tossed the ring in the air. He led his family and friends along with Manic and his family through the portal.
Sonia stood there, rubbing her arms. “He’s right.” She muttered. “What was I thinking?”
Bunnie glanced at the hole in the wall and the guards inspecting it. “Sonia?”
“I’ll take full responsibility.” Sonia said. “You were only following orders. I’ll make sure you won’t be in trouble.”
Sonia headed over to the guards by the hole.
“They’re serious about making us stay.” Sonic said, looking at the shackles.
