Sonic, Sonia, and Manic gathered at Sonic’s house.

Sonia sipped her coffee. “So what are we gonna do for Mother’s Day?”

“We should take Mom to the new steakhouse downtown.” Sonic said. “She has been dying to go there.”

“So have I.” Manic replied. “Their sushi looked amazing in the pictures.”

“You’re gonna eat fish in a steakhouse?” Sonia asked.

Manic rolled his eyes.

“Let him get what he wants.” Sonic said. “Just do me one favor, bro.”

“What’s that?” Manic asked.

“Wear something a little nicer.” Sonic replied. “As in, wear a button up and lose the piercings and spiked wristbands. Make sure your sleeves cover your tattoos. The same goes for Surge.”

“Fine.” Manic muttered.

“Would it kill you to be normal for a couple of hours, Manic?” Sonia asked.

“She knows how I normally look.” Manic replied. “It’s not like she’ll be offended.”

“That wasn’t the point.” Sonic said. “The place seems more upscale, so you kinda have to. I don’t make the social rules, bro. Any other time, I wouldn’t care. I just want to give Mom a nice Mother’s Day.”

“I can do that.” Manic said.

“So should we chip in on a gift?” Sonia asked.

“Sounds good.” Sonic agreed. “What were you thinking of getting her?”

“Eh, it probably doesn’t matter.” Manic said. “She’ll probably be disappointed with anything less than grandchildren.”

Sonic sighed. “Yeah, she’s being less than subtle about it now.”

“She hasn’t bothered me about it.” Sonia said.

“That’s because you married hedgehog John Wick.” Sonic replied.

“He told me that he told her outright not to aggravate you and him over it.” Manic added.

Sonia shook her head. “Can’t blame him, but he probably could’ve been nicer about it.”

“Anyway, why don’t we get her massage chair?” Manic asked.

Sonia and Sonic agreed.

Sonia pulled her phone out and started searching for one online.

Sonic and Manic leaned back in their seats.

“So do you want me to make a card and we all sign our names to it?” Manic asked.

“Yeah, you do a great job with it.” Sonic replied. “I mean, as long as you have time for it.”

“It’s not a big deal.” Manic said. “I already have a head start on it.”

“I thought all artists run behind on projects.” Sonic replied.

“Some run behind because they’re busy and forget or are fighting with ADHD effects.” Manic said. “But some have no discipline and procrastinate. I get started months early so I won’t have to rush.”

Sonic nodded.

“Alright, I found a good one online for two hundred on Marketplace.” Sonia said. “All we gotta do is contact them and let Shadow pick it up.”

Sonia showed Manic and Sonic the picture. “What do you think?”

“It looks pretty good.” Sonic said.

Manic nodded. “I’m sure Ma will love it.”

“Okay, I’ll tell Tails about it.” Sonic said. “He’ll chip in and I’ll let you know what day is good for him and everyone.”

Sonia and Manic nodded.

Sonia set her phone down on the coffee table. “Alright, it’s settled.”

Shadow sat down beside Sonia. “What’s settled?”

“Knuckles will pick up and drop off the massage chair we got for Mother while we’re out.” Sonia replied.

Shadow sighed. “Where are we going?”

“Shadow, this is a special dinner for Mother.” Sonia said. “Can’t you go out for a couple of hours with no complaints?”

“I don’t mind going out for dinner.” Shadow replied. “But it’s a disaster every time we go anywhere with your brothers. I feel first and second hand embarrassment when I have to go out in public with them.”

“Please don’t remind me.” Sonia said, grimacing. “I’m not looking forward to that part of it either, but this is for Mother and we really want to do something special for her.”

“I know.” Shadow replied. “I’m hoping they won’t ruin it for her.”

“Oh, and I should tell you Sonic had nothing to do with sticking plastic flamingos in our yard.” Sonia said. “That was all Manic and Surge.”

“Not surprised.” Shadow replied. “Why?”

“I don’t even know.” Sonia said, tossing her hands up weakly. “He was giggling too hard to tell me. I thought he was gonna die laughing.”

“We’re not that lucky.” Shadow muttered.

Sonia lightly smacked Shadow’s arm. “Hey, that’s my brother you’re talking about.” She said, trying to stifle her laughter.

“So when are we taking your mom to dinner?” Shadow asked.

“We can all go on Mother’s Day.” Sonia replied. “Manic went ahead and made the reservation for four pm that evening.”
