Sonic found a third Chaos emerald and took it back to Tails’ workshop.

Tails took the emerald and locked it up. “Sonia already left for the studio.”

Sonic sighed. “Any luck with the others?”

“Not yet.” Tails replied. “I’m gonna fly around and try to trace their locations while you’re out.”

“Alright, see you.” Sonic said. He raced off for the Mobius records office.

Sonic walked into the recording studio and froze. “Sally?”

Sally Acorn, Sonic’s old friend from preschool, stood there with Sonia and Surge. She looked at Sonic and smiled. “Hey, it’s good to see you again.” She said, hugging Sonic.

Sonia nodded. “Oh, you’re that Sally. He talks about you sometimes.”

“We were best friends until I moved away.” Sally said.

Sonic looked around. “Where’s the kids?”

“Amy’s watching them for us.” Surge replied. “She’s our usual babysitter.”

Rouge and Manic, dressed in nicer clothes, walked in.

Sonic laughed. “So are you making a music video in the Matrix?”

Manic sighed. “Well, I wanted to go with the stage name Neo, but Rouge said no.”

“So what is your stage name?” Surge asked.

“Chikyū.” Manic replied.

“I think it suits you.” Surge said.

Sally stepped forward. “Manic, before you begin, I brought you something.”

Manic motioned to a large sheet that clearly had something underneath it. “Is that the thing under the sheet?”

“Yeah.” Sally replied. “You’ll love it.”

Manic stepped over and pulled the sheet away.

A set of drums were under the sheet.

Manic stared at it for a moment, then excitedly motioned for Surge. “Babe, it’s them!”

Surge stepped over and hugged Manic.

Manic cried.

“That’s the drum set his dad bought him, isn’t it?” Sonia asked.

“I found out he was selling them at the pawn shop and I bought them for him.” Sally replied. “I’ve kept them at my dad’s house. I hadn’t been able to contact him in a while to let him know and I thought I’d surprise him when he called me yesterday.”

Rouge sniffled and wiped her eyes with a tissue. “Aww, that’s so sweet.”

Manic finally let Surge go and wiped his eyes. “Oh, man, thank you.” He said. “Thanks, Sally. I… I don’t know what to say.”

“Your reaction is enough.” Sally replied.

“Play for a few minutes before we get started.” Rouge said.

Surge handed Manic his drumsticks.

Manic got behind the drums and started playing.

“Wow, he’s really good.” Sonic said.

Surge nodded. “Over half of our dates was just listening to him play or sing.”

“He’s awesome, but didn’t that bother you?” Rouge asked. “Some girls wouldn’t have liked that.”

Surge shook her head. “I liked hearing him play and it was an effortless date.” She replied. “We hung out at his house, his dad made us dinner, and we’d watch movies. Didn’t have to dress up or spend a load of money.”

Manic stopped playing. “Ah, man, I’ve missed playing.”

“Still got it, Cute stuff.” Surge said.

“Okay, let’s get you in the recording booth.” Rouge said, leading Surge and Manic into the other room.

Sonia checked her phone. “Tails said he’s having trouble finding the emeralds.”

Sally gasped. “The Chaos Emeralds are missing?”

Sonic looked away. “My fault; don’t scold me, I feel bad enough that this happened.”

Sally hugged Sonic. “It’s okay, I’ll do what I can to help you.”

“Thanks, Sal.” Sonic replied.
