Manic and his family met up with Sonic and Sonia at the Mobodoon community theater.
“Mother, this is Manic and his wife Surge.” Sonia said, walking Aleena over to Manic. She motioned to the kids. “And this is Cyber, Glitch, and Nikós.”
“Nice to meet you all.” Aleena replied.
“I’m sorry if this was off mission for Sonia and Sonic.” Manic said. “I really appreciate it. I was close to losing my kids and we didn’t even have a home.”
“You’re more than welcome.” Aleena replied. “I’m proud of them for being so willing to help you. I’m just glad it didn’t interfere. We can’t risk the Emeralds falling into the wrong hands.”
Manic nodded.
Aleena hugged Sonia. “I am proud of you and Sonic.” She said, smiling. “You’re willing to help someone no matter what. That’s admirable.”
“Thanks, Mother.” Sonia replied.
Rouge walked over. “Manic, please tell me- oh, of course you’re already in costume.”
Manic laughed. “Sorry, the kids were being a pain to get ready.”
Sonic, already in his concert look, was waiting by the curtain. “C’mon, I’m waiting.”
Sonia activated her medallion. Her outfit and makeup flashed over her.
Aleena hugged Sonia. “Break a leg, baby.”
“Thanks, Mother.” Sonia said, smiling.
Manic, Sonic, and Sonia headed out on stage.

The concert was going well for most of the show.
The crowds cheered wildly, but Manic could make out the sounds of his family.
Manic spotted an odd green flash from the crowd, but assumed it was a big glow stick.
Manic gasped as his voice went out midway through their next to last song.
Sonia and Sonic’s outfits started flickering.
Manic did his drum solo, but gave Sonic and Sonia worried looks.
Sonic exhaled slowly. His eyes started glowing turquoise and blue sparks started flying off of himself.
The holograms flickered back on and Manic’s medallion lit up again.
Manic breathed a sigh of relief and started singing again.
“Please keep working until I’m off stage.” Manic thought.

Finally, the concert was over.
Aleena hugged Sonia. “Great job, sweetie.”
“Cool light show, Sonic.” Sally said, hugging Sonic.
“Why didn’t you get that thing, Manic?” Surge asked.
Rouge shook her head. “That wasn’t part of the show as far as I know.”
Manic glared at Sonic. “Yeah. What was that about?”
“It’s Chaos powers.” Sonic said. “Sonia and I got it from prolonged exposure to the emeralds. I had to power up the medallions. If both of us did it, it would’ve blown the place up.”
“The medallions went out again?” Tails asked.
Manic clenched his fists. “You said you had fixed the problem.”
“I have no idea.” Sonic said. “They were charged. That shoulda lasted twenty-four hours.”
“It’s like something shut it off.” Sonia added.
“Oh….” Tails said, eyes wide.
Surge and Manic looked at Tails.
“What do you know?” Manic asked.
“I thought it wasn’t real.” Tails replied. “None of us thought it was real.”
“What are you talking about?” Manic asked.
“The Master Emerald.” Sonic said. “Okay, so the Chaos Emeralds were created by the echidna tribe like… over a thousand years ago. No one knows how they did it. Anyway, they tried to use it to take over the world, but the guardians tricked them and got the emeralds.”
“But not the master emerald.” Surge replied.
“The thing is, it was a legend.” Sonic said. “No one knew who started it, but the earliest we traced the legend’s origin was about a hundred years after the guardians sealed away the Chaos emeralds.”
“What does it do?” Manic asked.
“According to legend, it acts as a controller for the Chaos emeralds.” Tails replied. “Someone used it to shut off our medallions.”
“And you can’t make your own Master emerald?” Surge asked.
“I’ve made a fake emerald before, but it wasn’t as powerful as the regular Chaos emeralds.” Tails replied.
“Blew up in my hand too.” Sonic said. “Still dealing with residual effects from it.”
“Okay, so my detector said there’s an energy signature nearby.” Tails said. “A really strong signal.”
“Then look for it.” Surge replied. “So we can fix this mess.”
“Among other things.” Manic said. “They’re powerful enough to be weapons.”
“Who was the idiot who lost the emeralds in the first place?” Surge asked.
“Me.” Sonic said sheepishly.
“Why am I not surprised?” Surge muttered.
“I saw an odd green flash in the crowd.” Manic said.
“That’s the master emerald.” Tails replied.
“Okay, this is deliberate.” Sonia said. “How do we find this echidna?”
“Go around with the detector to find the source of the emerald energy signature.” Tails said. “Sonic, Shadow, and I can do that.”
Sonia crossed her arms. “What do we do?”
“You help Mom get them to safety.” Sonic said, motioning to Manic and his family. “Sal, you and Rouge can go with them.”
“If it all goes south, there’s always earth.” Sonic replied.
Surge motioned to Manic. “Help me with the kids.”
Sonia got a ring out. “We’ll go to Emerald island.”
Sonic, Shadow, and Tails left the room.
