Chapter 31: Mothers
Broud was at his hearth when Ayla came over leading her mate, Harr and carrying over her ugly child. She sat at his feet and waited to be acknowledged. Broud, curious about what this was about, tapped her on the shoulder to acknowledge her.
“This woman’s mate is not very good at speaking properly,” signed Ayla. “So she is here to translate.”
“Go on, speak more,” waved Broud.
“May this woman’s mate use your mate to Relieve his Needs?” signed Ayla.
“This is a strange thing to request,” signed Broud. “This man KNOWS that your mate can speak properly well enough for that. He has seen him give you the Signal many times.”
“This woman’s mate will not be giving her the Signal,” signed Ayla. “My mate has a more unusual Need he wants Relieved, a Need for a Mother.”
“That is acceptable to this man,” signed Broud.
Ayla then turned to Aga.
“Aga, my mate has never known a mother’s Love,” signed Ayla. “His mother died when he was too young to remember. Since you are his mother in the Clan, could you give him a mother’s Love?”
“This woman would be happy to give Love to her son,” signed Aga, before turning to Harr. “What would you like me to do?”
“This Weech has a magic potion that will turn him into a baby for a short time,” signed Ayla. “My mate just wants you to hold him while he is a baby.”
Aga nodded her agreement, and Ayla pulled an object from her wrap that resembled a piece of ice. She had previously removed a bit of hair from Cror, pulled out the bark that was sealing the vial and dropped the hair in the polyjuice potion. Ayla handed it to her mate and he drank it before handing her the empty vial.
Harr was suddenly wracked with the pain of transformation. He laid down as he began shrinking. He continued to shrink but his wrap did not shrink with him. Soon he was a newly born Clan baby.
“Isn’t he cute!” signed Aga, as she picked him up out of his wrap.
She held him to her chest and rocked him. Then she put a nipple in his mouth. Harr’s mind had not been regressed to infant-hood. Mentally, he was still himself. But something about this situation set off something primal in him. Her youngest son was still in his weening year, so she still had milk for him, which he drank of.
Ayla walked away and left him to his mother son bonding. She walked over to Creb’s hearth. She had her own mother child bonding she wanted to do.
“How are you feeling, mother?” signed Ayla.
“This woman is feeling much younger,” signed Iza. “The cough has completely gone and this woman as much more energy.”
“How has Uba’s reminding of Medicine Woman memories coming along?” signed Ayla.
“It is going very well,” signed Iza. “Soon she will become a woman. When she is mated, I will ask Brun’s permission to make her a Medicine Woman.”
“That is good to see,” signed Ayla. “How would you like to have another daughter?”
“This woman is too old to have more children,” signed Iza.
The people of the Clan aged twice as fast as the Others. So, at 23, Iza had the maturity of a 46 year old woman.
“Have your women’s curses stopped?” signed Ayla.
“No, this woman still gets them,” signed Iza. “But they happen less often than they used to.”
“This Weech has been studying potion magic with her mate,” signed Ayla. “This Weech knows how to make a potion that will make certain that your totem is defeated and that the child will be a girl.”
Iza was dumbfounded at this!
“How is it possible to pick the gender of your child?” signed Iza. “Doesn’t Ursus pick the gender?”
“The magic of the potion accomplishes this, but at the cost of preventing any future children,” signed Ayla. “But at your age, this woman thinks one will be enough for you.”
“What must this woman do to make this happen?” signed Iza.
“This Weech will give you a magic potion to drink, then you must go Relieve the Needs of a weez-ur,” signed Ayla. “The younger he is, the better. But he needs to be a man, and not a child.”
“This woman is ready to go do that now,” signed Iza.
“There is something else this Weech would like to speak with you about first,” signed Ayla.
“What is it?” signed Iza.
“This Weech thinks that between herself and her mate, we could fix Creb’s club foot and restore his arm and eye.”
“That is a difficult one,” signed Iza. “The loss of his arm and eye by marked him as the chosen of Ursus. After living with his disability so long, he may not want to become like everyone else. You should discuss this with him.”
“This Medicine Woman will,” signed Ayla, before giving her mother a hug.
Ayla then pulled a vial of potion out of her wrap, unstoppered it, and handed it to her.
“Here is the potion. Drink it in one gulp, then go Relieve a weez-ur’s Needs.”
“It tastes awful!” signed Iza.
“Most potions do,” signed Ayla.
As Iza left, Ayla gave her another hug, then sat in front of Creb.
When the potion wore off, Harr found himself turning back into his adult form in Aga’s lap, naked. Blushing, he quickly got off of her and put his wrap back on.
“This man to be gratitude for Love Mother,” signed Harr.
“This woman is happy to do this again for her son,” signed Aga.
Harr gave her a hug and returned to his hearth.
Later, Iza came to visit Ayla at Harr’s hearth.
“The Mog-Ur wants this Medicine woman to make the special mog-ur’s tea,” signed Iza. “Can you help this Medicine Woman prepare?”
“We should let Uba help too, so she can be reminded,” signed Ayla.
“Uba?” called Iza, which made Uba come over from visiting Vorga at Broov’s hearth.
“Yes?” asked Uba.
“We are going to help mother prepare for a mog-urs’ ceremony,” signed Ayla.
Ayla then drew her wand and pointed it at a bowl. “Aquementi!”
Water poured out of her wand and filled the bowl. The water was not heated. But the temperature that the spell produced was warmer than any that they already had in the cave. It was warm enough for Iza to feel comfortable bathing with. Ayla handed her a rabbit fur and Iza used it and some soap-root to purify herself.
While Iza was doing that, Ayla grabbed the white powered rock that was used for white paint and mixed it with water to produce paint of the right consistency.
Once Iza was purified and dry enough, Ayla and Uba painted all of her skin from head to toe in the white paint. She then showed/reminded Uba how to draw the symbols using a red ochre pain.
Now that Iza was prepared, Ayla gave her the old mog-urs’ bowl filled with water and the special root used for this ceremony. Iza chewed the root and spit it into the bowl, then mixed it to form the special tea. She then carried it over to Creb’s hearth.
