After 6 months of relentless bullying by Kevin and the kids, Jonny finally snaps. (Based on that scene from A Christmas Story!)
0Unrated
The winter wind howled through the Peach Creek cul-de-sac, dusting the snow-covered pavement where a large crowd of neighborhood kids had gathered. Post-Big Picture Show life had been peaceful, but old habits died hard for Kevin. He stood smirked, bouncing a packed ice-ball in his hand, mocking Jonny 2x4 in front of everyone.
"Hey, look, it's the melon-head loser!" Kevin jeered, throwing the ice-ball right at Jonny’s chest. "Where's your wooden boyfriend, Jonny? Oh, wait, you threw him away!"
The crowd laughed, but Jonny didn't run. Something inside him snapped, echoing Ralphie's breaking point from A Christmas Story. Years of isolation, the betrayal after the Big Picture Show, and Kevin's constant torment culminated in a blinding flash of pure rage. Jonny let out a primal, guttural scream that silenced the entire cul-de-sac. Before Kevin could react, Jonny lunged! He tackled Kevin straight into a snowbank, pinning him down.
Jonny rained a furious barrage of wild punches, completely overwhelming the neighborhood bully. Kevin wailed, shielding his face as his tough-guy persona shattered into tears and apologies.
"Stop it! Let go!" Kevin sobbed, completely defeated in front of everyone.
"Jonny, stop! You're going to seriously hurt him!" Double D yelled, rushing forward alongside Nazz. Together, they grabbed Jonny's arms, pulling him off the weeping bully. Jonny stood breathing heavily, his knuckles red, tears streaming down his own face.
"Why, Jonny? Why would you do this?" Double D asked, his voice trembling with shock. Jonny looked at Double D, then at Nazz, his voice cracking with immense pain. "Because he wouldn't stop! None of you stop! Ever since that day, you all treated me like a monster! I made mistakes, but I lost Plank! I lost my best friend, and you all just laughed and kept kicking me while I was down! I just wanted my life back!"
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the cul-de-sac. Nazz looked at Kevin, then back at Jonny's tear-stained face, her expression softening into deep regret. Double D adjusted his hat, looking down at the snow, completely ashamed.
"Oh, Jonny..." Nazz said softly, stepping closer and placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "We... we didn't realize how much you were hurting. We were so caught up in everything changing that we left you behind. I am so sorry."
"Nazz is right," Double D added, his eyes filled with sincere remorse. "Our behavior toward you post-vanguard was entirely uncalled for and deeply unjust. We focused on our own new beginnings and completely ignored your suffering. Please, forgive us. We want you back in the group, Jonny. Properly this time."
Jonny wiped his nose with his sleeve, looking at his old friends. The rage vanished, replaced by a quiet sense of relief. He nodded slowly. For the first time in months, he wasn't an outcast anymore.
