You have just crossed my favorite fandom (the Disc and all of its appertenices and possessions) with a growing obession of mine (Naruto, the dangerously adicting). Right now, I am squeeing and doing a happy dance.
Wonderful characterizations, and you're giving some of my favorite characters the time in the sun that they deserve. My only cannon-question is: didn't the last book with Rincewind in it ("The Last Hero") end up with him back in Ankh-Morpork?
Anyway, loved the characterization of Shikamaru as The Stibbons mind paired with the Rincewind cowardice. And The Librarian getting past all of Orochimaru's Jutsus is priceless. Although I'm not sure why he didn't win. I guess Orochimaru shouldn't have his head of the month pulled off, as finding a new body on the Disc where Sasuke is not (yet) would be such a bummer for him.
I really hope that a couple of our favoirite shinobi run into the Watch. I actually like most of the characters in Ankh-Morpork's City Watch better than the wizarding end of the Disc. Watching Commander Vimes trying to sort out the mess of ninjas running around, and who to arrest, and who not to arrest on suspicion of being too bloody clever by half, would make for an interesting tale.Author's response
Glad you liked it! Re: canon-question, I used the device of Twoflower inviting Rincewind back to the empire with the absolute garantee that he would be safe. (Yeah right, it's Rincewind). You just know Rincewind and Team 10 would get along well, what with their being the only people who are well and truly against stupid heroics. The Librarian didn't win because, while he's all kinds of badass and protective of his books, he's up against a psychotic ninja bibliophile with enough power to blow up a small planet; Orochipants not killing him was a gesture of respect because the Librarian came quite close to kicking his ass.
