When Litzy got home she stayed in bed and cried for two days. Each day the pain was made worse by the fact that Davey never called to explain himself, apologize, or even acknowledge that she was hurt by what he did. He didnt call at all. As the days turned into weeks she began to truly accept that she would never see him again. All her friends told her that he was just experimenting with her that night and now things were all awkward and he didnt know how to handle it. But that just made her even sadder.
She deleted all the AFI songs and videos from her iPod and computer. She boxed up the CDs along with everything he'd ever given her. She took the photos of them together down - at work and at home. People at work asked "What happened to the cute guy?" and she could only reply "the cute guy is gone." Every now and then she'd see AFI on TV or in magazines, even though she tried to avoid it. And whenever she saw Davey he was wearing the necklace she'd given him. That only insulted her more.
Her brain kept making it worse by replaying memories. All the times they'd laughed together and cried together. All the times they'd chased each other around in the snow, ran to the tourbus screaming in the pouring down rain, spent a day shopping, all the meals they'd shared, all the hugs and smiles and words of encouragement. All the glances without words that made them smile because each of them knew exactly what the other was thinking. All the nights they'd stayed up trying to beat each other at HALO and ended up falling asleep on each other on the floor. The phone calls that lasted from sunset to sunrise. All the movies they'd seen together and the times they'd gotten inked together.
What happened to all of that?
All she could do was throw herself into her work as a Public Relations exec, which she fortunately was very good at. Due to her extra work she was actually able to get a promotion and her first major client. Her friends took her out to celebrate and for the first time in awhile she felt happy. Until Jade called that night to say hello. Normally she loved talking to Jade, but this time he mentioned something in passing that made her want to die.
Davey had a boyfriend.
It was that Tyler kid from the party. He'd been on the road with them for two weeks and was driving Jade nuts.
"But hey, as long as Davey's happy," he said. "So how are you?"
"A little queasy. Jade, can I call you back?"
"Sure, babe. Take care, love you."
"Love you, too," she said and hung up.
She wasnt lying, she really was queasy, but that had been an off and on thing for the past week. It had nothing to do with Davey and everything to do with her new big client and having to give them a presentation the next day. In front of the top exec team.
