It was well past midnight. Tara and Giles were the only ones left in the waiting room. After all, even though the others were worried about their friend, it was another school day. Giles had urged Tara to go home and get some rest. He had tried to tell her that he would call if he had any information. But she had simply refused. There was no way that she was leaving the hospital, not until she knew how her girlfriend was.
Girlfriend! It still amazed her that the two had found one another and had become so close so quickly. And that they had said that they loved one another. That was the biggest thing that amazed her.
No one, with the exception of her mother, had ever shown her the slightest bit of love. Her father had abused her since she was five years old. And Donny didn't seem to care that she was always in pain. But now, he actually had helped her get to the hospital. But she wondered at what price to himself.
And her brother would soon be eighteen. That would allow him to move out on his own. Even though they had never really been close, she knew that he was saving every penny that he earned from the band that he and Oz are in.
Tara was literally exhausted at this point. And just a little bit more than worried. After all, how long was this dang surgery supposed to take anyways? It had been over five hours and there had been no word yet.
Another of her fears was the fact that it appeared that some of the hospital staff were now aware that she and Willow meant more to each other than cousins. She looked over at Willow's uncle and smiled. It had been a very nice and generous thought indeed him telling them he was her uncle too.
She watched him for a moment. He appeared to be sleeping. His head was leaned back and his mouth open. This man that she knew very little about had actually been nice. And she got the feeling that it wasn't just because Willow is his niece. No, this is a very good man indeed.
"Miss McClay?" She jumped at the sound of her name. She stood quickly, Giles also awoke and came to stand by her. "Your cousin is out of surgery now. She's in recovery."
"Is there any news on her condition?" Giles hoped that there was some kind of news. He didn't think that Tara or he could take anymore waiting with no word.
"Well, it's still very early to tell anything for sure." The doctor looked at them both. "But we were able to remove the pressure on her optic nerve. There appeared to be no immediate complications. As far as her back and the paralysis, again, it's too early to tell if the swelling will go down on its own, or if there was more severe damage."
"But, she's all right?" Tara asked hopefully.
The doctor smiled. "She will be all right. We just won't know the full diagnosis until she wakes up again."
"When can I see her?" Tara was about to run to her girl.
"I'm afraid that won't be until morning." The doctor sighed. "You probably should go and get some rest." With that, the doctor turned and left.
Tara sighed. She felt Giles put a hand on her shoulder. "He is right, my dear. You really should get some rest." She turned and looked at him. "You should do it for her, if no one else. She'll want to see you when she wakes up. You should not look worn out. You might worry her."
"I never thought of it like that." She half smiled at him. "I just don't know how I will get any rest, not really knowing how she is doing."
"Why don't you come home with me." Tara looked at him, a little bit of a question mark on her face than anything. "I know of the situation with your father. That he is not very understanding. But I want you to know that you have a place to come if and when you should need to."
Now there was a little smile on Tara's face. "That's very nice of you, Mr. Giles. But I can't leave my mother. She's still too sick."
"Not to make you worry more, but the doctor's still have not found out what is wrong with her?" Tara shook her head in response. "That is strange." Giles got a thoughtful look on his face for a moment. "You can call your brother if you like. I believe he'll understand you not wanting to face your father at the moment."
Tara nodded. This was all so new to her. People actually being nice and helping her. It was all so much to take in. Along with the fact that the girl of her dreams was still lying in a hospital bed and she didn't know if she would ever walk or see again.

Spike felt the rush of the air over his face. He had hated leaving Buffy at the hospital like he had. But if his suspicions were right, he had to act fast.
He had stopped at his house and his brother was nowhere to be found. That made sense, at least in the sick twisted way. If what he thought was true, there were only so many places that his brother could be.
And he could not help but wonder where Drusilla fit into all of this. The poor girl had been somewhat of a mess when they had been dating. But she had really hit rock bottom since Angel had somehow latched onto her. If something happened to her, Angel would soon wish that he had never been born.
Spike slowed the motorcycle down as he got close to his destination. In fact, he came to a stop at the edge of the road. He took the time to park it in some trees to cover it up to keep anyone from seeing it.
Slowly he made his way to the wire mesh fence like all auto body shops keep around them. It didn't take much of an effort for him to climb over it. He had become very good at getting into places he was not supposed to. Only when he had to.
And this was definitely one time that he had too. He was grateful that there was a sliver of a moon out with few clouds. It helped light his path a little. It was not long before he had made his way to the side of the warehouse style building.
There was a platform he climbed up on just beside a window. He peered in, hoping that no one would see him. He smiled sadly to himself. Sure enough, there was his big brother. And there was that fancy red car of his. Definitely having seen better days.
Spike shook his head. He had part of the answer he had been seeking. The only reason that Angel would come all the way out here was to avoid being caught. After all, daddy owned this auto body shop and the mechanics would know better than to ask questions that Angel did not want answered.
Now, the only question that remained in Spike's mind was who was driving at the time of the accident. Willow could have seriously been hurt. If not killed. And he did not like seeing one of his friends hurt. That pretty much made him angry. So angry that he was not paying attention as he was getting down from the platform. A fist came flying out of nowhere and rendered him unconscious.

Buffy lay in her bed wondering. Wondering what was happening with Willow. Friends were hard enough to come by. But friends that don't judge and are there for you are even rarer. In the short week that she had known the redhead, the girl had been that and more to her.
But the biggest thing that she was wondering about was where had Spike gotten himself. He said that it was something important but that she need not worry. But she was worried.
Was there someone else? Was he out there right now with that Drusilla that he had used to date? Was he doing something that he should not be doing?
She sighed heavily and rolled over on to her side. This was a mistake. Because there on her night stand was a picture of her and Spike. It was taken right after the dance. He was so good looking. And the way that he made her feel when his arms were wrapped around her was so amazing.
But where was he and what was he doing? She closed her eyes and tried to imagine that he was beside her, holding her. It was of little comfort. But little was better than none.

Xander hadn't gone home after he left the hospital. Neither had Anya. In fact, the two were now at Bluff Man's Point, the local make out hill.
But they were not making out. But they were in the back seat of Anya's Daddy's Chevy Blazer. They were just simply holding one another for dear life.
"You know," Xander hesitated before he continued. "This whole Will getting hurt thing has got me thinking. Especially since Tara's father is partly to blame. I mean, what kind of a jerk won't let his daughter be happy. Granted, two girls isn't exactly the norm."
"But that doesn't matter." Anya looked up into his eyes. "Love is love. It doesn't matter who it is between. The two of them are just so lucky that they found each other when they did. And now, we have to try and help them hold on to what they do have. At least, that's my opinion."
Xander smiled big at his girlfriend. "Well, all of this has me thinking. About me and you, I mean."
Anya sat up. "Really? Good things, better be anyways."
He could not help but laugh a little. "You know that you bring out the best in me. And that is not easy to do. You are the most special girl I have ever met. Even more special than Willow, and that says a whole lot." He looked into her eyes and swallowed hard before continuing. "I love you, Anya."
She stared at him a moment. Speechless. But she quickly recovered herself. "Well, what's not to love?" She smiled at him. She could tell by the look on his face that he was somewhat hurt. "And I love you too. Just have been afraid to say it."
Xander leaned down and kissed her gently. "Not to ruin the mood, but I wonder how Willow is doing. I wish we knew."

Faith sat out on the back porch. She had just gotten done talking with Oz. They had spent the last few hours together. But she had left him to go home. And after that, she had picked up the phone and called him. It was like she was checking to make sure that he was all right.
"Any word on your friend?" Wesley walked out carrying a blanket. He sat down next to her on the bench and covered both of them up.
She shook her head. "Naw. Talking to Oz. Even though we just talked. Weird, but I've been wanting to check on the guy ever since all this went down with Willow." She turned to look at her big brother. "I really must be falling hard for this guy, huh?"
Wesley smiled. "I should say so." He looked at her for a moment. "You're not alone. I've been on the other line talking with Fred. She had not heard about poor Willow. The two were not necessarily close, but because Willow spent a lot of her free time in the library, the two had talked. It was quite devastating to say the least."
Faith shook her head. "Don't go and tell me you've fallen hard as well." He laughed in response. "Well, this is interesting to say the least." He looked at with one eyebrow raised. "Well, the chick, that would be me, that could never settle on one guy has fallen hard for little ole Oz. Warm cuddly Oz, but still. One. Singular. And you, big brother, who never took the time to date or even think about dating, now has a semi serious relationship going on. That's so cool."
Wesley nodded his head. "Why is it that it takes tragedy for us to realize what we have. Or what we always wanted?" He sighed heavily. "I wish that I could have let myself feel something before this. But with circumstances being what they are.."
"No need to go there, dude." Faith sighed as well. She knew that both of them were kinda scarred from their parents lack of affection. Affection, hell if they would even acknowledge their existence half of the time. But that is the way that things go.
Wesley wrapped his arm around Faith's shoulder. This is how the two had always survived when they were younger. Especially when they had moved away from Sunnydale. The two had leaned on each other for support.

Cordelia Chase should not care. Than why was she caring? She shook her head and tried to go back to sleep. But ever since she had heard the news from Doyle, her mind just would not rest at all. Willow Rosenberg was in the hospital. And who knows how badly hurt she really is.
She rolled over yet again. It flashed in her mind what Doyle had said. A red sports car. Isn't that what Angel drives. She shook her head. Angel and her were both pretty damn shallow people. But even they would not hurt someone. And she knew that she would step up if there had been an accident. Surely Angel would too.
Or would he? She was asking herself a lot these days what type of person she was. And what type of person Angel was. After all, Doyle was the first person to have the guts to truly stand up to her. Well, besides Buffy and the nerd herd.
And why did she still call them that? That was like something out of the fifth grade. God! Such serious thoughts and for so late in the night. And all because the nerd had to go and get herself hit by a car.
Cordelia cringed at that callous thought. She really was that bad of a person, wasn't she? All this time, she had thought that it was others that were the wrong ones. But, as it appeared now, she was the evil one.
It made her think. A lot. And her thoughts were drawn to a certain foreign exchange student. He said that he really cared for her. But the only way that he would consider going out with her is if she were to change. She smiled to herself. So why not change? And who better to teach her.

The morning sun hit Tara and made her wake up instantly. She looked around, scared at first. These were very unfamiliar surroundings. And than, she remembered. She remembered everything that had happened.
She quickly got up. She was still dressed in her clothes from the day before but did not care. It didn't take long for her to realize that Giles was already up and in the kitchen. He had slept on his couch downstairs and given his nice big bed to her.
Before the Englishman could say anything, she asked, "any word on how she's doing?"
He shook his head. "I'm afraid not, dear. But that doesn't mean anything." He looked at the clock. "We'll both be late for school, I'm afraid."
Tara looked at him with a look of determination on her face. "Sorry, but no school for me today. I'm going to stay at the hospital until I know how she really is."
"I figured as much." Giles could not help but smile. The fact that his niece had found someone that cared so deeply was of great importance to him.

Hospital waiting rooms are the worst places. That's what Tara kept thinking. After all, she had spent a great deal of time in them having to try and help her mother get better.
Now she was here because her girlfriend was lying somewhere and doing who knows how. It was getting beyond the point of frustration to say the least.
"You can see her now." Tara perked up at the words of the orderly. "Follow me." She got in step behind him as he lead her down the maze of hallways. He stopped and nodded. "Take your time. But don't expect her to wake up right away."
Tara nodded gratefully. Slowly, she opened the door. It was worse than the last time. The redhead was still hooked up to all sorts of monitors that were beeping and flashing. There were also those darn IVs. But what was worse was the fact that Willow's whole head was wrapped in bandages.
It appeared that they had to cut away some of her red hair. That beautiful silk feeling hair. But that was not what mattered. What mattered was what was inside. And inside is a beautiful person with a heart of gold.
The blond slowly made her way to the bedside and took a seat next to the still figure of her girlfriend. She sighed heavily, not knowing what to expect. Carefully, she picked up the redhead's hand in her own and gave it a gentle squeeze.
There was no response. Not that Tara had really expected one. But it would have been nice if there had been some kind of response. This not knowing was starting to get frustrating.
She felt exhausted still. By the time that they had gotten to Giles' and made the necessary phone calls, it was three in the morning before she had even attempted sleep. Pretty much, she was only going on about two hours of sleep. She gently rested her head on the redhead's stomach, taking comfort in the fact that there was the gentle rise and fall.
Before long, she had drifted asleep. The two stayed like this for several minutes. But suddenly, Tara could feel this gentleness on her head. Slowly, she sat herself up.
There were those green eyes that she loved so much looking into her own blue ones. And they were seeing her. They were really seeing her. "You can see me?" She whispered.
A small nod was all that Willow could manage. "Blue pretty. Girl love." And that was said with a big smile on her face.
"I love you too, sweetie." Tara took her hand and brought it to her lips and gently gave it a kiss. "But what about your legs? Can you feel them?" Willow's face was suddenly pale as a ghost. Her eyes would not meet Tara's. And that was all the answer that the blond needed.
Girlfriend! It still amazed her that the two had found one another and had become so close so quickly. And that they had said that they loved one another. That was the biggest thing that amazed her.
