When they got back to the table they found Tyler gone. Davey asked Jade where he was.
"He stormed out," he said, and shrugged.
"Not surprising," Davey said. He grabbed his jacket and Litzy's and bid everyone a good night.
"Aren't you gonna stay and eat?" Hunter asked.
"After that scene I've lost my appetite."

Back at his hotel room, Litzy curled up in bed. He knew she was tired.

"Aren't you coming to bed?" she asked.
"In a few minutes," he said, reaching down to stroke her hair.

By the time he'd changed clothes she was asleep. He went into the bathroom and made a phone call. He just had to share the news.

"Hello?" his mother answered, groggily. "Davey?"
"Hi Mom. Sorry to wake you this late but-"
"What's the matter, honey?! What happened?!"
"Nothing like that. Actually, I'm sure you'll think this is good news."
"You took that ring out of your mouth and got a haircut?" she asked, even though he was sure she knew that would never happen.
"Yeah right, mom," he laughed. "No, this is way better. You're gonna be a grandma."
"Davey, it's not nice to play jokes on your mother."
"No, I'm serious!"
"You can't be serious. How would that even be possible?"
"Well, you know my friend Litzy?"
"Yeah, the pretty girl from Chicago."
"Yeah."
"I like her," she said.
"That's good, because she's having my baby."
"How did that happen?" she asked, warily.
"As far as I recall, the good old fashioned way," he said, and laughed.
She gasped.
"I always suspected you had a crush on that girl, but I didn't ever think you'd admit it to yourself!"
"Yeah, well, now you can stop pestering me about never giving you grandchildren."
"Oh my God!" she cried, excitedly. "Well where is she?"
"She's with me right now."
"Oh my God!"
"I thought you'd be excited," he smiled.
"How do you feel about it?"
"Happy."
"And Litzy?"
"She's happy. She just..."
"What?"
"She isn't too excited about being pregnant and unmarried."
"Well who would be? But...you are going to marry her...aren't you?"
"What?! Nooooo. I don't think I know if that would be a good idea."
"Does she love you?"
"Yeah."
"Do you love her?"
"Yeah, I love her. She's my sweet pea."
"Well Sweet Pea is going to make your life a living hell if you don't marry her."
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about the fact that once she figures out you'll never be serious about her she's going to take that kid back to Chicago and you're gonna have to take her to court to see it."
"Litzy isn't like that."
"Every woman is like that. She wants love and if you don't give it to her she'll find a man who will. And then that man will be raising your son."
Just the thought alone burned him up.
"But I have rights, she can't keep him from me."
"You'll get whatever the court permits, but she won't have to give you any more than that. And God knows I might never get to spend time with him."
Davey sighed.
"Why don't you just marry her, Davey? It's the right thing to do for everyone involved."
"Because I'm not sure I can be with a woman the rest of my life. I'm not sure I can make that promise. This thing with me and her, I don't even understand it yet. What if I marry her and a year later I want out? I don't want to do that to her."
"All marriages are hard to hold together. It's not easy, not at all. You work at it, if it's worth it to you. It takes commitment. You have to want it to work. Nobody's asking you to see the future. But Davey, it's time for you to grow up. You're not getting any younger. Don't you want a family? Wouldn't you rather have that than all these boyfriends that you say are so great in the beginning, but they only end up abandoning you?"
"Mom, I gotta go."
"Oh right, you always have to go when I start telling you the truth," she said. "Well, I'm gonna let you off the phone. But think about it. If this girl loves you and will really be there for you, maybe you should let her."

After he hung up, Davey went and sat in a chair by the bed, watching Litzy sleep and thinking about the things his mother had said. Around 5:00 he was so sleepy he couldn't fight it anymore. He slipped into bed and snuggled up behind Litzy, putting his arm around her. She held his hand and kept sleeping.

Litzy woke up around 9:00 AM to find herself alone. She figured Davey was off with the other AFI boys, so she wasn't concerned. She got up and headed to the shower, happy that she wasn't battling nausea. At least not yet. She was undressing when she realized something startling. Her birthstone ring was missing. It was white gold and emerald and hadn't moved from her ring finger since her mother had bought it for her in high school. It was one of the few things she had left to remember her mother by. Now it was gone.

'Well it must've fallen off in the bed,' she decided, and went to go search amongst the covers.

Nothing.

But she didnt have a chance to try to retrace her steps, because there was a knock at the door.

"Ah shit," she muttered, looking for clothes. "Just a minute!"

She got dressed in the nearest articles of clothing she could find - her black jeans and Davey's grey Obey t-shirt with the skull on it. When she opened the door she found Jade in all his stylish glory. He was wearing all black with a houndstooth scarf. His favorite scarf, actually. He always said that when he wears it "people are always straight flockin!" Which was true, but she didn't really think it was the scarf. People just flocked to Jade no matter what he wore. But she let him have his illusions about the scarf.

"Hey, where's Davey?" he asked, looking serious and preoccupied.
"Not here, I thought he'd be with you."
"No, we don't know where he is and he's not answering his phone. Did he tell you where he was going?"
"No, he was gone when I woke up. What's going on?"
"I just got a call. Tyler is in the hospital."

As much as Litzy hated Tyler and the mere mention of his name, she couldn't help but feel a little concerned. He'd left upset and there was no telling if he'd run into some kind of trouble.

"What happened?" she asked.
"I don't know, all I know is that his sister called me in tears saying he was hurt last night and she couldnt get in contact with Davey. She was so upset I didnt want to ask for details. But I can't get ahold of Davey, either."
"Come in, let me try and call," she said, looking for her phone.
"Good luck," Jade said, plopping down on the bed.
She dialed Davey and he answered on the third ring.
"Hey."
"Hey...Davey...." she said, trying to figure out how to spring the news on him.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, it's just...Jade got a call that Tyler is in the hospital."
"What?"
She hated even telling him. She had hoped that when Tyler ran out the night before he would soon be out of the picture one way or another. But now he was lying in a hospital bed just waiting for Davey to come to his bedside and shower him with sympathy and care. He was ruining her last two days with Davey, and still competing for his attention.
"What happened?" he asked, obviously worried.
"I...I don't know. Here, talk to Jade," she said, handing the phone off.
"Where are you?" Jade asked. "What? What are you doing there? Why can't you tell me now? No, I don't know what happened to him."
While they were on the phone she snuck into the bathroom and took a quick shower, redressing in the same thing she had been wearing.

When she exited the bathroom, Jade stood up.

"Davey asked me to bring you with me to the hospital. He's gonna meet us there. Are you ready?"
"I guess," she said, remarking to herself that her nausea was coming back. "This morning really is turning out to be shitty."
"Tell me about it," Jade said, on their way out.
