Wesley didn't know what to do. He had overheard this grand thing between Fred and Gunn. And this was just shortly before he had been prepared to ask the fine young lady to marry him. But what he had heard had seemed to be a certain thing. That she was indeed seeing his best friend.
There had been nothing but tension between him and his roommate ever since he had overheard the conversation. Gunn could not understand what was going on. But he chose not to push his friend. He knew how things could go from better to worse if he pushed too hard.
So, the two usually just drifted in their days. They barely even saw each other at work. And that was fine by Wesley. And Fred had seemed a little distant as well. And that was also fine by him as well. He had never had luck in love, why should he now. At least that was his thinking.
But things seemed to want to change as they always do. For nothing ever stays the same. Life is never simple. And things rarely ever work out the way that you plan them. But things always do work out in the end.
Wesley found himself in the library again. It was one place he had just a couple days before made excuses to come to every chance that he got. But this was the first time in those two days that he was setting foot there.
And there was Fred, looking as beautiful as ever. His breath seemed to catch in his throat as he walked through those double doors. Her beauty to him was more then skin deep, but nevertheless he still saw the outer beauty as well.
The two young lovers eyes met for only a second. But it was enough for them both. It was all too much for them. The love that they had could not be denied. So, they came to one another and let out all those feelings in one simple kiss.
Luckily, it was at a time when there were no kids. And Giles was not around. He had been spending most of his time in the computer lab with Miss Calendar. Something seemed to be going on between them as well.
But now back to our two young lovers. The two kept in that kiss for the longest of times. It was wonderful. It was amazing. It was what had been longing between them and yet couldn't be fulfilled until that exact time.
Finally, they pulled apart. They just looked into each other's eyes. Finally Fred was the first to speak. "I'm so sorry. I've been so distant. I feel like such a fool."
"Don't. You are not the only one that has acted a fool in all of this. I have as well." Wesley put his hand on her cheek. "I think, no, I know I was a little jealous of the time that you seem to be spending with Gunn."
This made the beauty in his arms giggle. "Sorry, it's just that he and I are good friends. Nothing more. But I can see where you'd get that. I'm lucky. Lucky that you didn't think more was going on. We aren't going to be separated that easily."
"I hope not. Now, about tonight?" Wesley asked with a hopeful sound. Perhaps tonight could be the night.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." Fred smiled as Wesley kissed her gently then walked back out of the library, forgetting what he had come in for. And in the shadows of the stacks, she did not see Gunn listening. And not looking any too happy. That was for sure.
Oz followed the conversation in quiet as he usually did. He, Faith, Xander, and Anya sat in the lunchroom. Which was odd cause usually Faith and himself were out by themselves somewhere but for some reason today was different.
The conversation wasn't all that interesting to most people. But Oz has a way about him. He seems to be able to sense what people aren't saying. And that is just as important, if not more important, than what they do say.
He could tell that Xander was frustrated with Anya. She had yet again disappeared when the bad had happened. Everyone in the little group was wondering where she had been getting herself off to. But she had good excuses every time.
But Oz could not help but wonder how truthful those excuses were. He didn't want to come out and call her a liar, but he could sense that things were not as she said that they were. And that was not of the good.
And he could tell by Faith's body language that she was not liking how her cousin's girlfriend was treating him. It was her thing. To be overprotective of her family and friends. And that streak was definitely showing at the moment.
But he continued to just sit back and listen. He would rather not step in if he didn't have to. Only because he knew that she could handle herself. And it was good to watch her in action. The caring she showed for Xander.
This was one of the things that actually had attracted her to him. He remembered how she had tried so hard to get Willow and Tara together. Everyone could see how the two of them were meant for one another, but that they just were too shy and that they needed that extra push.
So, again he sat there listening. It was amazing what you could learn if you just listened. And he didn't know Anya that well but he could tell that there was something going on with her. Something she was hiding. He didn't like the sounds of it. But he had no way to tell what it was, so why ask?
His eyes wandered around. Finally he caught the most amazing sight that he had ever seen. It was both Willow and Tara sitting alone at a lunch table. The past few days, they had been doing that. Sitting by themselves. That was it.
It wasn't that they were ignoring. It was that they were truly in love and they were meant to be together. It was a good sight indeed. Especially after all that they had been through. Two people in love was indeed a grand thing.
Buffy was still out of it most of the time. And right now all she would do is stare at the white wall. And she was out of it for the reason that you might not suspect. Part of it was the fact that she had now been in the hospital so long.
But the main reason was 'the news'. And that was something she never would have expected. How often would you think that you would find that the man that helped give you life was the one that was responsible for nearly taking it.
It had just happened the day before. The big reveal. Her mom had come in and she could tell by the look on her face that something was going on. And then Spike, her wonderful boyfriend, walked in. And the look on his face.
The words seemed to echo over and over in her head. 'I don't know how to tell you this. It's the hardest thing that I've ever had to tell you.' At first, she had thought maybe something more was wrong with her, physically. And that had scared her to death.
But when she continued, it was even worse then her fears had thought. 'I found something out about your father. And it's not good. The police told me some things that I didn't know. And that I'm not sure how you're gonna handle.'
The ominous feeling that she was feeling. The buildup. It got to be almost too much for the young girl to handle. And then, the big reveal was something she never would have dreamed of. 'It turns out your father is part of the mob. And he's the one that set up the hit. Didn't know you'd be there. But he's still the one that almost got you killed.'
They both had tried to comfort her. But what do you say to a girl that finds out her father tried to kill her. Well, her boyfriend and his brother anyways. And that she just happened to be in the crossfire.
There's nothing anyone can say or do. She pretty much hated her father anyways before this. He had just up and left her mom for no good reason. And he never remembered her on any of the holidays or her birthday.
But still. This was so big. So, she stared at the white wall. She didn't respond when any of the nurses came in. They were all worried about her. They thought it was more physical then mental, even with all the rumors going around. She didn't care though. She just wanted to be left alone.
She had even been refusing to see even her mom. She was shutting out Spike as well. Tara and Willow had come by and again with the refusing of the seeing. The young woman felt alone and wanted it to stay that way.
Willow and Tara sat, holding hands. They whispered in each other's ears, not caring what others thought. They had been kept apart for too long for several reasons. And that was something that they didn't want to ever let happen again.
They were so involved in one another that they didn't hear Anya walk up to them. She just let them talk and watched a little red faced as Willow kissed Tara behind the ear.
After that, she cleared her throat. Both young ladies looked up. But neither were embarrassed. They were beyond that now. They loved each other and didn't give a damn who knew it or what they thought about it.
"Sorry to interrupt your little snuggling session." Anya smiled big. "But I want to ask Tara something. I know we've never really been close or anything. But I've been wanting to change that. I have this chance to go to the movies by myself this weekend. Xander wants to spend some time with his best friend. So I thought it would be perfect that the two of us do the same. After all, these two people mean a great deal to us and to each other so..."
Tara smiled her shy smile. "That sounds nice. I'd really like that as well. You've stood up for me in the past. I feel badly that we've not taken the time to get to know one another better. And Willow and I aren't inseparable."
"And I thought we were joined at the hip." Willow began pouting, acting all hurt like. "Well, guess I've lost my magnetism. Sigh."
Tara leaned in and kissed her gently. "Never my love." That made the redhead smile big again. "So, you and me and a movie this weekend. Sounds fun. I can't wait."
"Me either." Anya walked back to her own lunch table. She so did not like what she was going to do. And she knew that Tara was oblivious to the fact.
"That was strange." Willow watched her walk off. "But I haven't really had a lot of time with Xander lately. I mean hospital and all. And it's been pretty much just you and me. Just the way that I like it."
"You know that I feel the same way." Tara squeezed her hand. Things felt so good. They felt so right. And that again was a rarity in the young blond's life.
She was just waiting to see what would come of things. Was there something lurking out there? Or was it just that she had had so much pain in her life that when things got good, she expected the bad. Like a lot of people do.
