Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Sequel to Static
A chilling gust of wind blew through the deserted parking lot as two people in a car slowly got busy with each other. The windows fogged slightly as the boy with red brown hair and a girl with long black hair kissed. Out of nowhere three vampires jumped on the car scaring the girl as the boy looked onward. One broke through the window and reached for the couple, but was caught off guard as a net flew over him and stunned him.
Another boy with shaggy brown hair shot the gun and stunned the other, leaving one. But because of the makeshift ness of the guns it stuck and refuses to shoot, leaving him powerless. The last vampire stalked close to the boy and hissed. Just then another vampire jumped over the roof of the car, taking down the other vampire and killed it easily.
~~~~
The boy in the car climbed out and dusted off his jacket.
"Pete! I am sick of being bate!" Andy yelled as Patrick and Joe let down their guns.
I rolled my eyes as I watched from my safe point on a roof close to the parking lot. This was what I did on days when I was bored and had nothing special to do.
"Wow, how...put together." I smirked as I jumped down and walked over to the bodies.
"Just do what you came here to do." Pete said slightly annoyed.
I just rolled my eyes again and pushed him away, pulled out a small bottle of holy water and sprinkled it on the three bodies. They smoked and turned to dust.
"Nice one." Patrick said looking at the three piles of dirt, "Now what?"
"Now we leave and pretend nothing happened." Pete said solemnly turning and going back to Joe's beat Caddy. I nodded and followed him; Patrick followed me and grabbed my hand.
"Is something wrong, you seem distracted?" He whispered in my ear so the others wouldn't hear, they always worried when something was bothering me.
I swallowed hard and smiled. "Never better." How wrong could I have been?
We got in the back along with Andy, of course just like old times I sat on Patrick's lap. As he sighed and pulled me closer to him I thought back to everything. It was only a year ago that I was kidnapped and informed that I was the only surviving true Innocent. And that with my help Pete could go back to normal if I defeated Beckett, the vampire ruler. I was barely even allowed to look like I did before, because Pete thought people would notice if I had bright red hair and grey green eyes. I refused any drastic changes, like haircuts or skin tone changes.
But, he made me change my look anyway and often wouldn't even allow me to be alone for more than a few hours. Yeah, I know he was just doing what he thought was right, but it was almost suffocating. There was something eating at me though, something I knew none of them would completely understand. I had been a Static all my life, but now my power seemed drained. My eyes would often go static if I showed any powerful emotion for very long. Now they hardly even did. Or when they did powerful emotions would follow.
When I sensed that my eyes were about to go static I would shut myself in a room and wait for the episode to end. I remember one time when Andy walked in on one of my episodes. He comforted me and told me if it ever happen again to tell me and he would take care of it. I trusted him and now when I felt like something was going to happen I would give him my warning look and he would divert attention.
I felt Patrick poke at my sides and play with my belt loops. I smiled and reached for his hand. We had been official for quite a while and everyone knew. Some were happy, others didn't approve. Many of the Static elders thought I should be joining with another ruler, or maybe even a king. But I was quite happy with my Patrick.
Joe pulled up in front of the bunker and killed the engine. Pete got out first and looked around for anything that was out of place. He always said now that people knew it was my destiny to take down Beckett, some of his followers would do anything to stop me, even murder. He nodded to Joe who nodded to Andy. They got out and did a quick search for anything Pete missed. Finally, Andy nodded to Patrick, who got out and did his search. This honestly about ten minutes to get out of the car. After a while Patrick opened the door again and let me out.
"Do you really have to do this every time we get home?" I asked Pete walking up to him.
"Yes, of course." He nodded.
He laughed and kept walking but something caught my attention. There was a scraping sound and footsteps, it was soft barely enough for even me to hear. I stopped turned toward the noise. It was coming form the alley way. I cocked my head and walked toward the noise. Joe noticed me and walked up to me.
"Alex, what do you hear?" He asked seriously
"I don't know; its coming form over there." I pointed at the alley.
He looked over and turned me back to the bunker.
"Patrick take her with you, Pete come here."
Patrick nodded and led me into the bunker, sat me down and looked straight into my eyes.
"Alex, I know something is wrong; please tell me." He sounded upset.
I shook my head and sighed. "I just heard something."
"Is it your static?" He glanced around, almost checking to see if anyone was around. "If it's your static please let me know."
"No, it's just a cold." I lied badly. But he accepted it and got up.
"If there anything you need just tell me." He said and kissed me. "It's getting light out; I'd better tell Pete before he bursts into flame."
I laughed and went to my room I used to shut myself in when an episode turned up. Of course it was once the prettiest room in the bunker, the tower. The tower was basically a room with glass windows on all sides. I found it shortly after defeating so-called Beckett.
I bit my lip. I hated lying to him, he was someone I truly cared about and I didn't want to hurt him.
I yawned wide and stretched. Even though I had only been awake for a few hours I was already tired. But that's how it was an awful lot lately. Maybe it was because I was losing my power. I just prayed it wasn't.
I went to the tower. The tower was a hidden part of the bunker that stuck up out of the ground, but mortals couldn't see it. Pete had given it to me on the off chance I would practice tuning my senses and sharpening my already acute skills. The windows of the tower had broken out because of me practicing in it. Now it was just a place I went static and knew no one would intrude if I went in there alone.
I flopped down in one of the dilapidated chairs and closed my eyes. Sometimes I wish they would go static, even for a little while.
The pale blue moon hung lazily in the sky as I glanced out one of the many broken windows. I laughed at the thought of how the moon was now the sun for me. I hadn't seen the sun in over six months. When I last saw it I was walking out on the streets and lost track of time. When I noticed the sun rising over the horizon I couldn't help but start crying hysterically. It was that powerful of a thing for me.
Pete knocked on the door and slowly opened it. He looked almost scared, something that was very rare.
"There's someone here to see you." He sounded serious. "She claims to be your aunt."
"What?" I blurted out getting up and running to the window.
Sure enough a woman in a long cloak stood at the doorway looking around every few seconds. Her hair was tied back in a bun and she had sharp angles to her face.
"Should I let her in?" He asked looking out the window at her.
"Yeah, tell her I'll be down in a few minutes." I nodded and turned back.
He left and I heard them talking, her voice was as sharp as her features.
I sighed, brushed my hair and looked at my reflection; I never really liked the way I looked. Now I was self-conscious about the scar that ran half the length of my cheek. I shook my hair out of my face and looked at my static-less eyes. They used to have a spark to them, now they just looked tired and boring.
"Oh well." I said turning back to the door and walking down the hall and down the creaky steps.
When the women heard me walking down the steps she looked up and smiled.
"Is that me little niece?" She said getting up and hugging me tightly.
"That depends on who your niece is?" I said almost being choked.
"Alexandra, daughter of Queen Alanala and King Tristan, and soon to be ruler of the Statics." She nodded.
"How do you know that?" I asked astonished.
"Alex, I'm your aunt Isabelle." She smiled and sighed.
My memory had partially came back a few months ago; I stared at her and squealed. "Aunt Is!"
I hugged her tightly and almost started crying.
"Yes, Aunt Is is here." She cooed stroking my hair and shushing me.
"How did you find me?" I asked after the whole episode quieted down.
"I work at the palace, being a Static and sister of the past rulers." She continued after she sipped her tea. "I heard them say they found you and need someone to come get you."
"Come get me?"
"You can't possibly think you can rule an empire from this dump, can you?" She scoffed.
"This dump happens to be my home." I spat angrily.
"I'm sorry, but I'm so used to living in a palace."
"So you came...because?" I asked.
"To take you away from here."
"What do you mean?" I laughed nervously looking out into the kitchen to see Andy, Joe, and Patrick peeking out from behind the wall.
"I've come to take you back to your home."
"No, Is, this is my home." I protested.
"Alexandra Corrine! You are coming to the palace and that's final!"
"NO, you can't make me!" I screamed jumping up and running out into the kitchen.
Is got up and followed me. She grabbed my arm with so much force she whipped me around and slapped my face.
"Only a few years away from home and you're already lost all respect for your elders." She shook her head and sighed. "I'm quite ashamed."
"I'm not going with you." I said defiantly.
"You have no choice." She smirks. Spunky for someone who's probably 50, ehh?
"This is my home, Is, please don't take it away form me." I pleaded lightly.
"You don't have a home here." She looked angrily at the others. "They're not your family."
"But they care about me and love me." I felt tears. "They took care of me when no one else would, they gave me hope and they gave me a home."
She looked shocked and looked at the others, they were nodding and Patrick gave me a warm hug.
"Without them I'd be dead." I grabbed his hand and looked at Is. She smiled and sighed.
"Ok, how about this, they come with us." She looked for approval.
I shrugged and looked at the others. They gave me reassuring nods and smiled.
"I guess we're going to the palace."
