Gunn remembered the evening so well. It was already over a month ago and seemed so far away but was still so fresh in his memory. That evening of opera and dinner with the fair Fred.
Nothing had come of it, yet. She had gone back to his best friend, her fiancé. As it really should be. If the man were truly honest with himself, he would just admit that the two were really in love and that he should just let them find the happiness that was so short in the world.
But he just could not help himself. He loved the woman as well. Whether it was right or not was another thing. Another thing that he was not going to let get in the way. Selfish? Perhaps. But he had not had much happiness in his life.
The young man wandered down the quiet halls of Sunnydale High. Classes were just about to let out for the day and this was a prime time to find those that weren't supposed to be hanging out in the halls.
The quiet gave him time to think. It gave him time to plan. For even though he knew in his head that he should just leave Fred alone, he just could not turn off his heart and the love that flowed for the woman.
Sighing heavily, he made his way to the library. He just had to sneak a peak at her. Just seeing her made his heart melt. And that was something that no woman had ever been able to do. Things were so different with her.
The sight inside had made him wish that he had never taken the time to walk there. For there she was, the woman that he loved, in the arms of her fiance. And again, it was her right to be there. It was his arms that were actually of the wrong.
Gunn didn't make a sound as he turned quickly on his heels. He had to get away from that sight. He just could not take that scene. And it made him even more want to get between them. Show her what a real man was all about.

Cordelia had heard the rumors. She knew it was true that Anya and Tara were half sisters. But she heard the other rumors. That there was definitely more to the story then just all of a sudden they realized that they were sisters.
But she chose to ignore it. She had been away for way too long as it was. Her father had had some kind of emergency business deal and had made the whole family go with them. It was so lame. And now she had so much school work to catch up on.
But what she really had missed was Doyle. They had just really started getting together before her jerk off dad had made her go on an unwanted sabbatical. Figures. And of course there was all that was still going on with her friends. She had managed to keep in touch with Faith of all people and she had kept her up on all the drama.
Drama was an understatement. It seemed that the halls of Sunnydale High were like some teen show. Only even worse then that. So far this year, they'd had one death, five different teens hurt seriously, and now the rumor going round was that Buffy had tried to kill herself.
It was something that she didn't want to believe but realized that it could very well be true. So many things had already happened that she never thought would. And that was her falling for Doyle.
The bell rang and she took off. She had only seen him once that day, her first day back. And it wasn't the kind of seeing that she had wanted. They had yet to even kiss, they weren't at that stage. But she wanted to take it there.
And there he was, smiling brightly at her. It was as if without saying so, they had planned to meet at his locker so that they could take full advantage of the lip lock. Or was there another reason.
"Hey." Cordelia made her way to lean on the locker next to his. "Missed you."
The smile grew even larger. "I missed you even more." He took her hand in his own and gave it a gentle squeeze.
Cordelia suddenly remembered something. Something that she had promised to do before, but they had never gotten around to doing yet. Now was that time. "I think that it's long overdue that we have dinner with your moms. If you still want to that is. I mean, I'd really like to."
Doyle chuckled softly. "Hmm. I guess then you are expecting more out of this then just getting back at Angel then."
"What?" Cordelia stood back up. "Where'd that come from? I thought we were past all that stupidity of mine trying to use you to make him jealous."
The young man shrugged. The smile faded. "I wasn't quite so sure. But I was hoping." He turned and started to get into his locker. Slowly, he pulled out some books.
"I..." Cordelia trailed off. Then it hit her. "You are such a brat sometimes."
Doyle smiled big as he turned around. "Took you long enough to see that I was just joking. You know that I do so love to tease you my love."
Cordelia's heart about jumped out of her chest. 'My love' she could not help to think to herself. Did he really just say that? "You know that you can get me almost every time. Oh well. Just means I get to get you back. And I'm so loving it." She turned and started walking towards the front doors.
It didn't take long for Doyle to catch up to her. "Get me back, eh? I don't know if I like the sounds of that. Oh well. So, when do you want to do this shin dig thing?"
"As soon as you want." Cordelia put her arm through his. They just walked in silence. Their company being enough for the other. It was just a wonderful feeling to be in their presence.

There would be a scar. Buffy pulled up the sleeve of her long sleeve shirt. There would definitely be a scar. Kind of like the scars that she would always have on the inside. Ones that no one could ever see. But she would know that they were there.
But unlike the day about a week ago that this had taken place, she didn't feel angry. She didn't feel sad. She didn't feel like there was no hope left. And the pain was no longer overwhelming for her. It was now something that she could easily handle. But she learned one thing. She could and would not handle it all alone.
She had friends for one. And no matter how busy their lives were, she knew that they would always take time for her. Just like she would always take time for them. That's what being a friend was all about.
And of course, she had her mother. They had grown so distant while she was not willing to deal with the pain. When she had shoved it so deep inside of herself that it had exploded again. But she knew that her mother would always be there for her. And because of 'the incident', they were now to have a night set aside each week that was for mother/daughter time. Even if that just meant the two of them having dinner together.
The best part was that Spike was back in her life. Again, she should never have shut him out. For besides her mother, he was the one that wanted to be there for her the most. No matter what was going on, she knew that he was there for him.
Buffy sighed as she thought back to her stupidity. Was that just the suicide attempt? No. It was what all had lead to it. Pain. And not dealing. And shutting herself off from all those that cared for her. But again, she had learned her lessen.
And she had learned something else. She learned that if she could let go of the past, the pain, the anger, then she could focus on the present and the future. And that was saying a heck of a lot. That was saying that she once again had hope.
The blond smiled as she heard the sound. She heard that familiar roar of a certain bleach blond's motorcycle as he made his way from the student parking lot to the front of the school to pick her up so that she didn't have to walk.
He came to a screeching halt. He lifted up the shield and smiled brightly at her. "So, you interested in a ride my pet?"
Buffy laughed. "Only with you and no one else. Where we off to this time?" She had to wonder. Spike had been taking her to various places every day of the week so far since they had gotten back together.
"Wherever you want to go, my pet." Spike helped her on the back of the motorcycle and handed her her helmet. "I was thinking maybe we could stay in and rent some movies. Maybe even spend time with your mom if that is what you would like."
That brought a bright smile to her face. "Mom would probably like that. Why don't we for a change." So, the once again loving couple sped off towards Buffy's house for an evening of just being together for once."""

Tara felt all alone. It had been like this for the past week. Willow and she no longer met in the library in the mornings. And the two of them ate in silence at lunch. And when they were at home together, it was like they were in different worlds. It seemed that her girl was having some serious problems with all of this.
Not that the blond could blame her. It was huge what she had neglected to tell her. Was it unforgivable? Probably not. But it would take quite a while for the other woman to forgive her. And Tara vowed that she would wait forever for that day to come.
She had asked permission from Giles to call her brother. She wanted to keep it short. She didn't want to run up the man's phone bill. He was already being generous with her. After all, how many would take in a strange young woman. Especially one that was girlfriend's with his niece.
So, she took the cordless phone up to her shared room with Willow and out on to the balcony. The air was still quite clear and crisp. Winter wasn't that bad in California, but it could still get quite cold. And today seemed to be even colder then usual. But some of that might have to do with the fact that her everything was giving her the cold shoulder.
It took a few rings for him to answer. "Hello?" His voice sounded so wonderful but also so distant.
"Hey big brother." Tara smiled as his voice instantly warmed her through and through. "So how's army life treating you?"
"Pretty well." There was a sigh on the other end. "I know that tone of voice. What's up? Something wrong with Anya? Still having trouble letting it sink in that you aren't my only baby sister you know."
"Yeah, that is a big one to accept." Tara took a deep breath. "She's fine, for the moment. But she might get into a bad spot. She told me yesterday that she was gonna tell Xander the whole truth. Even though she knows how badly things went between me and Willow when I told her."
"Ah." Donny's voice got serious. "So that's why you are calling me. You and Willow still haven't gotten back on track. What is up with that girl? She can't see what a good person you are and that you were just trying to watch out for your sister?"
Now Tara sighed. "I think she sees that. All of that. It's just hard for her because we said that we could tell each other anything. And I was the first to not be completely honest with her. I know in my heart that she'll come around. It's just that stupid head of mine that gives me doubts."
"You always did think to much. You brainiac you." Donny chuckled. "Listen, I have leave coming to me. I didn't take it during Christmas cause I wanted to save it for your birthday. So I'll be home for that. We can talk more and I can be there for you in person. Cause that is what I really want to do."
"I'd like that." One more sighed escaped the blond. "I just hope that there will be a party for me. At least one that Willow will attend."

Willow walked alone. She really still shouldn't be alone yet. But her uncle had splurged on a cell phone so she wasn't too worried if something should happen she could always call for help. She just needed time alone.
She couldn't believe that she had stayed this mad at her girl for this long. She had never really done that before. But something was just eating away at her. And she didn't like it. All she wanted was to be in their shared room and snuggling. But something held her back. What exactly was it?
It hit her like a ton of bricks. It was her damn pride that was getting in the way. She was too proud to admit that she had overreacted. Not that she had reacted badly actually. She had just held on to it for way too long.
Every couple was going to have fights. And every couple was going to have to endure rough waters. This was just the first of the waves to rock their boat. So why couldn't she let the waters calm themselves?
Again, she didn't want to admit to having done anything wrong herself. She should have known how hard it was for Tara to keep this big secret from her. And that she never would have if it hadn't meant so much to Anya. And it wasn't like she was choosing Anya over her.
Willow smiled for the first time in what seemed like forever. She was finally ready to forgive her girl. And, maybe more importantly, forgive herself. Cause it was her stupidity that had really caused the rift to go on for as long as it had.
Her mind began racing with ways to make it up to her everything. There were presents she could buy. After all, a certain blond's birthday wasn't that far off. And then there would be one heck of a celebration.
But that was still a little ways off. There had to be some way that she could make it up to her girl. And that's when it hit her. She would wait to this weekend when she would have all day to set it up.
More of a smile grew on her face. This was exactly the right thing for her to do. And it would show her girl exactly how much that she loved her. She just hoped that the weekend would not take that long to get here.
For time was gonna drag. And she would want to do make it a total surprise. And that would mean playing that she was still mad at her girl and not kissing her or holding her hand. Or even just simply talking with her.
That was definitely a part of the plan that she did not like one bit. But to give her girl the surprise of her life, she would do anything. Even pretend that she was still mad at her. Just to see her hopefully happy once again in the end.
