"Buffy, can we talk?" Joyce Summers had been busy getting ready for work. Neither she or her daughter had that much time before they had to be on their way. But she knew now was a good time. For her daughter had been spending all of her time with her boyfriend. Which, she actually didn't mind. He seemed to be a good influence on her.
"K Mom, but you know neither of us have much time." Buffy sat at the little nook in their kitchen eating the remains of a bowl of cereal and downing a glass of orange juice.
Joyce walked into the kitchen, putting on her second earring. "We should really wait till later so that I can go into more detail. But you haven't exactly been here girl have you."
"Here girl?" Buffy could not help but laughing at her mother's choice of words. "Hanging around me and my friends too much I think. But you are right. I've been spending a lot of time with my friends. Well, mostly with Spike." She put her glass of orange juice down. "What's up?"
"Well, something happened Saturday night at Tara's birthday party." Joyce sat down next to her daughter. "Something afterwards actually. Something that I so had not been expecting. And I think you need to know about it as well."
"OK." Buffy eyed her mom. "You are making this sound like dire or something. Like life and death or something. It can't be that bad, now can it?"
"You know that I don't like you joking bout that." Joyce's voice got sad. The recent events of late were still too fresh in her mind. Twice in the past month she had nearly lost her daughter. Once because of her exhusband and once because of the hand of her own daughter.
Buffy held up her hands. "Sorry. Just trying to lighten the mood and all. You sound so serious. This is really starting to freak me out. What is up, Mom?"
Joyce smiled a little. "It's actually of the good. Well, for me it's of the good. Rupert Giles asked me out after the dance. And I've accepted. We are going on our first date Friday night."
"What?" Buffy stood up quickly. "What the hell?" The young woman shook her head. "Willow's uncle? And he's still dating Miss Calendar isn't he?"
"Well, apparently they've hit quite a rough patch." Joyce shrugged her shoulders. "I don't like the thought of possibly seeing Miss Calendar hurt. But I also want to see Rupert happy. I've had feelings for him for sometime now."
"Feelings? And sometime?" Buffy seemed to be getting angrier by the second. "Why am I just finding out about this now? I'm your daughter. Don't I have a right to know if I may have a new stepfather anytime soon?"
"Stepfather?" Joyce stood and faced her daughter. "Honey, it's just a date. And feelings don't always lead to the fact that you want to marry someone. It's just getting to know one another, that's all."
"Right." Buffy shook her head. "And that's why you've kept this to yourself for so long. I'm gonna be late for school. I'll see you later."
Before Joyce could respond, Buffy had already stormed out the door. She shook her head and sighed heavily. That went swimmingly. And now she had to suffer with a long day at the gallery. But at least she still had going out with Rupert to look forward to.

It felt so good to be in their place once again. The library on a school morning. It had been so long since the two young women had sat there supposedly studying.
Studying was usually the farthest thing from their minds though. Holding hands and kissing and the whole make out thing seemed to be up their alley as of late. Not that they didn't study and talk. But the kissage was quite good as well.
And Willow as not about to take a second for granted. She knew how easily that the two of them could have not found their way back to one another. And she was not about to let that happen ever again.
It was quiet in the library. Not that libraries were loud, but this Monday morning seemed to be even quieter then usual. Willow took a second to look around her. Fred was nowhere to be seen. Neither was her uncle. That could be the reason for the extreme silentude.
Tara looked at her girlfriend. "Where are you?"
"Hmmm?" Willow turned and instantly got lost in that sea of blue. "I was just thinking how quiet it was. And I noticed that Fred and Uncle Giles aren't here this morning. That's all."
"So, I can't keep your interest anymore." Tara sighed heavily. "I knew that the mystery would go out of our relationship. I just didn't think that it would be that soon."
Willow looked at her girlfriend, a look of shock on her face. "It's not that. I didn't mean to..." Now a panic was setting in. "I really just meant that it was too..." She was interrupted by the giggles of her girlfriend. The redhead let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "You brat. I can't believe you let me think that." She began tickling her girl relentlessly. "You give?"
"Never!" Tara began tickling her back. Soon they were both rolling on the floor laughing harder then either ever had in their lives. Finally, Tara breathlessly said, "I give. I give. I gotta catch my breath."
At that moment, the double doors to the library swung open. A familiar dark haired girl waltzed inside. "So, this is what high schoolers do. They torture each other and end up on the floor. That's so cool."
"Hey Dawny." Willow was still breathing hard as she managed to get up. She quickly help her girlfriend up as well. The two returned to their seats. "Where's your dad?"
"He's talking to Snideman. He had to clear it with him for me to stay for the day." Dawn came and sat down at the same table as her cousin and her cousin's girlfriend. "What's up for you two? I'm supposed to attend classes with one of you two."
Willow looked at Tara. And the blond knew that look. She knew it all so well. The blond knew that her girlfriend wasn't as found of her new little cousin as she let on. And spending the day with her was not the most appealing thing.
"Well, I've got English first period. But so does Willow." Tara took her girlfriend's hand in her own. "Why don't you hang around me. I don't have the brainy type classes that your cousin has. Advanced classes my girl has. I just can't keep up with her that's for sure."
"I was hoping to spend the day with you Willow." Dawn's eyes got those pleading innocent ones that the redhead had learned already. And it usually got her what she wanted.
"You were?" Willow wasn't really surprised by this. She already knew that her little cousin looked up to her a great deal. That they had this connection if she let it be there.
"Of course!" Dawn stood up and gave the redhead a hug. "Dad is so right in saying that you are such a good influence. I think I can learn a lot from you."
"I'm just a book smart, computer nerd." Willow sighed heavily. "And I got tortured all through middle school and have so far in high school. If it weren't for my select few friends that don't care about stereotypes, I still wouldn't have friends. I'd be all alone."
"I think you are being too hard on yourself." Dawn shrugged. "I've seen all your cool friends. And that was an awesome party that you threw for Tara. You are like the bestest friend anyone could ever have. And the best girlfriend."
Willow blushed at the last statement. "Not always the best. I've made some big time mistakes. But I've also learned from them." The redhead eyed her cousin for a moment. "I get the feeling that there is more to this almost worshiping sound you have today."
Dawn looked worried for a moment. But then she let out this huge sigh. "All right, you so busted me." She began twiddling her thumbs. "Look. There aren't many other seventh graders who are thinking the way that I am."
"And that is?" Willow eyed her cousin carefully. She could swear she knew where this was going. And it wasn't exactly what she had been expecting. But she could now understand why Dawn so looked up to her.
"I need someone to talk to." There were those pleading doe eyes of the teen. "And you two, well are the only ones that I know. And are great people over all. That's why I so want to talk to you. Bout feelings I've been having. You know, I think I'm attracted to girls."
"Hello all." Giles made his way through the swinging double doors and over to the table. "Good news. I've cleared the way so that Dawn can indeed spend the day. Any objections?" Willow and Tara just shot each other a look.
"K Mom, but you know neither of us have much time." Buffy sat at the little nook in their kitchen eating the remains of a bowl of cereal and downing a glass of orange juice.

Donny sat out in the familiar place that he had only spent a short time at. After all it was just this year alone that he and his family had moved back to the lovely little town of Sunnydale. And that's when all hell had broken loose.
But also it was the time that he had grown up and realized what a jerk he had been. It was about time that he learned that he couldn't treat others any way that he wanted to. Especially his own little sister.
Something he would always be grateful for. Whether it was the town or just the way that things were meant to happen, he would be eternally grateful for the changes that he had been through the past few months.
That's when the young soldier heard shouts. He quickly made his way to the front of the school. He was certain that he recognized the female one. As soon as the two that were arguing came into view, he was right. Cordelia and Doyle were having quite the little tiff going.
Donny made his way quickly over to the fighting pair. Cordelia stood with her head slumped down at the moment. "Is there something I can help with?"
"You soldier boy need to back the hell off." Doyle took a step towards the young soldier. Cordelia quickly stepped between the two young men. "Protecting your little lover I see."
"Excuse me?" Donny looked over Cordelia's shoulders. "I'm what?" He took a couple steps back. He could see how upset this was making Cordelia. He didn't want his newfound friend getting anymore hurt then it appeared she was already.
"You heard me soldier boy." Doyle took another step towards him. But Cordelia kept him held back. "I saw you two at your sister's part. You two were quite intense when I cut in."
"We were just talking." Cordelia's voice was quiet now. She looked at Donny with a pleading in her eyes. "Just like I've told you a million times this weekend. Nothing happened or was gonna happen. We are just friends."
Donny nodded. "She's right man. I have no designs on your girl. It was just that I had no one else to talk to that night. And we were able to reminisce about how screwed up I was and how different she was back when."
"Right." Doyle pointed his finger at Donny. "You soldier boy are just lucky that you are gonna be gone after this weekend. Otherwise I would have trashed you." Doyle turned and stormed off without even thinking of Cordelia.
"Sorry bout that." Cordelia's voice was quiet and weak. Not like Donny was used to hearing. "He usually isn't like this. I don't know what his deal is."
"Doesn't matter. He was now." Donny came up and put his arm around her. "This probably doesn't look good to him, but I don't give a rat's ass. He hurt you. And you need someone you know that you can count on."
Cordelia looked up at the older man. "You still want to be friends with me?"
"For goodness sake, what did he do to you this weekend?" Donny brought her into a hug. "I will always be there if only for a friend. You have got to let him go if he's gonna treat you like this."
Sighing, Cordelia returned the hug. "Maybe." And Donny, with that one word, hated Doyle with a passion he never thought he'd hate anyone with.
