Spike and Angel sat out in the student parking lot. It was after school and an uneventful day had occurred. That was saying something in their young lives. For everyday seemed to see something happen inside or outside the halls of Sunnydale High.
Of course, neither had seen their girls. Buffy had gone back to hiding. At least, that's what Spike had thought. He had checked and she had not come into school today. Where she had gotten herself, that was anyone's guess.
As far as Darla, she had been to see her grandfather. He was in a Veteran's hospital just a few miles outside of town. It had been grandchildren's day and Angel knew that his girl wanted to be there more then anything.
So, the two brothers sat in the parking lot just as school was getting out. They hadn't really talked much since they'd nearly come to blows over the fact that Angel had reverted to being a jerk. But now, again, he was being the good guy that the younger brother knew he could be. Perhaps never live up to his name, but still be an all around good guy.
Spike looked at his big brother. It was something that needed saying between the two of them. Something that had to do with their futures. Since both had been gunned down, it had activated the little file that they had accumulated on their father. There was now the courts that they had to deal with.
But the bigger question for both young men was what they were going to do to survive. All their money and even the car that they were sitting in were going to be taken away. Spike had paid with his own money for the motorcycle. Thank goodness he had that job for a bit.
"We're both gonna have to get a job." Spike broke the long silence between them. "You know that mom really doesn't want anything to do with us. I know that she left because of what Dad was into. But she also made it perfectly clear that she was too good to be bothered with raising two sons."
Angel nodded absently. "Yeah." He sighed heavily. "Who knew that at sixteen and seventeen that we would have to have our futures planned out."
"And you'll be eighteen in a month and graduating soon." Spike looked over at his big brother. "An official adult as the old saying goes." Angel just nodded absently again. "I do have one question for you big brother."
This made Angel turned to look at his younger sibling. "And what is that?"
"We'll always be there for each other, right?" Spike's eyes had a pleading to them that Angel had never before seen. It was something he wasn't necessarily liking either.
"We'll have our conflicts I'm sure." Angel sighed heavily. "But if you mean that we'll always help each other out, you know that we will. Like now." Angel smiled big at his little brother. "We'll make sure that we have a roof over our heads and food on the table. We'll provide for one another. Somehow."
Spike nodded in agreement. "Yeah. Somehow." But at that moment, neither sibling was quite sure of how that would work. They were very much at a loss on what their futures held for each of them.

Donny watched as Cordelia walked by. She looked as if she were trying to cover something up. Or maybe that was his imagination. After all, he had witnessed what had happened between her and Doyle. And he had heard the threats against himself which were quite silly really.
It must be his imagination working overtime. Now that he realized what the jerk he had been and how much he wanted to make up for that time, he had really become protective of people. Especially those that he had feelings for.
That realization shocked him quite a bit. He had feelings for Cordelia Chase? That was something very new for the young man. He was used to caring for noone but himself. And now, he was trying to get used to taking care of not one, but two little sisters. That was something else as well.
"She's actually quite the good person." Anya's voice startled her big brother noticeably. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. Just saw you sitting here alone and thought I'd say hi. We don't have much time left till you get shipped back out."
Donny smiled a little. "No problem. And we haven't had much time to just talk. Well, not the two of us. Someone else is usually around. So, you and me alone time is quite nice. And I have no idea what you are talking about."
Anya sat down next to her brother. "Of course you don't. What is it? Do all males have to plead ignorant of the fact that they were so checking out the female form. Xander does it all the time. I told him look all you want. But if you touch, he'll have to deal with me."
"That would be enough to keep him quite in line I'm sure." Anya playfully smacked her brother on the arm. Quickly, Donny put up his hands. "You win! No need to try and abuse me. I won't put up a fight you know."
"You know that I would win." Anya chuckled softly. "So what is the use of putting up a fight?" She quickly became serious again. "But you know, I think you and Cordelia could be a good thing. It could work."
Donny shook his head. "It could if I were around. I have to go back. No delaying it. And besides, she's what four years younger then me. That's quite a bit right now."
"Yes." Anya nodded. "When you are in high school age does make a difference. But someday, you both will be out in the real world. And a relationship that is started now can have paved the way for a long and lasting one. And I still say that she is a good person. And that she would be lucky to have you."
Donny sighed heavily. "I thank you lil sis for the confidence and all. But I think for now that I just need to keep single. I've got you and Tara to keep me going. That's enough."
"Is it?" Anya looked at him, a small smile on his face. "Well, just keep in mind what I said. You could do worse. And she could do no better. Stay friends for now. But remember something for future reference."
"And what is that?" Donny looked at her with a curiosity.
"That feelings like you have for her don't go away that easily." Without another word, Anya got up and started walking toward a waiting Xander. Donny smiled to himself. One thing he liked about his sister, she always said what was on her mind. And it was usually the truth. She could see things better then most.

One Miss Jenny Calendar stood outside of the library. She was debating whether or not she should go in. Giles had been cold to her at Tara's party. And that was not like him. Maybe he just needed to punish her. For she had held something back and he had pretty much been accepting right away. But she had needed more time then he had.
So she was to be punished for the fact that she needed more time then he had. She sighed heavily. Not knowing what to do, she began leaning against the wall with her eyes closed. A voice startled her out of her thoughts.
"You all right Miss Calendar?" One Fred Burkle stood there with a bit of a concerned look on her face.
"I've been better Fred." Jenny smiled big at the younger woman. "You can call me Jenny."
"Thank you." Fred looked at the older woman. "Something really seems to be bothering you. I know we're not close and all but I also know that everyone needs someone to talk to. I'd be honored if that someone was me in your case."
"You sure do know how to make a woman feel good." Jenny smiled big. "Would you like a cup of coffee? My treat?" Fred nodded in agreement.
It wasn't long before both women sat in The Java Connection. Both had their hot drinks in front of them. Both women sat in an uncomfortable silence for several minutes.
"I might as well be the one to start." Fred blushed a little. "It's just I'm not so used to being so bold. And I really don't have any friends. Only my fiancé and his little sister."
"That's too bad." Jenny quickly spoke again. "I mean about the friends. I think that you are an amazing young woman."
"Thanks." Fred blushed even more. "I've been trying to get more confident. But it's taking a lot. But enough about me. We came here because you looked like you were going through something. Anything I can help with?"
"I'm afraid I'm the only one that can get myself out of where I am." Jenny sighed heavily. "I've messed things up with Rupert and I'm not sure how to fix them."
"There's always a way." Fred eyed the older woman. "You just have to want something enough. That's all I can say. You have to want something enough and then make it happen. I didn't really do that with Wesley and we almost didn't connect. Thankfully we did and have managed to overcome our own obstacles."
"I hear you." Jenny again sighed. "I just wish that I knew Rupert still wanted me or not. Or, if he's moved on." And suddenly, she knew. Without asking. She knew. Not that it was too late. But that he already had moved on. And that she would have to work hard to get her man back. But at least she now had a friend. Something she hadn't had either."""

Willow had survived her day with her cousin. And managed to avoid the questions. The ones that were about how one knew. For she didn't feel she was ready to be a role model to a twelve year old. Or that Dawn was really asking her because those were her feelings.
She and Tara sat alone in their bedroom. The young blond was at the desk, she was laying on the bed. Both had books scattered about them. But neither was really studying. They were both thinking of what the younger girl had implied.
Tara swivelled around in her chair. "You don't think Dawn was telling the truth, do you?"
Willow looked up at her girl. "You know that I don't. I'm just wondering exactly what it is that she is up to. And before you say anything, I know how I've been since she's been around. Thinking something is up with her. I don't know why I feel that way. Just a vibe I'm getting."
"You just want to protect your uncle, I think." Tara got up and made her way to the bed. She was now laying next to the redhead. "That and it is hard to trust someone new in your life. Even if they are supposed to be family."
This made the redhead sigh heavily. "Maybe. And the fact that I've now not spoken to my parents in how many months just because they couldn't accept the fact that I'm a little different from the norm. That could very well make a difference now couldn't it." She smiled sadly.
"You've learned that it's not easy to trust people." Tara took her hand in her own. "The girl I met at the beginning of the school year would just about trust anyone. But you've been through more then most people have been in a lifetime. So, let's just try and be there for Dawn."
"And if we suspect she's up to no good. Then what?" Willow sat up quickly. "We go to my uncle and say 'I'm sorry but your daughter seems to be a little deviant. And we think you should really keep an eye on her. Or she's gonna get you and everyone else in trouble?' Is that what we say?"
Tara sat up as well. "Don't be silly. We just go to him and tell him what she's been doing and saying. Let him take it from there. I don't want to see her in trouble."
"Even if she's the one causing it?" Willow smiled sadly.
"Will, you still don't know that." Tara squeezed her hand. "You don't know that there is anything more then the truth. That she is going through something huge. Like we've both been through. And that we can be there for."
"I guess." Willow again sighed heavily. But the redhead was just not so sure. Perhaps her cousin was being truthful. Perhaps not. Time would tell. But the consequences that were ahead. That's what was putting the fear into the redhead's heart. For all actions have consequences.
