When Davey got back to the hospital, he was told that Tyler was now conscious and had asked for him. He felt a lump form in his throat. He didnt know if in Tyler's eyes they were still together. But either way, he wasnt going to like the decision he had made. Now was a bad time to tell him, but he didnt want him to spend his entire recovery thinking that they were going to be together. Which was more cruel? Telling him when he was down, or building him up only to disappoint him? He hadn't been able to decide. But the time he'd spent with Litzy that day was just confirming that he'd made the right choice. Now more than ever, he wanted everything she had to offer.
He turned to head to Tyler's room and instinctively was taking Litzy along by the hand. She stopped him.
"I think me going in there would be a bad idea."
"You're right," he said, just standing there.
"Davey...do you love Tyler?" she asked, as though she were afraid to hear the answer.
He had to think for a moment to find a good way to explain it.
"I care about him. I mean, I care what happens to him and I want him to be happy. But that's not love."
She nodded, looking almost relieved.
He squeezed her hand and let it go.
"I'll be back."
She headed back to the waiting room and he walked into Tyler's room.
As soon as he saw Davey, his face lit up. He tried to smile, despite his injuries. It just broke Davey's heart.
"I am so sorry," he said, sitting in the chair at his bedside.
"Hey, it's not your fault."
"I just feel terrible. Is there anything I can do? Anything I can get you?"
"There's nothing I want but you," he said, putting his hand out for his.
Davey couldnt refuse, he took it. Tyler brought his hand to his face and sighed.
"I love you so much," he said.
He wanted to hide under his chair for fear that he'd see the truth.
"What's the matter?"
"Oh, nothing. Nothing. So when are they gonna let you out of this place?"
"Well, they say aside from my head trauma none of my injuries are severe enough to merit keeping me. I mean, the cuts, bruises and broken bones will have to heal with time. But they're gonna keep me for a few more days to monitor my head."
"This is all so fucked up."
"I know," he said. "Davey, I'm gonna need somewhere to go when I'm released. I was really hoping that I could stay at your place until this leg of the tour is over in a couple of weeks and you come home."
"Oh. Um, Tyler -"
"I think I would just be able to deal with it better if I were with you or, even if I couldnt be with you, if I knew I would be soon."
"Tyler...If I were to tell you that there were things about me you dont know and if you knew them you wouldnt feel the same about me...would you want me to tell you those things?"
"Yes," he said, without hesitation.
"No, maybe later, when you're better."
"No, Davey. Tell me now."
He took a deep breath and exhaled.
"Litzy didnt come visit because she had problems at work. She came because she's pregnant. And the baby is mine."
He looked shocked, disgusted, offended, hurt and then just plain livid. And that was only the first of things he had to tell him.
"How long?" he asked, flatly.
"What?"
"How long have you been fucking her?"
"It's only been a couple times."
"Was it while we were together?"
"No," he said, knowing he couldnt deal with any other answer.
"How could you?"
"I know, I should've told you..."
"No, I mean literally how could you fuck her?" he snapped. "I mean how are you even physically able to?"
Davey stared at his fingers in his lap, having no answer for that.
"So what does this mean for us?"
"Tyler, I care about you, but right now she needs me."
He was silent for a long time, then he spoke.
"Do you love her?" he asked, just as timidly as Litzy had asked the same question about him earlier.
Davey nodded, still avoiding eye contact.
"So you lied to me when I asked you if you liked boys, girls or both. You like both, but you told me you only liked boys."
"I guess I wasnt aware at the time that I liked girls."
"No, you like one girl in particular - that fat trashy girl who landed me in this hospital bed!"
"How is this her fault?"
"SHE ruined my night out with you! SHE started a fight and I went to that bar because YOU went to comfort her instead of ME! WELL NOW I KNOW WHY - SHE'S HAVING YOUR BABY!!"
"Please dont get upset, your body cant handle it right now," he pleaded.
"I'm not upset. I'm not upset at all. I mean, she only ruined my life and stole from me the only man I've ever loved," he said, starting to sob.
"Oh God, I am so sorry. Tyler, for what its worth I never meant to hurt you. I've been so confused since all of this started happening and my life's just been turned upside down and I didnt think of what this would do to you and I'm sorry."
"It doesnt matter. She'll pay."
"What are you talking about?"
"When I'm all healed and whole again I'm going to repay her in kind."
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm going to make sure Girl finds out what its like to be nearly beaten to death. I wonder how she'll like it."
"You don't mean that."
"Oh I mean it."
"You don't. You've been pumped full of painkillers and you're out of your mind."
"I should kill her," he said, as if the idea had just occurred.
"If anybody were to harm Litzy I would hurt them so bad it would make what you're going through now look like a walk in the park," he growled.
"You really do love her," he gasped, and started to cry again. "She has you and I have nobody!"
"You'll always have me as a friend. And Jade. And you have your sister, Erika."
"Oh yeah? Then where is she?"
"I'm sure she'll be here soon."
Tyler moaned, miserably. "They should've just finished me off."
"Dont say that," Davey said. "I'm gonna go find out where Erika is. I'll be right back."
"Dont knock up any fat nurses along the way," he called after him.
He went back to the waiting room to have Jade call Erika, but when he got there he could tell something was wrong. Everyone looked serious. Litzy was missing and Jade stood up with a somber look on his face.
"Bad news," he said.
He turned to head to Tyler's room and instinctively was taking Litzy along by the hand. She stopped him.
