Wesley and Fred walked along the dimly lit rode. It was quite late. Later then either of them had realized. With all the things going on in Sunnydale as of late, it was not a good thing to be out and a bout so late. Even if one was not alone, it was still not a very good idea to be out on the dark streets.
Wesley kept his arm tightly around his girl. It was only a few months away from their wedding. They had been to fittings and caterers the entire day. If it wasn't one thing, it was another for them to have to take care of. He had know idea that a wedding could be so tiresome. But in a good way.
Of course, he had been a bit distracted all day long. Faith had been gone all day and hadn't said where she was going. And with her real father, the not so good Ethan running around, he didn't like not knowing where she was. Especially with her still so involved in Willow's upcoming trial. She was too closely connected for his liking.
"You all right?" Fred asked for what seemed to be the millionth time. "You just seem so distracted today. The wedding not going the way that you want?"
"Oh no!" Wesley stopped in his tracks. He ran his hand along that smooth cheek of his fiancé. "It's just that I haven't heard from Faith in a couple days. And that's so unlike her. Just seems that she knows exactly how to get into a great deal of trouble. And I like to try and keep her out as best as I can."
"I know you do." Fred smiled at the man that had captured her heart. "It's one of the things that I love so much about you. The fact that you care so much about your little sister. I'm sure she's all right. You've always told me that she is quite capable of taking care of herself."
"She is." Wesley sighed heavily. "It's not that I'm worried that she can't take care of herself, I'm just worried what kind of trouble she had gotten herself into. She does have quite the temper and all. And if it has anything to do with Willow, well, let's just say I pity anyone that gets in her way."
"I know." The two started to slowly walk down the street. "I've never seen two people so close. It's really amazing that they are like that. It's nice to have someone that looks out for you and only you."
Wesley chuckled a bit. "Sorry that I am distracted. I know that tonight is our night and all but I guess the duties of a big brother never really end. Again, hope that that is all right with you dear. Besides, I can make it up to you when we get home."
"You'd better." Fred was giggling until she heard the scream. She watched in horror as Wesley took off without even thinking. "Don't!" But it was too late. He was already rounding the corner into the alley. So, she took off in a flash.
She wished she hadn't right away. For the alley was covered in blood. And there was a body there. Another woman it seemed had met her fate on a dark night in an alley in Sunnydale. Instantly, she felt ill to her stomach. She could barely feel Wesley take her in his arms and guide her out of the alley.
Wesley pulled out his cell phone and dialed the police. As soon as he heard they were on their way, he pulled her into a big hug. "I've never seen anything like that before. And to know the person is an even greater shock."
Fred could do nothing. She was in too big of a shock. She too had never seen a body like that. And with all that was going on, she couldn't help but think who was next. Could it be her? Could she end up just like Jenny Calendar and the other nameless women?
Angel sat and looked around him. It was a tiny apartment that he and Spike had managed to come up with. With hardly any money to speak of, the two were doing all right. They had a place to live and they always had something to eat. But something was missing for both of them.
And he knew what it was. It was love. For Spike, he had his love. And wouldn't give up on the fact that she was still alive. No matter what others in town might be saying. Or, he hated to admit, what his own big brother was thinking. The odds just didn't look good for his little brother's big love.
But he wouldn't give up hope. And that's part of why the two had become close. For the first time in their lives, they had opened their eyes and seen each other for who they really were. Something that in the past would never have happened. They were just like their father in that regard, superficial. Angel more then Spike.
Now, with knowing finally who he really was and how he really wanted to be, love just didn't seem to be out there for him. He had used Drusilla badly. And Cordelia was just someone that had been convenient at the time. The only love he had really ever known and knew was for real was that which he had for Darla.
But it was clear that nothing could ever be between them. Things had happened that neither of them could get over. They would always be good friends. And he would never stop looking for the man that had hurt his friend in a way that a woman should never be hurt. But that didn't mean that he loved her. Not if he really admitted it.
Sighing, he walked over to the sliding glass doors. There really wasn't a balcony. Just a metal fire escape. But he still opened the door and stepped out into the cool night air. It was cleansing, the air. It made his thoughts straighten out almost immediately. Not that there was much one could do force love. It had to happen naturally.
That's when he saw the light across the street blink on. He had never seen who lived in the apartment across from him. They were always gone when he was home. But tonight, he was up later then usual. Later then he should be with school and then a job to go to afterwards. But he just couldn't sleep with all the thoughts in his head.
And there she stood. The very sight of her took his breath away. He had never felt like this ever in his life. Not even when he had first seen Darla did he feel this way. Something was going on inside of him. Was this what people called love at first sight? If it was, he was really liking the feeling.
She was tall. She was blond. And she was amazing. Even without talking to her, he knew that. Anyone that looked like she did just had to be amazing. There was no doubt in his mind about that. And he knew that he had to meet her. He would find a way to find out exactly who she was if it was the last thing that he did.
The lights were out. Soon, he could see lights on in another part of the apartment. She was probably getting ready for bed. Like he really should be himself. But he just stared after her. He had already memorized her face, her entire being. He could eve imagine what she sounded like. It was a great feeling.
It took a bit, but Angel finally tore himself away from where he had seen the woman he knew he had to meet. He laid himself on his bed, a smile now on his face. He was in love. With a woman he had only seen once. Never heard speak. Never talked to. But he was I love. And with those thoughts, his mind drifted off into the land of dreams. And tonight, they were all pleasant for him.
There was a full moon out tonight. It had always made Tara think that there was something special about nights like this. The stories of werewolves and other things of the supernatural had always fascinated her. But tonight, the moon didn't fascinate her one bit. Her mind was elsewhere.
Willow stared up at the same full moon as Tara. She too had often wondered about the things that one could not explain. People said that the full moon made people do crazy things. Could that be why Tara did what she did? Could that be why her heart was aching so much that she could hardly breathe?
Tara turned to pick up the phone, but decided against it. She had left several messages for Willow hoping that she would return one of them. But it was already a day past the time that she had left those many messages. It wasn't like Willow not to call. It wasn't like Dawn or Giles to call if Willow wasn't able to call. That's what made her worry. What if something had happened while she was here?
Willow stared at the answering machine. That voice. The one that she had fallen in love with. So soft. So gentle. So amazing. Just like the woman that it belonged to. Not like the woman that had left her a letter breaking her very heart. And now, leaving these confusing messages. What was going on? Was Tara having second thoughts? What could it be?
It was well past midnight. As much as Tara would love to know what was going on, she knew that she needed to just leave things for the morning. Although, technically it was now morning. The full moon made the night light up nearly like it was daytime. And it distracted from all the not knowing. Not knowing if her sister was alive or not. Not knowing if Willow was all right. She now wondered if she should ever have come.
It was gonna be another sleepless night for the redhead. It was hard for her to not sleep next to Tara. She had become so used to that. But also, there were the bad dreams. Dreams of Tara hurting her. Dreams of Anya and Buffy. And dreams of Mr. MaClay. Nightmares would be more apt to describe them.
Tara laid back in bed. Though she knew that sleep would not come. She hadn't slept at all since she had left. Part of that was because her everything was not beside her. But mostly it was because of the thoughts that ran through her head. Constantly. Worrying. Not only about her love, but everyone. It didn't seem safe in Sunnydale anymore.
Willow sat up and looked at the clock. Why did time have to go so slow? It was like torture. Night after night. Day after day. She just went through the motions. Not really living at all. Just wondering what she did. What she said. What could have been done differently so that she had not pushed her away.
The blond propped herself up on her elbow. With the light flowing in from the opened window, she could see what she so longed to see in person. So longed to feel the softness of the skin and the silkiness of the red hair. It seemed that she had those feelings memorized, but it didn't matter. It wasn't like touching them for real.
Tears fell down her cheek as she looked at the picture. It was a picture of the her everything and her. It was taken at the dance. When everything had seemed to go so well. Even when Angel and Cordelia had tried to ruin their evening. It had only made it that much more special because of the friends that they had had fighting for them as well.
Tara pulled out another picture. One that made her smile. It was one of her, Willow, and Faith. It was a great comfort to know that someone was out there watching out for her everything. She knew that as long as Faith were around, she really had nothing to worry about. And that she would know if anything had happened.
Willow played the messages again. She had to smile at the one that Faith left. Ever the protector. Ever the one that knew her so well. And the one that would take care of her until the day that she died. At least one person would always be there for her. She needed that more and more. After all, prison was just around the corner for her.
Why? Tara sighed heavily at the thought. She knew that Willow had done nothing wrong. Why was it the innocent in life were the ones that were punished? Yet those that were guilty, especially celebrities, went free. It just didn't seem fair that her girl was the one that had to be the one that took the punishment.
Innocent. It was a big word. But what did it really mean? Willow couldn't help but wonder about that. With so many times having watched someone that was almost truly guilty get off scot free, what did it mean? Was it that you were one of the lucky ones that had a good lawyer to get you free? Was that it?
Tara closed her eyes as she laid back down on her pillow. Though she loved to look at the pictures, they also made her quite sad. And they made her quite homesick as well. Homesick for the woman that she loved more then life itself. Anyone would be a fool not to love her as much as she did. Willow was just that kind of person.
Willow closed her eyes. Tears fell from her eyes and down her cheeks as she pictured her. The one that she had loved so much. Had invested everything in. And now, she was alone. Why had she trusted her with everything? If she had held back, she wouldn't be in so much pain. Why had she let go?
The blond sighed. It was an amazing feeling trusting someone so completely. She knew that not many people found that in life. Sure, they found someone they could love. And someone that would love them. But trust? It was a big thing. It was what made a relationship work. That and honesty. And without either, you had nothing. Nothing at all.
The redhead sighed heavily. Trust. It was so hard to gain. But so easy to shatter. In a few words spoken, or in this case written, trust was just blown to bits. And in its place was questions. Mistrust. Wonder. All those things that were not good for a relationship. The things that she never thought would be in her relationship.
Tara slowly got out of bed and looked up at the full moon again. She wondered if Willow was looking up at the same time as her. Seeing the same bright roundness that made you wonder. Made you wonder about life. Made you wonder about how things worked? But one thing she would never wonder about, that was her love for Willow.
Willow dragged herself out of bed and saw the full moon shining so brightly. So brightly that it hurt. It was as if it were mocking her with its brightness. That it was happy and she was not. That she may never be happy again. Would she ever be happy again?
Tara reached up to the moon. Willow reached up to the moon. It felt as if it were so close that one could touch it. Tara felt warmth and happiness. Willow felt cold and loneliness. Tara felt like anything was possible. Willow felt like the world was ending. Tara felt excited to be going home. Willow didn't know if she could ever go home again.
Two women so in love with one another. So far apart. And not just physically. The two were so far apart that it would take a miracle for them to get back together. That's what happens when things go wrong in life. But there is that saying as well. Everything happens for a reason. Could there be a reason these two were still apart? And would them being apart make them stronger? Only time would tell.
