Gerard was bored. That was the tall and short of it. He had nothing to do. The next concert wasn't for another two weeks; there were no CD signings, interviews or photo shoots. He was bored. He loved the excitement and the adrenaline rush he got from being swamped with stuff to do and he wasn't tired enough to sleep. The rest of the guys were asleep in the allocated hotel rooms, feeling the benefits of being able to sleep in their own room and not on a tour bus for once in two years.
Gerard sighed and flopped down onto the two seated sofa and picked up the TV remote. Something he hadn't done for God knows how long and the hotel manager was kind enough to give each of them digital in their own rooms. So Gerard pressed the 'Menu' button on the NTL box. English television, he decided, was confusing. He felt like listening to some new music. Something he hadn't done since they started the band back in 2002. So he pressed the 'down' button until he reached 'Music'.
Scuzz. 'Interesting,' he thought to himself, 'sounds like a rock channel', so he pressed 'ok' on the remote and Hey Presto he was watching himself on TV. Gerard almost laughed out loud at the irony of it. 'Famous Last Words' was being played to him, just when he wanted to watch new music. 'Well' he reasoned 'I suppose it is new' about a minute later the song finished and some soft piano filled the room, 'Surround sound' he thought 'cool'. At this point some haunting female vocals filled the room as well, Gerard smiled, 'Wow, this woman's voice is great'
"Lithium- don't wanna lock me up inside
Lithium - don't wanna forget how it feels without
Lithium - I wanna stay in love with my sorrow
Oh, but god, I wanna let it go"

Guitars suddenly became part of the music as they blended perfectly with this woman's voice, whom, Gerard decided, was fairly stunning herself,
"Come to bed don't make me sleep alone
Couldn't hide the emptiness, you let it show
Never wanted it to be cold
Just didn't drink enough to say you love me
I can't hold on to me
Wonder what's wrong with me"

The chorus kicked back in and Gerard was stunned, so this was what music had for him today, well by God he was happy with it. Whoever this was, and he forgot to check at the beginning of the song, was amazing, then the next verse came back and it was louder this time, strange arrangement, but it worked,
"Oh, don't wanna let it lay me down this time
Drown my will to fly
Here in the darkness I know myself
Can't break free until I let it go
Let me go"

The woman looked desperate and sounded so in her voice, Gerard mentally applauded her and continued watching her, she was underwater a second ago, now she was walking towards a lake,
"Darling I forgive you after all
Anything is better than to be alone
And in the end, I guess I had to fall
Always find my place among the ashes
I can't hold on to me
Wonder what's wrong with me"

She was sinking now, probably a metaphor for something, although Gerard was currently finding it hard to think of anything but the music that was being played to him, and how the video had the camera flicking from all different scenes.
"I'm gonna let it go"
Those were words that the song finished on. Gerard immediately turned off the TV, not wanting to forget those haunting lyrics and the gorgeous voice that sang them. And with that he walked down to the main desk and asked where the nearest computer with internet was. The guy at the desk pointed him in the direction of the in-hotel internet Café and Gerard was hoping they would allow video's to be shown on there.
Gerard sat down and clicked on the internet, the page immediately loaded to 'Google', 'Perfect' Gerard thought smiling, 'Okay now what was that video's name, she was singing about lithium a lot so let's go with that' and so he typed in the word 'Lithium music video' and searched it. He scrolled as he scanned the found pages, seeing a lot of Nirvana, and Gerard knew enough about music to know that that song wasn't Nirvana, then his eye's stopped on something different, near the top of the list of pages that his eyes must have passed over, 'Rolling Stone: Lithium: Music Videos' and he clicked on the link.
The woman in the image that appeared looked like the one from the video so he decided to look at the other videos, there were seven under there name:
'Lithium' (Yup he knew that one)
'Call Me When You're Sober'
'Everybody's Fool'
'Broken (Seether feat. Amy Lee)'
(That must be the woman's name)
'My Immortal'
'Going Under'
'Bring Me To Life'
(He was sure he had heard of that before)
He thought for a second before clicking on 'Call Me When You're Sober' as it sounded interesting and he liked song name that sounded interesting. Without warning a hand appeared on his shoulder and he jumped nearly three feet into the air,
"Calm it, Love" Frank chuckled as he brought a chair up next to Gerard's to see what he was up to,
"I thought you were asleep"
"I thought you were too" Frank countered and Gerard smiled slightly, he always enjoyed his and Frank's verbal battles, "What are you doing anyway, who's 'Evanescence'" The diminutive guitarist asked, gesturing to the screen,
"This band I heard on TV, sounded good" Gerard said absentmindedly waiting for the video to load,
"Cool let's have a look see then" Frank said, resting his head atop his fist while his elbow rested on the desk,
"Oh, it's loaded" Gerard exclaimed,
"No duh, it's playing and she's hot!" Frank exclaimed back, moving ever so much closer to the screen,
"You have a girlfriend dimwit" Gerard countered,
"Yer you just want the hot woman to yourself"
"Shh, I am trying to listen" Frank shrugged and he too listened to the song. By the end they were both excited about this new band that they had found and Frank jumped up from his seat, "Oh oh oh oh!" He said, as fast as possible until Gerard eventually pulled him down to his seat again,
"What Frank?" Gerard asked, gripping hold of his guitarist's shirt,
"I know where I've heard their name from!" He exclaimed excitedly, in a sing-song voice,
"Where?" Gerard asked impatiently,
"We're playing live on the same day as them at the Kroq Almost Acoustic Christmas"
Gerard's jaw practically fell of his face.
