Chapter 2
They were in LA and it was a week away from the big concert. Gerard had asked around a couple of days ago and found out that Evanescence would be playing before them but still during the evening and in between would be The Raconteurs and Foo Fighters. It was a good set and Gerard was happy as this meant that he could watch Evanescence and still be able to relax and prepare himself for the concert.
"Hey, dude" Bob exclaimed, catching Gerard's attention, before he was too far into his imagination,
"What?" Gerard asked,
"I've never seen you so happy to be playing Kroq" The blonde drummer said simply, and Gerard knew him enough to know that he was asking why this was,
"Well, there's a lot of good bands playing today" Gerard said, absentmindedly fiddling with whatever he could find around him, he was nervous about this concert, for some reason he felt the need to impress this 'Amy Lee' and he had heard that she liked to watch the other bands play whenever she done festivals,
"Naw, That not the only reason, most of these band's we've played with before" Bob exclaimed, confusion written over his face as he adjusted the skins on his drum set, "Now, who's playing that we've never played with before" he said, sitting up to think about the list of bands, "Well there's The Raconteurs, is it them?"
"No, I like 'em, but I can get bored of them" Gerard said, now fiddling with his iPod. Bob had a idea,
"Hey let us have a look at that" he asked and Gerard sighed, handing it over, knowing Bob would be able to work it out soon as he looked through the play lists, "My God you listen to a lot of crap , I mean seriously... t.A.T.u? Gerard I'm... whoa hold up, this is new... Evanescence, they're playing a couple of bands before us aren't they?" Bob looked up form the iPod to see Gerard nodding yet fiddling with his thumbs at the same time, picking at the almost non-existent fingernail that should have been there, "That's them isn't it?"
"Well.... Yer... They're a good band" Gerard said his fingers still of high interest for him,
"Nah, that's not the only reason" Bob said certainly, putting a headphone in his right ear, "Let's have a listen shall we" he said pressing play on the song 'Going Under', after about a minute he said, "Hmm sounds good and I wonder what this GIRL looks like eh?"
Gerard simply smiled and didn't say anything.
1 week later
It was the day. The day Gerard had been both looking forward to and dreading ever since he first found out about Evanescence playing as well. He was going to be able to watch the woman with the heavenly voice sing live, but she was going to be able to watch him as well and that scared him for some reason. What if she completely hated his music?
Gerard took a couple of deep breaths to calm his nerves and sat back to watch his band mates fiddling with their instruments in preparation for the show tonight, all of sudden Bob was in his line of view,
"Come on" he said and Gerard furrowed his brow in confusion,
"What the hell are talking about?" He said as Bob grabbed his arm, pulling him of the sofa he was sat on, it was then that he realized the rest of the band were getting up,
"We're going to watch Evanescence, or did you not realize they were playing now?" Frank said putting his guitar to the side and almost running out of the door,
"Wow, he's nearly more excited than you" Ray commented as he watched Gerard's face lighten up at the word 'Evanescence' and he chuckled while he said, "so come on Lover boy" which earned him a slap round the arm from Gerard, the other three laughed at Gerard's embarrassment while Ray rubbed his arm,
"Let's go guys" Gerard said, being the first to reach the side of the stage where Evanescence were getting ready to perform to the large crowd. His eye's scanned the stage but he couldn't see Amy anywhere, so he waited patiently as what he guessed were the band before them, seeing as someone was finishing singing... It wasn't Amy.
The first band were finished and he still couldn't see Evanescence anywhere, until he heard some opening guitars and then her voice... the stage was spinning around and then he could see her at the front,
"It's true
We're all a little insane
But it's so clear
Now that I'm chained"
Frank nudged Gerard in ribs and pointed at Amy,
"She's even hotter in person" he whispered as Gerard stood mesmerized, watching her every move and Frank chuckled to himself as he guessed that Gerard liked this woman quite a bit,
"Huh?" Gerard said, his eyes not leaving the woman as she moved around the stage gracefully but with some unknown force, "Yeah, hot" He decided he would reply to Frank's comment, even if his reply was somewhat distracted. He had decided she was absolutely gorgeous and her voice was superb live, she had made herself sound angry yet beautiful at the same time.
The first song finished as the crowd applauded and then she spoke, the first time Gerard had actually heard her speak normally,
"Thank you" She said, "thank you guys very much. It's great to be here...You guys awake!" She exclaimed into the microphone, Gerard laughed as the guitars started up, the guys in the band being brilliant musicians. Her voice, when she talked, sounded kind of croaky, maybe she had a throat infection, if so she was even more brilliant for being able to sound this good even though her throat was sore. She moved around so majestically, becoming one with the music.
Gerard decided that he preferred this song more than the last one, especially after her amazing operatic piece near the end. At the end she spoke again, however before she started actually speaking she smiled in their direction; Gerard could have sworn his heart stopped beating for a second,
"Thank you very much" She laughed slightly when she saw that Gerard had finally decided to smile back, "It's great to be here, playing with a lot bands we've never played with before..." She nodded in their direction quickly and carried on, "I'm sure there are a lot of you here who don't know who we are" Someone must have shouted out something in the crowd because Amy turned around and said, "Oh yeah?" and laughed slightly, Gerard decided that he loved her laugh, "Um, I'm just wanna say it's a real honor to be here, I know our music is a lot different to a lot of the bands you guys are used to, so thanks for supporting us!" She turned towards her drummer and signaled something, "We'll play an old one see if you know it better!" and the guitars started,
Bob nudged Gerard in the ribs and said, "I know this one!" even though Gerard already knew this. Frank nudged Gerard in the ribs on his other side,
"Would you two, please leave my ribs alone?!" Gerard exclaimed rubbing either side of himself,
"Sorry, but did you see her smile at you?" Frank said excitedly,
"Oh come on, it wasn't just at me..."
"Then why were you the only one she was looking at?" he said in a matter-of-factly sort of way,
"You were probably imagining it!" Gerard exclaimed, trying to brush it off, yet inwardly hoping that Frank was right,
"I would love to know why I would be imagining a girl flirting with you" frank asked then thought back on his comment, "no matter how hot said girl is" He added after a moment of silence,
"Oh haha very funny....not!" Gerard said, looking back at Amy who was putting so much effort into the performance and still sounding great.
The concert was over much too quickly for Gerard's liking. After 8 amazing song and she had announced "Thank you guys so much" She smiled in Gerard's direction again, "We've got one more song for you guy, then it's on to the next...The Raconteurs right after us" The audience clapped, "And then, later on..." She made a little note with her voice and smiled in his direction again, he could have sworn she was doing this on purpose, "Later on the Foo Fighters everybody give it up for the Foo Fighters!" The audience clapped again, she laughed slightly and just simply looked at them all, "Then finally..." she started, "Finally My Chemical Romance! Give them a round of applause" She urged the crowd on, smiling wider in their direction, also clapping along with the crowd. This time Gerard did smile back in time and she waved at him, to which he was then stunned and went somewhat rigid. Frank, who wasn't rigid, looked at Amy who was waiting for some sort of response from Gerard, so he nudged him in the ribs and pointed at Amy and finally Gerard waved back. Amy laughed and said "Thank you" into the microphone before carrying on with the final song,
"Gerard... you okay dude?" Frank said, snapping his fingers in front of his vocalists face,
"Huh? What?" Gerard replied, obviously lost on some little fantasy world,
"I told you she liked you!" Frank said, feeling very pleased with himself,
"She waved at me" Gerard said, a smile was implanted on his face,
"Yer, and if it weren't for me she would've thought you hated her or something" Frank said laughing as Gerard once again was lost in watching Amy sing. After the first chorus Amy gave Gerard a little wave and thumbs up, this time Gerard did wave back and just when Frank thought the singer's smile couldn't get any bigger he proved him wrong.
The song was over all too quickly and his mind barely processed Amy saying "Thank you guys very much, enjoy the show, we'll see you soon!" and she smiled at Gerard again before taking a drink of water and walking off the stage.
Gerard was in awe. That was better than he thought it was going to be. She was practically flirting with him the whole way through and with this thought in his mind Gerard walked in the direction Amy did, knowing he wouldn't find her; he'd have to meet her after his show.
