Chapter 4
"I have some bad news..." the doctor said, pausing, trying to think of a way to tell the people who seemed to care an awful lot for this girl,
"Please, doctor, what's wrong with her?" Gerard, stepping slightly closer to the aging man, his voice was pleading and worried. The doctor sighed and handed Gerard some papers, realizing he couldn't tell them like this; they would have to be shown,
"Her test results are in there" he said quietly as Gerard opened the piece of paper, gasping in horror at the results,
"No" he whispered as everyone came around him, "Please, no, this can't be happening, there has to be some kind of mistake"
Kirsty took the paper from Gerard's hand, as no one had seen it yet, her eyes filled with tears, "Does she know?" she asked softly, her voice breaking, she hadn't known the woman for very long, but she knew how nice she was,
"No, she hasn't woken yet, would you like to see her?" Gerard was the first one to nod vigorously, and the doctor lead them to Amy's room, "She right in here" he said opening the door, the report lay discarded on the waiting room table, on it read:

Gerard was the first at her bedside; everybody looked on with tears on their eyes knowing that even though they had only known each other for a little while Gerard cared a lot for the angelic vocalist.
He had hold of her hand, afraid that if he let go she would disappear forever and he couldn't let that happen,
"Guys?" Kirsty spoke up after a moment of silence, "Guys... how are we gonna tell her?" she asked softly as she saw Gerard focus quickly return to Amy, her breathing was constant and steady,
"I don't know," Gerard said, his voice cracking, "But we do have to, sooner rather than later so she can start taking AZT" his voice had dropped to a whisper as he wiped a stray hair from Amy's face,
"She's looks so pale" Bob commented as he watched Gerard's careful movements around her; Gerard sighed when his mind processed Bob's comment,
"She does" he replied, his comment was cut short however when Amy's hand began to twitch in his own, "She waking up" and she started coughing and Gerard let go of her hand as she brought it up to her face. She moaned as her eyes her flew open and she tried to sit up, succeeding somewhat, with the aid of Gerard and a few pillows,
"Where am I?" she asked somewhat groggily as she tried to take in her surroundings, Gerard smiled at her and took her hand again when she smiled back at him,
"You're in the hospital" Terry said, the first time he had spoken since meeting everyone,
"You collapsed while we were walking and we had to bring you here" Gerard added once he realized that Terry didn't know exactly what had happened, he could see Amy trying to remember what had happened,
"You were there when I fell" she stated, looking squarely at Gerard, "You caught me...thank you" she said softly, her crystal blue eyes sparkling, Gerard smiled at her, "Did the doctor find out why I collapsed?" she asked curiously, looking around the room. Everybody looked at each other, none of them knowing what to actually do or say, Frank piped up,
"Um, Mikey, can you go and get the report from the waiting room?" he asked, gesturing outside, knowing this would be easier if she were to find out for herself. Mikey scattered out of the room as fast as his legs would take him. Everyone waited patiently and Gerard still had hold of Amy's hand, though clutching it slightly tighter at the moment and Amy looked at him curiously, though he didn't realize as his eyes were shut tight, preventing the tears that were gathering to fall. Mikey came back quickly and gave the folded up piece of paper, which she took out of his trembling hands.
She unfolded it whilst never taking her eyes off the others in the room then looked at the paper. Her eyes scanned it several times, unable to process what she was reading, her hands was pressed against her mouth as tears welled up in her eyes. She chocked back a sob and dropped the paper, Gerard having already let go of her hand and she buried her face in her arms, her body shook with the force of her sobs and Gerard could feel his heart ache for her, so he put his arms around her shaking body to provide any sort of comfort at all. She accepted the embrace readily and held tightly to Gerard's suit as she tried to stem the flow of tears.
Gerard squeezed his eyes shut to keep the tears away while he held the crying woman close to his body and stroking her soft dark hair. The others watched on, all feeling so sorry for Amy. Frank knew that Gerard and Amy wanted to talk and so he ushered everyone else out of the small ward.
After a couple of minutes Amy's tried had eventually ceased, now she could process everything, her first words were,
"I'm going to die" she exclaimed slowly as she pulled away from the hug, Gerard sighed and lifted her head up so that she was looking at him in the eye,
"You are not going to die...not yet" Gerard said, certainty laced his voice and Amy look into his eyes and saw that he was telling the truth, "You are going to live life to the full, you can't give up now" he continued, not knowing whether or not to tell Amy his feelings for her,
"Thank you Gerard, for everything" Amy said quietly, her body felt exhausted from all of the crying,
"Anytime Amy, anytime" he replied, helping Amy to lay back down on the bed, he was about to leave when suddenly he felt her hand on his. He looked at her curiously,
"Please, don't leave me alone" She whimpered, searching his eyes for any sign of unhappiness with her request. He sighed and smiled,
"I would never dream of leaving you alone" He replied, lying down next to her on the bed. Amy smiled and curled into Gerard's body, his arms wrapped round her protectively and she sighed in contentment.
Gerard stroked her hair while she almost immediately fell back to sleep, he could feel her chest rising and falling against him and he knew she was sleeping. He looked at her peaceful face, noting how beautiful she was, even with Make-up running down her cheeks and her face flushed. He sighed, wishing he could tell her his true feelings as he fell asleep, Amy's face and voice haunting his dreams.
