A Soggy Town and a Sad Goodbye
2 reviewsPete and Leigh have gotten extremely close during their summer tour, but what happens when it all ends?
0Unrated
It was about to end; the most wonderful summer of Leigh's life. She had spent the last 2 months on the road with the boys traveling across the country, and now they had reached Seattle. Leigh was happy to be there because that's where she was born and grew up, but she was also heartbroken because tomorrow she would fly home to Baltimore to go back to school.
As the drove into the city, Leigh could see the afternoon sunlight of that warm August day bounce off every building in Seattle, including her favorite: The Space Needle. She had been up there tons of times in her life, but today was her first day seeing it in five years. As she sat with Patrick and Andy at the "kitchen" table of the bus staring out the window, she couldn't help but tear up a little.
"Are you okay, Leigh?" Patrick asked, concerned.
"What?" Leigh said with a start, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Oh yeah...just happy to see home again."
"Oh yeah, I forgot you're from here. So were you into that whole grunge thing with Nirvana and junk?" Joe said with a toothbrush hanging out of his mouth.
"Not really...I'm a little too young for that, I was into the Backstreet Boys actually," she said, sounding a little ashamed.
"Ha ha! What? That's HALARIOUS!" Joe laughed so hard that toothpaste shot out of his mouth.
"Nice dude...nice," laughed Andy. "Hey, where's Pete?"
"In here, doofus," Pete called from the bathroom.
Leigh giggled and whispered at Andy, "He's straightening his hair...he tries so hard to look prettier than me."
"I heard that." Leigh turned around to see Pete standing directly behind her. "And I don't think thats humanly possible," he said as a smile crept across his mouth, placing his hands on her shoulders and leaning down to kiss her on the head.
"Jeez, Pete...what happend to your balls?" laughed Joe.
"Yeah Pete, that was really gushy," giggled Leigh as she covered her hand with his and looked straight up at his face pearing down upon her. "But I still love ya. And you do look pretty today."
"Well, excuuuuseee me," Pete said sarcastically, pushing Leigh close to Patrick and sitting down next to her. "So, what do you wanna do today, Leigh? It's early and we dont have sound check until four."
"Yeah, show us about town," Patrick said. "Isn't that one museum here? The one that looks like the inside of an ear on the outside?"
"Oh yeah, EMP...Experience Music Project. That's an awesome place. You'll eat that place up Patrick." Leigh looked over at Patrick and smiled.
"Alright," Pete said, clasping his hand with Leigh's. "Yo Dirty, take us to the EMP," he yelled up to the front where Dirty was behind the wheel.
"The E-M-what-the-fuck?" Dirty yelled over his shoulder.
"Use the GPS thingy, fuck face," Pete yelled back.
When Dirty decided to put the GPS in use, it took about 10 minutes until they arrived at the the museum. When they got inside there weren't that many people there because it was a Sunday during the mid-morning. They made their way through the exhibits and Patrick and Pete looked at almost every single object on display, from guitars that belonged to Elvis, Hendrix, and the Beatles to Louis Armstrong's trumpet.
"God, this place is amazing," Patrick said in awe, looking like he was a little kid on their first trip to Disneyland.
"Just wait, the best part is over here," said Leigh, taking Pete's hand and leading them into a room that looked like a gigantic studio. "This place is awesome, you can play all of these instruments and play it back and listen to it." Pete automatically ran to the bass and starting playing the intro to Dance, Dance. Leigh danced over to him. "It's probably not as fun for you guys, but its fun to us normal people," She whispered in his ear, putting her arms around his waist and hugging him close to her.
"What? No...it's buttloads of fun," he giggled.
Patrick was playing the keyboard and Andy was beating at the drums while Joe was pulling off some of his amazing riffs on the guitar. Leigh spotted the microphone booth and smiled.
"Leigh," Pete asked quizically, "Can you sing?"
"Um...yeah. I can a little," she twiddled her thumbs and looked down at the ground.
"What? And you never told me? Sing...now," Pete got behind her and pushed her over to the microphone booth.
"No! There are too many people waching...and I can't sing infront of you," she hissed at him.
"Why not? You can do everything else in front of me," he said, winking and nudging his body against hers.
"Peter!" Leigh feigned shock, but couldn't hold in her giggle. "I just can't...no. Not alone."
"What if," Pete grabbed Patrick, who was walking by, by the shirt and pulled him close to Leigh, "Patrick sang with you?"
"Huh? What's going on?" Patrick looked completely confused.
"APPARENTLY Leigh can sing, Trick," Pete said with a fake anger behind his voice crossing his arms. "And now she won't show me."
"I'll sing with you...what do you want to sing?" Patrick gave her a kind smile that made her extremely comfortable.
"Uh...um...Wine Red?" she asked cautiously.
"Perfect. Go." Pete smiled at her and clapped.
"Ok..." Leigh stepped up to the mic and started to sing. "Who shot that arrow in your throat, who missed the crimson apple. It hang heavy on the tree above your head. This chaos, this calamity, this garden once was perfect give your immortality to me, I'll set you up against the stars." Silence. She looked over at Patrick, who was looking back at Pete in awe. "Um, Patrick...that's you. Patrick?"
"Holy...fucking...God," Pete said very slowly. "Leigh that was amazing. What the hell? You can really fucking sing," he picked his jaw up off the floor and smiled bigger than Leigh had ever seen and went up and gave her a gigantic hug. "Baby, seriously...why did you keep that secret?"
"Um," She shrugged behind Pete's hug and looked at Patrick, who was nodding furiously. "I'm shy?"
"You shouldn't be," smiled Patrick. "That was really good. I can't follow that," he laughed as he jokingly stepped away.
"No get back here, finish the song." Pete let go of Leigh and stood behind them, listening to them sing together. By the time they were done, they had a small group of people around them who erupted into applause.
"Thank you," Leigh smiled, giving a little curtsy. "Thanks, but it's all him," she smiled at Patrick.
"I beg to differ," Patrick said, hugging Leigh. "So seriously...next album you're on it."
"What? Oh God, no. Not gonna do it," she smiled and did her impression of Dana Carvey doing George Bush, Sr., "Not gonna do it...not gonna do it."
As they left the EMP and headed for the bus, Pete walked up behind Leigh and hugged her, whipsering in her ear. "So you know i'm gonna make you sing for me all the time now, right?" He pecked a couple of kisses on her neck. Leigh stopped, turned around and looked into his eyes.
"I guess I can...over the phone." A frown automatically replaced Pete's goofy smile. "Since i'm leaving tomorrow," she whispered, looking down at the floor while running her hands up and down Pete's arms.
"I can't believe this...Can't you like...transfer here?" He asked hopefully, putting his hand under Leigh's chin and lifting it up so she could see his puppy dog eyes.
"Not this late in the game, Pete. I have to finish my degree there." She could see that Pete's heart was breaking, so she drew him in for a long hug. "Let's just enjoy tonight," she said with her cheek pressed against Pete's chest, rubbing his back with her hands. "And we'll worry about the future tomorrow."
"Hey guys, let's um...stop moping maybe and get over to the venue," said Joe in an oh-so-Trohman way.
"Yeah...good idea," Leigh said quietly, taking Pete's hand and climbing aboard the bus.
Pete tried to be happy the rest of the afternoon. He joked with the guys and Leigh, but Patrick could tell that Leigh's imminent departure was getting to him.
"Dude, Thanksgiving is just a few months away. She'll have like a week off. You can see eachother then. Plus she told me she only has class 3 days this semester so she can come see you on long weekends. It'll be cool," he said reassuringly.
"Yeah, I know," said Pete, plopping down on the couch. "I'm just so used to having her with me, I don't think i'll be able to sleep alone."
"You can always spoon with me," Patrick laughed, sitting down and putting his head on Pete's shoulder, looking up at him and batting his eyes. "I know i'm not as pretty, but I can give you pllleaaaassuuureee."
Pete burst into laughter as Leigh walked in. "What is this now, boys? Am I already replaced?" she gasped, putting her hands on her hips.
"You know it!" giggled Patrick.
"Really? WELL THEN!" Leigh jumped ontop of the boys and started to tickle them like crazy. Pete fell to one side of the couch and Patrick fell to another. "Yeah, take it all bitches!" she laughed as she crawled ontop of Pete, stratling his hips. She tried to tickle him some more but his hands grabbed her wrist and he was now in control. "OoOoOoO, kinky," Leigh smirked, looking down at him with a sultry gaze. Patrick was now sitting at the other end of the couch, alone.
"Well this is awkward, I'm gonna go...Give you love birds some alone time" he said, getting up and walking out.
"Yeah sure dude, whatever," Pete said blankly, still staring up at Leigh. "I love you, Leigh." He pulled her down into a deep kiss, putting his arms around her waist and pulling her body as close to his as possible.
"I love you, too, Pete," Leigh said against his lips, moaning slightly with the pleasure she felt against her jeans. "Did Patrick close the door?"
Pete looked over at the door after parting his lips from hers. "Yup," he said quickly before going back to making out with Leigh.
"God I'm going to miss this," Leigh said as she made her way to his neck, kissing almost every bit of skin she could see.
"Yeah...me too. But Patrick reminded me that...Oh God that feels good," he arched his back so his body was pressed even more against hers.
"Reminded you that what?" Leigh asked, now back to kissing down his cheek before making her way to his lips again. Her body was rocking against hers as his hands explored the small of her back.
"What? Oh...That um," Pete was so overcome with pleasure that he had completely forgotten what he was talking about, "I um...Gooood," he moaned.
"You um God?" Leigh laughed, pulling away from his face and looking into his hazel eyes. "Really now?" She caressed his neck with one hand while pulling her hair behind her neck with the other so he could explore her neck.
"No," he said, pecking her neck. "He said that you," kiss, "only have school," kiss, "3 days a week. So we can," kiss, "See eachother alot."
Leigh sat up and put her hands on his chest for balance. "If you're willing to fly out to see me, and fly me out to see you. Because you know I have like...no money." He nodded quickly, sitting himself up before laying down again, this time with him ontop of her.
"Oh God, Pete..." Leigh moaned against his lips. Just then they heard the door start to open. Pete quickly sat up, pulling Leigh up with him. Andy smiled at them.
"Hey guys," he said shyly, "Pete we have to go on like...now." Pete gave Liegh a quick peck before getting up, looking in the mirror (Leigh's hands had been in his hair) and leaving the room with Andy. "Come watch, babe," he called back to Leigh. Leigh got up and ran to catch up with them. She stood on the side and watched the boys perform.
Pete stepped up to the mic. "Hey Seattle! What the fuck's up?" The crowd responded with shrieks, yells, and applause. "We are so fucking excited to be here. This city is awesome. My girlfriend is from here," he paused because of all the girl's moans, "ANYHOODLE, she took us to that EMP today. Awesome. This is our last show of this tour and we're gonna rock your guy's faces off." And that they did.
An hour later they got off the stage and Pete went right for Leigh, because he knew how much she loved hugging his sweat-drenched body. But this night she actually embraced him and didn't cringe or make any goofy comments.
"Good job, baby," she whispered in his ear and patted his ass.
"Thanks. Hey I have something special planned for tonight. I'm gonna go shower and I'll meet you by the limo in like...20 minutes?" He kissed her nose and started walking down the hall. "Oh..almost forgot. There's something for you to wear in the dressing room."
"What? Where are we going?" Leigh asked.
"You'll find out...just go put it on." A huge smile appeared on his face; Pete loved suprises.
Leigh walked into the dressing room and saw a beautiful black cocktail dress. She put it on and was looking at herself in the mirror when there came a knock on the door. It was Patrick.
"Wow...you look amazing," he looked her up and down.
"Thanks...what the hell is Pete planning?" she asked, blushing from Patrick's previous comment.
"See if I told you that, he would kill me...or at least cut something off," he looked down and laughed. "So I think i'm gonna keep my lips sealed on this one."
"Fine...be that way," she said as she walked passed him in a fake huff.
"Ha ha ha...seriously have fun tonight." She looked back at him and smiled.
"I will."
When she got to the limo, Pete was waiting with the door open. He had a pair of dark washed jeans, white and grey pin-stripped dress top, and a black jacket on.
"God you look gorgeous," Leigh said as she walked up to him, putting her hand on his neck and kissing him.
"You stole the words right out of my mouth. You look...wow." He grabbed her hand and stepped back to get a look at her. "God I have good taste." he smirked.
"That you do...I look hot," Leigh giggled.
"Too true..now get that sexy ass in the car." Leigh climbed into the car and sat down. Pete soon followed and sat down right next to her. She put her hand on his knee and he still got a shiver down his spine. She still had that effect on him. She looked up at him and gave him a sexy pout, leaning in very close to him so he could look right down her dress.
"Where are we goin?" she asked, rubbing his thigh.
"Nu uh...nope. You'll ruin the suprise." She pouted, this time out of dissapointment, and sat back. "You wouldn't look at presents before Christmas, would you?" He grabbed her hand and smiled at her.
"No...I guess not," she said like a child who had just been told she couldn't have a cookie.
A couple of minutes later the limo stopped and Leigh knew where she was. They were at the Space Needle.
"I remember you telling me you loved it here, and we didn't get a chance to see it today so I thought we'de have a romantic late night dinner here." He smiled.
"Oh Pete, this is so sweet. I love you!" She gave him a long, soft, sensual kiss before they got out of the limo and made their way to the elevator.
"Good evening, Mr. Wentz," said the elevator attendant.
"Good evening...hey thanks for doing this. It means a lot to us," Pete said sincerely.
"No problem, sir."
When they reached the top, they got out and automatically went out on the observation deck. It was a beautiful night in Seattle. The stars were out and you could see for miles, but it was a little chilly up there so Leigh started to shiver. Pete took off his jacket and put it around Leigh's shoulders, holding her close to him.
"It's really beautiful up here...more than I remember," Leigh said, gazing out onto the city.
"Yeah," Pete said staring at Leigh,"beautiful."
They stayed up there for a couple more minutes before going in and enjoying a wonderful dinner. By the time they got back to the hotel, the rest of the boys were asleep so Pete and Leigh made their way to their room were they spent their last night doing everything but sleeping.
That morning the light slipped through the window, waking Leigh up. She couldn't help singing a little bit of "Don't Wake Me Up" which, in turn, woke Pete up.
"That was nice to wake up to", he yawned, stretching before putting his arms around Leigh.
"I have to leave soon, Pete," she frowned, curling up against his naked body. The sheet was only covering his lower body, so Leigh couldn't help but trace his Bartskull tattoo as they lay there.
"You know what that does to me, Leigh" He said coyly.
"Yes..." she looked up at him with a sexy gaze, "Yes I do." Pete grabbed her, turned her over onto her back and climbed ontop of her. "I want you to make love to me once more before I go," she said, holding back tears.
"Anything you want," he said as he leaned in to kiss her passionately. They made love for the next hour until it was time for Leigh to get ready to leave.
After she was all packed and ready to go the two of them headed to the airport. Pete was boarding a plane to L.A. and Leigh was going to Baltimore, so they both got to go through security. Pete walked Leigh to her gate.
"My plane leaves in 10 minutes, I better go," she said, gazing at Pete, whose eyes were welling up with tears. He nodded and pulled her close.
"I just want to tell you," he whiped his eyes with one hand while the other still embraced Leigh, "that you've made me so happy these past two months. I can't remember ever being this happy. I love you so much."
Leigh was sobbing quietly as he embraced her. "I love you, too. I'll call you as soon as I land. And we'll talk every day," she pulled away from Pete, "right?"
Pete nodded and bit his lip, trying to keep from whimpering. He kissed her softly and gave her once last hug. "Every day..now you better go." She kissed his nose, winked, and walked to the gate. In a few seconds she was gone.
Pete's flight didn't leave for another hour so he sat and watched her fly away.
"Miss you," he said as her plane flew off.
"Miss you," Leigh whispered at the window as she took off.
"What dear?" the old woman next to her asked.
"Oh nothing...nothing." She smiled to herself and sat back. I'll see him soon she thought.
As the drove into the city, Leigh could see the afternoon sunlight of that warm August day bounce off every building in Seattle, including her favorite: The Space Needle. "Ha ha! What? That's HALARIOUS!" Joe laughed so hard that toothpaste shot out of his mouth.
