I had had enough. No more of people telling me what I could and couldn't do. I was going to start making my own decisions.
Even rehab had taken its toll on me. I was never going to be the same person I had been before. I had become a slave to rules and regulations, and a servant of the pain of my own addictions. Sure, the physical effects wore off with time. But I was different on the inside.
It's been about...two and a half years, I believe, since I gave up alcohol. It's probably just as well, too. No sense in dying early when all I've preached is about living.
Mikey was the one who really saw me through it. There were so many times when I was on the verge of giving up, and every time he would help me get through it. There were two incidents where I contemplated killing myself.
There was one where I tried to do it.

"You've got to promise me that you'll never do anything like this again."
"I've made too many promises. I don't think I'll be able to keep any of them." Mikey looked at me with pleading eyes.
"You've got to." I sighed.
"I promise I'll try."
