Fast forward to 6 months later. Me and Pete started to hang out at a ridiculous rate. He was pretty much my best friend from then on. Most of our spare time was spent together. I got to know his family pretty well, and he mine, since we alternated between living at each other's house. He picked me up at work at the local café, and I picked him up after soccer. Man, I loved watching him run. Literally, he was my ideal picture of man at that point in life. Great looking, a bit of a goof, and talented in both creative and athletic things. I had the biggest crush on him.
One day we were sitting in his basement. I was flipping through some magazine, he was practicing bass by playing along to some Slayer music playing in his stereo. It was some girly magazine, and I finally glanced at a quiz page. The title of this quiz was 'Does Your Crush Feel The Same Way About You?'. I chewed my lower lip as I looked over at Pete, hunched over his bass. Somehow I got the idea into my head that I was going to ask him.
"Petey," I crooned, scooting closer to his end of the couch. He glanced over at me with a small smile, before returning his gaze to the fretboard and answering me. "Whaaaat?" he asked, smirking slightly.
"I have a question," I announced, then after a moment's thought, I frowned. "No, wait. A statement." He nodded, meaning he was listening. I took a deep breath before confessing to him.
"Peteilikeyou," I said, sounding like I said a South African town name instead of what I meant. He giggled. "What?" he questioned, setting down the bass and turning towards me with an expectant smile. I cursed myself mentally before repeating. "Pete. I. Like. You." I swallowed hard, waiting for his answer.
[Pete's POV]
I couldn't believe it. Possibly the cutest girl I knew was telling me she liked me. My heart flew up into my throat, and I could barely form my words. At first I just smiled, then stood up. I walked to the small window, set at the base of the house and gave me a view of our backyard lawn. Everything was clean and green and wet, I remember that even now. "Roxx," I began, staring out the window. "How long has this been going on for?" I managed to choke out. I hoped to God it wasn't a passing fancy, like a flavor-of-the-week type of thing. A moment of silence, and then I heard her speak. "A few months," she admitted. I smiled to myself. It was even longer for me. Like, I knew she was attractive when I met her. But her personality. That's what gets me. She's so cool and sweet and intelligent. I don't know what she saw in me, but I knew she wasn't shallow. Anyways, I didn't argue or shoot her down. I walked back to her quickly, placing either hand beside her, before leaning in to kiss her. My first real, means-something type kiss. I held it for a moment, before breaking away and sitting down beside her, closer than before. "I liked you for way longer than that," I told her, grinning. She smiled, that slow smile I liked especially on her, and I grabbed her hand. "I'm serious about this, Roxx. I don't just want to see you tomorrow and have forgotten all about it." She nodded. "Same, Pete. No stupid high school games. So...are we gonna try being more than friends?" she asked tentatively, chewing her lower lip in that adorable way she always did when she was nervous. I nodded. "I'd like that," I told her, and planted another kiss on her lips, firm and more open than before. Open as in free, uninhibited. It felt right at that moment. [/Pete's POV]
He kissed me again. I kissed him back, shutting my eyes and enjoying it. He seemed to be much more experienced than me in kissing, because before I knew it, we both had our mouths open and his tongue was slowly probing mine, massaging it even. I leaned back, slowly falling onto my back, with Pete still on top of me. He broke it before it got too intense, and we both lay there quit for a few moments. Pete's head rested on my chest, eyes shut. My fingers stroked his scalp, digging through his thick black hair and combing it away from his face.
"I hear your heartbeat," he told me quietly. I smiled. "You do realize your parents are upstairs, right?" I asked, smirking. He practically flew off of me, chastely resting his hand on my knee as I straightened up to a sitting position again.
