To a friend:
You know what today is. It is April 12, 2007. You passed away 4 years ago today at the hands of a drug addict. It's been so long, but it feels like it was yesterday. I remember being on my way to the store. I heard the sirens, but just blew it off. 'Some idiot wrecked his car and now I have to take the long way. Great. I'm going to be late for that birthday party now. I didn't know it was you. Hit head on by a driver who was too high on her drugs to realize that she had even struck another car, killing one passenger and injuring another so badly she was in a wheelchair. A junkie who was given a reduced sentence after tearing a family apart from the loss of their son. 4 years ago. And all your friends remember your smile, and your laugh. Everyone else remembers you as a single white cross along a stretch of highway in the country. You didn't have to die. You never had to leave.
Love,
That girl from history
