The weekend seemed to dwindle away much to fast for Pete's liking. He knew come Sunday he would have to send Cadence back to the place and to the person that was hurting her. After her break down on Friday night, he had just focused on calming her down and then on Saturday he pretty much got most of the story of what and who had been hurting her.

There hadn't really been any sex that weekend. The closest to seeing each other naked was when they had gotten in the shower together. Only now Pete looked at her differently. He didn't look at her as someone he just wanted to have sex with him. He let his eyes wander over every piece of her body as he counted bruises and scars and wounds. It made his stomach turn at the thought of what he was doing to her. He knew he had never exactly treated her kindly, but you should never put your hands on a woman.

He had thought of almost a million reasons and explanations to give his mother about the girl who was staying in his bedroom, but none of them seemed like they would fly. And, then she would want the real truth and well, Pete wasn't sure if he was ready to give up Cadence's secrets like that just yet. He was just wondering how he had found out but Patrick knew nothing. He didn't think Patrick would just let this go on. Shaking his head, he pushed the thoughts out of his mind as he wrapped his arm around Cadence's waist.

The two had been watching a movie on Sunday night when she had fallen asleep. Pete didn't want to wake her, so he just laid next to her and watched her sleep while he was lost in his thoughts.

Stretching, Cadence smiled as she looked up at Pete. "Hey, you." She said, her voice was hoarse just because she was asleep.

"Hey." He smiled as he looked down at her. For the first time that weekend he had seen something in her that he hadn't seen. He was almost in love with the fact that she was a girl who was weak, she needed him. She wasn't going to hurt him. He had been hurt a lot, so he just decided that girls were only good to have around to sleep with. But, she wasn't a cold person. She wouldn't hurt him. She had been hurt herself. Maybe they would be the perfect match.

"I'm sorry, I fell asleep." She apologized as she turned into him and looked up at him. Ever since he found out about what was happening to her, he had been so loving and his whole touch changed. Clearing out her throat she closed her eyes once again as she breathed in his scent. "I don't want to go home tonight."

"You know, if we tell my Mom she can get you help. You're only seventeen. You can-" He was cut off almost immediately.

"They'll put me in a foster home or whatever, move me out of Chicago, you'd never see me again. Do you want to ever see me again?" She looked up at him with wide eyes.

"No, no of course not." Pete shook his head. He figured she had tried this outlet already with no such luck. Maybe she had been looking for a way out all along. "Why don't you just leave?" He asked. Cadence looked up at him confused, was he kicking her out? "No, no. Not leave my house, I mean leave your Uncle."

Cadence looked up at him. "When I turn eighteen I get 500,000 dollars from my Father's estate. It's my college and future money. I can't just walk away from that. Plus, my Uncle loves me, he does." She nodded as she rubbed her face. "I should get going." She suddenly felt the need to get out of there. She needed to leave Pete right now.

"We still have time." Pete said as he sat up and looked at her the sheet falling from his chest and onto the bed.

"I should really get going, he's probably going to be pretty angry as it is..." She trailed off as she grabbed her hoodie and slipped it on. "Thank you for an amazing weekend, Pete." She smiled as she leaned over and kissed him. "I owe you."

Pete shook his head. "You don't owe me anything, really." He told her as he reached out and grabbed her hand. "Kiss me again." He whispered as he leaned up and pressed his lips against hers. "Call me when you get home? Let me know you're okay..." He trailed off. There was literally a knot forming in the pit of his stomach knowing that she was leaving.

"I'll call you when I can." She nodded as she let go of his hand as she grabbed her bag and slipped on her flip flops. "Promise."

"Cadence?" He called as she was about half way out the door.

"Yeah, Pete?" She turned to look at him. It was getting harder and harder every time she looked at him. She was really starting to fall for him.

"Come to band practice with me tomorrow, please?" He gave her a smile as her face seemed to light up.

"I'll be there. What time?" She asked as she took in a deep breath. He was finally accepting her as one of those girls. The ones who got to sit on the couch and watch the man she cared for play music he loved.

"I'll pick you up at five." He told her as he got out of bed, walked over to her and kissed her again. "Bye Cadence."

"Bye Pete..." She trailed off as she left the house and headed back towards her own. She felt so much relief yet so much confusion. There had to be something that was going to set her Uncle off and the picture perfect weekend was going to go down the drain.
